This beer is the perfect sour. Not too light, not too sour. Great balance of flavors to the point where you can easily knock back a six pack. And at 9.5%, this beer is simply amazing.

Hazy amber color with apparent carbonation and a thin head that vanished quickly.
Sour aroma with notes of white grapes, lactic acid, lemon drops, guava and green apple.
Flavor with notes of lemon juice, lactic acid, mild sulfur-earth, green apples, a bit of honey, guava, faint apricot and ginger. Dry aftertaste with an acid feeling.
Light towards medium body with appropriate carbonation. No way you can tell this is 9.5% abv.
Very good Sour. Combines tropical with acid fruits on Chardonnay base.
Men, this is tart! It was well attenuated. I could feel its acidity even on my lips. Although the base is the Golden Monkey, there is practically no resemblance at all. Again, it is the yeast, stupid.

It takes a good bit to surprise me in my role as founder of The CANQuest (tm), but this one is kind of twofold. Vctory B.C.'s co-founder, Bill Covaleski, told me in ~ 2006 that Victory beers would go into CANs at the same time that Hell freezes over. Fortunately, I took him at his word, signed a long-term contract to supply Hades with foul weather gear & now, I am a VERY rich man. The other big Q when craft beer CANning really started to take off was in regard to Tart/Sour & CAN-conditioned beers with added yeast. Clearly, if Victory is CANning a Sour Beer, we have answered that Q!

From the CAN: "Sour, Brettanomyces Tripel"; "Taste Victory Responsibly * Please Recycle"; "This Sour, Brettanomyces-fermented Tripel puts a tastefully tart twist on Golden Monkey's sweet, fruity essence with its sharp, citrus-laden tang."; "Brewmasters' Approval[: undersigned] Bill [&] Ron".

The Monkey inside fought me on the Crack!, but one I got the upper hand & forced him open, he got really Sour. I decided to fix his little red monkey wagon with an inverted Glug. This generated two-plus fingers of foamy, fizzy, rocky, bone-white head that quickly reduced to wisps. Color was a very pretty Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity, but the nose caused The Gelt Gang to decline. Nose was more tart than sour, kind of lemony, but with a light funkiness, causing my lips to lightly purse. Mouthfeel was kind of thin, not precisely watery, but not much beyond it, either. The taste had the sharp sourness of aged cheese, lemons and the barnyard funk that others have tried to describe in the past. Phew! Not my bag, but I am to rate to style, not to personal taste. This was more intense than I expected, but Victory was never shy about pushing boundaries. I could feel it in the hinges of my jaw as my ears began to ring. That's sour! Finish was bone-dry and I was glad that I had water near-to-hand. It left me with a cheesy, lemony taste that was not bad, but one was it for me. YMMV.

This groovy sour will place you firmly in your chair without really feeling the high abv. A delicious, puckery sour to start the evening right.
