Wow what a great looking beer. Gold as any beer you're likely to see. 1/4 finger head of foam rising from a gentle pour into a tulip glass from a 12 ounce bottle. Head dissipates within 30 seconds and forms a ring around the perimeter of the glass. Really a spectacular looking beer.

On the nose I'm getting white wine along with a nice blast of sour. Nice.

Like most things this beer tastes like it smells. Tastes like a medium to heavy white wine if there is such a thing. Sour at back palate. I find this to be a more approachable and drinkable beer than white monkey despite the similar abv and the grossly disparate price tag. $11 for a sixer locally? Holy cow!

Light in the mouth. Carbonation takes a long time to settle down which is not a problem. Not particularly a strength of this beer but not a problem either.

Very good. Something you can probably find in a super market, and also something that most folks are going to think nothing of, including people who otherwise know their beer. I have no idea why this brewery has become so underappreciated. Strongly recommend especially at the crazy price point.

It's been a while since I had the original Golden Monkey, which was easily the best trippel I have had to date. I thought it said soul monkey at first lol...

L: Love the can. Evokes a juicy impression. Poured into a sniffer, it has a perfectly clear golden body with two fingers of white head. It dissipates fairly quickly, as it is a sour, but a film across the surface lingers pretty well.

S: Definitely retained some Belgian qualities. Earthy straw notes struggle for a moment against vinegar sourness, but get drowned in under a second, after which apricot, peach, pomegranate, and sour cherry take a shot at that funky Brett, but get kicked down too. In the end, it settles down with some lemon, quince, white wine and sourdough bread.

T: It follows the nose almost perfectly, except that the doughy malt base is much more present here, and really helps balance the sourness. I like it. Very much like Lagunitas' Eroica...except lightly Belgian. Really light on the Belgian character though. Heavy on the sour.

F: Excellent. I remember thinking that I had no idea how strong that Golden Monkey was, and this is the same. Drinks like an ale you'd expect to be be closer to 6%. Substantial body, but it's just so smooth and has a nice crisp finish.

O: I really like it. This could be even better than the original. Hard to tell though. I'll need to try it again to compare.

Nabbed a bottle at a beer store in Austin, TX.

"Sour, [sic] Brettanomyces Tripel." 9.5% ABV.

Tangy and sour like a good gose. What strikes me here is how devilishly well disguised the alcohol is...this drinks like a 5% ABV beer. 2-row malt is evident, but I'm missing the Belgian character of a good tripel both in terms of yeast and malt. Lemon citrus twang sings in this beer, and there is some nice acidity as advertised on the label. But it's not funky and it does want for brettanomyces yeast(s) and microfloral intricacy as well as coriander and other Belgian spices.

Really more a sour ale than a tripel, but it's quite balanced and enjoyable regardless of style.

Highly drinkable - and even refreshing - fare from Victory. I'll easily finish a bottle within less than 10 minutes; this stuff is dangerously good. That said, it is lacking in terms of complexity and subtlety, and depth of flavour could be improved.

Flavour duration is moderately high. Flavour intensity is moderate.

Smooth, wet, medium to full-bodied, acidic, and of apt thickness. Well-carbonated.

I do detect some butyric acid off-flavour in the aftertaste, unfortunately.

Way, way, way too much alcohol !!! Over-Filtered!! Tin taste, flat head and thin feel. Seems like a Macro mass production approach versus a Micro craft approach for a sour. Out here in Colorado we are blessed with several great sour Brewers using various techniques and methods, such as, aged barrel and kettle forms. This PA beer seems to getting high grades because of the lack of local NE competing sours.

Maybe this brewery played it "too safe," was not familiar with the bacteria and process, and was afraid of the air released bacteria risk, and potentially getting a hazmat crew onsite, , SO, , , they went BIG on the alcohol. If that is the case, then don't mess with Brett.

The 9.5% alcohol is WAY too much and harsh and over powers the palate taste and the back of your mouth and throat. Sure, this beer has a nice, clean, sour finish, but you won't be drinking several of these beers on a hot Summer day, unless you want a headache.

Over filtered! If you are looking for traditional Brett funk, forget it! Save your money. This is an Anti-Session sour beer. If you are looking primarily for just an expensive buzz, then buy this beer. I also noticed this beer ONLY gets a 56 Grade on the "other" notable "rate beer" grading Website. That's about right, a 56 Style rating (not mine, but the Beer Experts)! Cut the alcohol down to at least 7% and things will improve for this over-filtered product.

Another 4.2 beer this week. Lucky me.
a) Clear golden body with suitable energetic white head that spouts scads of white lace while lasting in a rim.
s) Exciting sour yeast and clean inviting, with lime, green apply, astringent chardonnay as the key notes.
t) Follows smell but brings more: wild yeast sours the beer in a puckering astringent (happy if you like sours) arc that lands tart, clean, dry. Along the rainbow are tart green apple, lime, sour white grape, pickle brine. I dont know a wine or beer that delivers so much interest and pucker.
f) Acidity keeps rising as it peels the green apple and then your palate. Never overwhelming.
o) Might have to up my rating, as it warms. Would love to taste in a flight of sours.

Picked up this brew tonight after work in a six pack ( bottles) and all I have to say right off is wow!!! This is awesome in every way. I pours a deep golden straw color. The smell is tart berry and citrus and faint wheatieness. The taste is sour berries and dry wheat with ultra tart citrus but not lip puckering. Overall I will definitely be getting this bad monkey again !!!

Pours crystal clear straw yellow. Minimal head, but very good for a sour.
Nose is lemon, citrus,
Taste is lemon zest, light tripel notes- bready, light spice, citrus, lightly tart. Refreshing. Deceptively drinkable.
Clean, crisp finish. Not dry.
Good beer!

12oz bottle rough pour into pint glass produces a very little white head to it, body is clear bright gold with a good amount of bubbles floating up, generally get light lacing from it

Smell is.. funky to say the least, very sour, lots of lemon, maybe some sourdough bread

The first sip is always the most tart, seems to mellow after a few but definitely lemon/citrus sourness, I get some spicy bready flavors in the finish

Personally too carbonated for me to have more then one in a session, very sharp, but still not as dry as I tend to associate with higher carbonation

Overall I’ve had a few sour variations and this is still my favorite, but that being said I gotta really be in the mood for one, haven’t found that right food to pair it with yet lol
