A: Beautiful, murky hop juice. Liquid is a nice light gold with a twinge of orange thrown in, sitting beneath about a finger of ultra creamy just-off-white head. Lacing is thick and even around the glass, and head sticks around for gravity-defying amounts of time.

S: Complex, balanced, rounded... Whatever you wanna call it, there's a ton going on here. No single note stands out, but many are clearly perceivable. There's some candied (though not overly sweet) vaguely tropical fruit (pineapple? peach?) and spritzy citrus (lemon/lime? touch of tangerine?) along with restrained notes of pine sap and a more assertive resinous hop character. Seriously, this smells like opening a bag of fresh hops, dousing it in fruit juice, and throwing in some sugar for good measure. Pungent for the ABV, and comes out even more as the beer warms.

T: Jesus. This is ridiculous. All that balance/complexity/roundedness that was there on the nose drives this beer through the taste. My goodness. Drinks with the intensity of an 8% beer, but again, nothing overwhelms so as to keep the palate unexhausted. It's bright and zesty, with more of that lemon/limey thing and a bit of sweeter citrus juice. Malt backbone is more present than I'd expect for a beer at this ABV, but it works so damn well here, bringing in that sugary, candied fruit element and "tropicalizing" some of those fruit notes (I'm getting mango, pineapple, peach for sure). Candied fruit is further accentuated by a really nice punch of bubblegummy yeast flavor--not too much so as to throw banana esters into the mix, but just enough to pick it up. Finish has both medium sweetness and medium bitterness, the latter arriving along with a dank and resinous yet somehow clean (?) raw hop pellet note. It's not that dirty, musty earthiness I get on some beers, but more of a minty, herbaceous, lightly piney flavor. Wow.

M: Soft and pillowy with enough weight to keep you from just chugging the whole thing at once. Carbonation is medium to medium-minus... Thinking it lost something in the growler for 4 days, as others seem to suggest that the carb on this is perfect. But with growler failures aside, this is still damn near perfect. Incredibly balanced on the bitter vs. sweet spectrum without a hint of alcohol presence.

O: My second BG experience and I'm officially converted. Mammoth was good, but I felt it was almost TOO balanced. The General is pretty much perfect as far as 6.8% IPAs are concerned.. This beer reminds me of a smoother, more refined version of Citraquench'l from Heist, perhaps a bit fruitier with a more restrained resin note on the finish. Delicious.

L: straw, hazy. White head about 1"
S: big tropical fruit.
T: follows smell. Sweet pinnapple/ grapefruit up front. Some bitterness on the back.
B: on thinner side. Sticky and plush.
O: spot on. For a flagship, it is top notch. Sweet and bitter make a nice balance ale that stands up with the best of them.
