A nice little beer stop just down the street from Berkeley's trendy 4th Street shopping area. Always a good variety of Sierra beers on tap. They also have beer to go.

Since Chico is a trek, I had to settle for this place but it hardly felt like settling. It's a nice space and not far from Fieldwork and Rare Barrel so one can easily hit the three of them.

The beer selection was pretty cool when I was there, having the Otra Vez gose which I hadn't tried at that point, plus Rum Barrel-Aged Narwahl, their 35th Anniversay beer and a variant of Rain Check that never got NM distribution.

Flights were fairly priced and the pours generous. There was lots of cool swag for sale and plenty of bottles for sale including some Torpedo only bottles.

Definitely worth a visit.

I went to pick up my beers as part of the Alpha Hops Society on a Sunday afternoon. Stayed a couple of hours and enjoyed a couple of beers. Nice balance between commonly available beers and limited releases.

Friendly, cozy atmosphere. I don't spend much time in Berkeley, but it was definitely an active area with the amount of foot traffic. Nice bar and large windows. Looking forward to go back and pick up my next beers for the Alpha Hops Society in a couple of months!

I recently stopped in here on a trip to Northern California. It's a fairly small location with some room at the bar to drink and some interesting looking tables as well. The staff there was quite nice and helpful for my entire visit. They had 16 beers on tap when I was there, including their normal year round offerings and lots of one off and barrel aged beers. They also have a large selection of bottles for purchase, including one off and barrel aged beers. The quality of all the beers was good, and I like that they use larger than normal glasses for the taster pours.

Almost everyone who was a teenager between the years of 1979 to present day that's ever lived in a place that matters, should have had that fateful moment when a parental unit handed you that iconic green bottle of Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale at a barbecue or perhaps during a holiday family gathering.

Whereas general perception of Sierra Nevada might stray a little bit from "craft" due to the ubiquitous and dangerously-drinkable nature of its flagship brew the Torpedo Room serves as a reminder that Sierra Nevada is, has, and always will be, as "craft" as one could ever get -- without the arduous journey up to Chico.

If you've never tried any of Sierra Nevada's other year-round/seasonal/barrel-aged offerings because there are so many amazing choices available to you in California, this is your lucky day, as the Torpedo Room pretty much carries all the year-rounds and seasonals on tap. They also carry the much sought-after bourbonified versions of their much darker Narwhal and Bigfoot on a rotational basis, both of which are available in sampler format and sometimes as a growler fill, if you liked what you tasted.

The atmosphere is more Berkeley than Sierra Nevada, but that was actually a welcome sight for me; I was expecting something like a rustic, barnyard theme open area bar, but the Torpedo Room instead has a cozy modern-chic atmosphere, with a loooooong serving counter surrounded by little two-seater tables and window seating to the side.

I know this isn't the most convincing of reviews, but do give the Torpedo Room a shot if you're a beergeek making the Norcal pilgrimage (that is if Chico isn't on your list of destinations already) -- you definitely will not regret the choice, unless your entire party drove here, in which case good luck figuring out who's going to be charged with the DUI =)

I really like the vibe here actually. Never feels too full, big open doors/windows, and the repurposed brewery pieces turned into furniture are really interesting. Plus watching the growler fills is entertaining enough.

Quality is top notch. Clean and professional service.

Great Service at the Torpedo room. Friendly and enthusiastic bartenders, I even had one pour a very old bigfoot for our group just because we were all having a nice conversation.

Here is where the hurt comes in. Mostly standard SN offerings, usually only 1 or 2 specialties on the board... and they only do sample pours/flights. If I was going to order a Pale Ale or something I don't want a few oz I just want a pint. This would've honestly been a 1.5 for selection but im adding a full point back in because they do carry the special brewery release bottles and some vintage offerings in the cooler.

This place is worth working in as a quick stop on your fieldwork>rare barrel>faction>etc East Bay crawls.

Cool little spot right off of the freeway, nice selection of beer and brewing inspired decor. Tasting list (everything is sold in 4oz or pint sized - pint size only being the original model) is out of this world...Sierra Nevada only. Rare one offs from Chico and NC are mixed in with standard shelf beers. Pricing is very competitive, and their bottle selection to go usually has some rarities. Awesome place.

I was here the week the opened, and I've unfortunately been back a few times since. I don't know what the deal is -- since I like Sierra Nevada -- but all the beer here tastes flat and sameish. An imperial stout and a wheat beer should not taste the same. You know how nitro taps have a strange sort of background taste that's consistent through beers and it takes away from the flavor? Same thing here.

The design is cool, and it's well-decorated. I thought there would be more interesting beers on tap.

Very cool place, friendly staff. They must have made some changes because they had a few draft only special beers available, plus a firkin, and we're offering 8 oz pours along with the 4 oz sampler size. It was nice to try some of their big barrel aged beers before investing in a $20+ bottle.

Cool little spot, not that large but a nice design. I might just have hit it at a good time but they had 7 non bottled offerings on tap plus three one time bottelings to go. Also i believe they are doing larger pours now. I didn't go in with high expectations but ended up liking it better than the chico location. Also a killer growler fill system, even though inpassed on a fill.

This place is a conundrum. They only serve four ounce pours of their beer (at about $2 each), it doesn’t matter which, with idea that you can taste multiple beers in one sitting. And while I like the idea of this, the first problem is there is almost never have anything special on their tap list. Which leads me to my second problem: I don’t want a four ounce pour of a standard SN beer I can buy in a six pack, I want a pint. I would take a few different four ounce pours of some limited release or tap only beers, but then what if I like it? In the past I’ve literally ordered three or four tasters of the same beer and dumped them into one glass. If it sounds like I’m whining it’s because I am.

I’ve been to the restaurant/taproom at the brewery many times, and every time there is close to a dozen beers that you can find nowhere else (tap only). Why not bring some kegs of this stuff down to the Torpedo room and offer four ounce pours of it? Or alternatively, offer pints of all the standard beers and four ounce pours on all the beers.

Everything else about this place is fine. The interior design/decorations are clean. They offer reasonably priced grower fills of everything on tap (except nitro), they have a decent amount of swag for purchase (although not nearly the selection of the brewery), and they offer a few small things to munch on. Overall, it’s a nice place to sit and have beer flight and try new things, but if you’re a regular or if you’re already familiar with most/all the beers they have on tap, then the novelty of being forced into sampling everything wears thin.

Tried today and was luke warm.
Cool little spot and great interior. Enough SN gear for someone who wanted a shirt or hat.
What struck me was their rather pedestrian taplist.... While there were a few that I hadn't seen before, other than Trip in the Woods and Hoptimum, there wasn't anything that hit me with "oohhhh I've got to try that!"
That being said, while they only do small pours (4oz maybe ?) and they range from $1.50 to $3. And they only do a small plate of charchutterie (sp). Not sure if you can bring in your own or not.
I understand what they're doing and I'll gladly go back since it's so close, I just wish they had some stuff that game me instant wood.
