750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/24/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange/copper color with a small dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart cherry, raspberry, lemon, plum, apricot, green apple, hay, straw, pepper, leather, musty funk, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, light nuttiness, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast and light-moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart cherry, raspberry, lemon, plum, apricot, green apple, hay, straw, pepper, leather, musty funk, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, light nuttiness, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Moderate fruity/acidic tartness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart cherry, raspberry, lemon, plum, apricot, green apple, hay, straw, pepper, leather, musty funk, caramel, brown sugar, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast and light-moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/spiciness balance and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from acidity/spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately acidic, and lightly grainy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent sour Dubbel style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast and light-moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV and balanced acidity. A very enjoyable offering.

2016 release

Pours a cloudy hazy dark amber red-orange brown with a minimal dissipating frothy off-white light khaki colored foam head. Smells a bit acetic and vinous, like tart cherry, red fruit, red wine, dried fruits, apricot, toasted bready malts, caramel, dark toffee, chocolate, molasses, spice, red grape, raisin, some funk, with earthy floral hops. Tastes a bit sweet with some brett tartness cutting through the rich malt, notes of caramel, vanilla, toasted bready malt, dark toffee, molasses, chocolate, spice, raisin, prune, red grape, cherry, tart red fruit, dried fruits, apricot, apple, slight funk, straw, and earthy herbal floral hops. Feels medium bodied, thick, creamy with smooth moderate carbonation. Overall a nice and interesting dubbel ale with brettanomyces.

From the 750 ml bottle in a snifter via a friend from work---Thanks Randy!
This tart surprise pours a luminous orange tinged brown color with a nice head
of white foam that settles to a thick ring, thin light layer, and showcases some nice
light lacing. Nose of green apple, tart cherries, yeasty funk, and light citrus notes.
Flavors lightly exceed the nose with cherry and definite green apple notes mingling
with white grapes and yeasty funk that is more mild than many of the style with a touch
of lemon pulp and grapefruit on the rear. Very nice mouth feel; medium light carbonation,
medium light body, and a tart brett tinged finish with some light warmth to the belly.

Overall it is one of the best of the style I have tried. More balanced than most. A great
introduction to the style for those wanting to branch out into the "wild side" of ale which is
a pricey endeavor generally speaking.

Cheers

Loved this beer a lot. The Brett is dialed back and very complimentary to the fruit flavors of apples and tart cherries I taste. The beer is nicely sweet and tart with great carbonation. The aroma is slightly funky, sweet and fruity. This one is a winner.

On-tap 4/30/2017 at British Brewing Company in Walpole, MA, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a dark coppery gold color, with a thin short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains wild Belgian yeast, tart cherries, grapes and light malts.

T: The taste starts out with tart flavors of cherries and grapes. Then some breadiness comes in from wild Belgian yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. The hops presence is very mild but brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly tart.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, strong kick, good representation of style, this is a decent sour beer to drink for a while.
