This was the first sour beer I've ever had, and it's delicious. It packs a punch on the first sip (at least for those that may not be exposed to such a beer), but after that it's smooth sailing.

Poured from bottle into tulip glass. Poured a hazy gold with slight white head. Hints of fruit and funk on the nose. Taste followed the aroma, tart up front with a fruity almost wine semi-dry finish. An enjoyable sipper that masks the high APV well

A 1 pint 9.4 fl. oz. corked and caged bottle, bottled on 1st July 2015… wow, pulled from the cellar just over 3 years old. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.

Appearance: A lightly hazy light copper colour with a less than half finger white head that disappeared almost immediately while leaving behind some sparse lacing.

Aroma: Tart, grape, prunes, plum, apple and lemon with maybe some light funk.

Taste: Sour, tart, grape, prunes, lemon and apple cider.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate to soft carbonation.

Overall: Not bad, but there didn’t seem to be much complexity to it. Not getting much funk or wood. It was just straight sour and fruit. I was very surprised that it was 9.5% ABV though, as it did not feel anywhere near that at all.

Pours a light yellow with low-medium carbonation, very little head. Aroma is a sour/cidery thing with a hint of funk. Taste is much the same and the funk seems to increase as it warms up. A sipper with a lot of depth for a mass produced beer I got at trader joe's for 2.50. Overall a fun journey!

I haven't tried many sours but this is by far my favorite.

There is a distinct flavor in this beer that is so apparent and easy to point out and that's white grapes. I used to have a several grape vines at my home when I was younger. White grapes can be VERY sour when they aren't ripe. This is this beer in a nutshell. It is sour white grapes. Tastes just like a white wine but more sour. That's the most accurate way someone will describe this beer to you.

I'm enjoying this quite a bit especially after having so many disgusting sour beers.

bottle to snifter.

Actually quite enjoyable. I may be warming up to the sour idea. If I have heartburn issues tonight, I will erase this commentary.

pale yellow color, small white head.

AROMA: mold, lemon
TASTE: sour pear, sour apple, hint of peach. There is a light rice flavor in the malt. Pretty Tasty.
FEEL: very light, thin, light carbonation

Very sipp-able and enjoyable. Peripherals are poor, but I would drink this again.

Pours out clear golden. The head is white with great retention. There is some uneven lacing around the glass. I like the color. It almost seems to glow.

The nose carries tart white grapes, sour lemon, and some funk. Very white wine like.

Very much like chardonnay. Tart white grapes up front but this time around they sweeten out. The funk is still there and shines through in the finish. The alcohol is nicely hidden as well at 9.5 abv.

The mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing. I would say since its very much like a chardonnay it reminds me of a white wine spritzer.

An odd but good beer. Its equally malty and sour but surprisingly thin in the mouth. It took me a few sips to start to appreciate it. Its definitely unique and packs a punch at 9.5%. It's surprisingly affordable; I scored a 6-pack for $10. If you have the chance, give it a try!

This has been my "go-to" beer for the entire summer. It is spectacularly refreshing, and the more I drink it, the more I like it. I was initially very skeptical of sour beers. I couldn't imagine how they could be any good. But enough people seemed to vouch for them that I figured I'd give one a try. Sour Monkey was the first of several that I've had over the past 6 months, and it remains one of my favorites among ALL beers.

Poured into a glass, it's not much to look at. It looks like, you know, beer, but with almost no head. It does leave lacing, for those who care. (I don't.) If that's a flaw, it's the only one.

The smell is tart, and in a good way. The taste is outstanding. Sour like a good white wine. I don't know if the flavor is "balanced," and I don't care. It's just good, and it goes down so well on a hot summer's day. Even with the high ABV, which is off-putting to some people, but which I also like.

Carbonation is fairly high, enough to tickle the throat and add to the summery refreshing experience.

I've probably had dozens of bottles of the stuff since March. I pick some up almost every time I see it.

Pours hazy yellow with light white head. Smells of sour green apple and almost sweet. Taste is very tart, tasting strong of citrus and tropical fruits. Occasional hint of spice, perhaps corriander. The burn and taste lingers temporarily, but short enough you want to go back for more. Very light, almost watery, but this works well with the beer. Excellent sour and tastes nothing like Golden Monkey though.
6pk 12oz bottles for $9.99. Excellent for the money. Highly recommend

12 oz can, canned 3/3/18. Pours slightly hazy straw yellow with a fizzy white head that goes to a thin collar.

The aroma is earthy malt and some tart green apple.

The flavor is sweet wheat malt with big tart and sour apple. The mouthfeel is a bit thin and watery.

Overall, an interesting sour - very different from Golden Monkey.

DATE: July 10, 2018... OCCASION: the final Downton Abbey has begun, and we are prepared for the best AND worst.... GLASSWARE: Chimay chalice... the introduction is an effervescent flame uprising at its center, striking upward through its translucent gold, while it creates a head of off-white smears that form an egg-shaped island... fruity melon and boozy esters swirl with honey, rye bread, spiciness, lager-like hops that embolden and spike of strong flowers--a somewhat magical elixir in its aroma... in many ways, it's the old Monkey with tart implications... a champagne-like mouthfeel, bubbly, tart, taut, sharp and dry at the throat... this makes for a great toasting beer, balanced and without the effect of its powerful 9.5% punch... this sour revels in its lemon, white grape, pepper, pine, and sharp cheeses... this is quite a strong variation of the original, one I would look forward to having again in the future, with its sweetness and tartness making for a unified, enjoyable ale...
