Thanks to Victory and others for experimenting with recipes. This one smelled and tasted of strong pine and grapefruit. Pours a light copper. Unfortunately, one sip was all I could stand. Try it for yourself, though. Wouldn't mind trying dirt wolf, but, as an average beer guy, I hesitate to support 4-packs. No need to turn craft beer into a rich man's game.

Bottle tells me I Should enjoy this by May 24th 2015.

Tastes and smells like stale old hops. Dirty sock aroma and this beer is hard to drink.

Definitely wasted my money on this one. AVOID!

OMG, the smell is downright nasty. Dang! What happened? Bitter right up front, oddish grapefruit rind, touch unripe tasting. Not impressed. I expect more from Victory, especially from an Imperial IPA. I'm really puzzled with all of the good reviews. Maybe I just got a bad one. It's not a date issue.

Got this one deeply discounted at a grocery store in NYC ($5.99 for a 4 pack).

BOTTLE: 12 fl oz. Brown glass. Branded blue and red pry-off cap.

"Imperial India Pale Ale." 9.0% ABV.

APPEARANCE: Murky pale copper body of average to above average vibrance. Seems filtered but it does have some chill haze (or maybe just oat starch?). No floating yeast/lees. Head is white and frothy, sticking around for an impressive ~7 minutes (not too shabby for a 9% ABV brew).

AROMA: Hints of berries/currants. Tropical fruit - the Azacca talking. Floral hop aromatics. I don't find the distinct blueberry aroma typical of Mosaic-hopped beers, nor do I find pungent citrus typical of Citra hops. But Chinook and Azacca are well utilized here.

Aromatic intensity is average. No off-notes, overt booze, or yeast.

TASTE & TEXTURE: Has some rind-like bitterness and white grapefruit pith, along with some quinine-like bitterness. Pale malts are present but can't withstand the hop assault, leaving the drinker with an imbalanced bitter beer that tastes overhopped and a bit boozy. I'm usually keen on Victory's hoppy ales, but this one is a miss for me.

No blueberry from the Mosaic, but then it's just dry hopped with Mosaic so that explains the berry being present only in aroma. Chinook contributes some nice floral notes, but the hop bitterness eclipses the hoppy flavours to its detriment.

Smooth, wet, unrefreshing, boozy, coating, full-bodied, well-carbonated. Not oily, gushed, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy. This texture doesn't elevate the beer as a whole or accentuate specific notes. Decent execution.

Not a gestalt harmonious whole of a brew, nor an ordered or cohesive one. Hop selection isn't ideal, they went too big on the ABV, and depth of flavour is lackluster. Average flavour duration and intensity.

OVERALL: Maybe I'm not having it fresh enough since I got this on sale, but based on this bottle it's pretty wanting stuff in an oversaturated style. I'll reserve judgement until I can have it on-draught and confirm it's not old, but as-is it's an Azacca-hopped boozy mess that is anything but approachable. The bitterness of it turns me off.

High D+ (2.50) / NOT RECOMMENDED

I don't know what was wrong for me with this one. Normally LOVE Mosaic, but this hit nothing pleasing in terms of smell, taste, feel, etc. Had to post a review for this to go through, no wonder the average pDev is so high.

I would avoid this one. Dirtwolf is way better.

I assume the Hops faded in this, but i drank it well within Victory's recommended BBD.
The one i drank was utterly disappointing.

Bottle that's best by 05.24.15, poured into a nonic pint glass.

A: Pours a golden straw color. A bit cloudy with a thin, filmy white head. Looks fine.

S: Smells like a pilsner mixed with lots of pine needles and caramel. Unpleasant.

T: Dominant flavors of artificial grapefruit juice, saccharine caramel malts, raw pine sap, and a touch of dish soap. Gross.

M: Creamy, a bit fizzy, and smooth. Really nice.

O: A real stinker. It's done in by its failed effort to play the artificial citrus bitterness against the overpowering caramel sweetness. Funny those two wrongs didn't make a right. Loved the mouthfeel, though.

Picked up a 4 [email protected] Specs.
A- Hazy gold with 1 finger off white head that faded fairly soon but left nice lacing.

S- Faint citrus overpowered by an onion scent. What causes this offensive dankness is beyond me.

T_Follows the nose. Big dose of hop goodness, quickly followed by oniony funk.

M-Decent carbonation and medium mouthfeel.

O-I was geeked when I purchased this beer, but it was just not that enjoyable. I've never had an IPA that had such a funky oniony taste and there are too many other great IPA's out there to ever seek this one out again. I typically like Victory, but this was a dud.for me.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy golden orange with a medium creamy white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is spicy floral oniony hops.

The flavor is a little sweet malt and a bunch of spicy floral oniony hops. The mouthfeel is medium to fill bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, not my kind of hop profile.
