I wish there was a rating of 10.
BG’s Double Mex is one of their supreme brews. It is one to drink for dessert. Over and over. Flavors of caramel, molasses, bourbon. Just delicious.

Draft pour at BG

L - Dark chocolate brown. Decadently creamy looking head that resembles a latte or frappachino.

S -Super fresh coffee. Milk chocolate. Vanilla.

T - Fudgey milk chocolate up front. A blast of cinnamon follows hard and fast. Finishes with fresh ground coffee poured over vanilla ice cream.

M - Incredibly frothy and thick for 9.9%

Overall - I expected an good beer, but it to be a little hyped. I stand corrected.

Muted black with thin brown edges and a bubbly tan collar.

Smell is like really dry coffee that's super forward with some musty pepper in the background.

Taste adds chocolate to the chili and coffee with a cinnamon after taste through a medium-thin body and a dry finish.

Double Mex is not as fantastic as it sounds like it will be, and it does not seem like the barrel made a big difference.

2017 version upping my score as the review below is the 2016 version. Much better mouthfeel on this years which takes this beer up to a 4.75.

750ml bottle poured into an East End Brewing snifter:

Look: Pours an amazing jet black color with about an inch of a dark tan/expresso like head! Little to no lacing present but that doesn't matter here as this beer looks amazing on the pour!

Smell: Notes of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon with some bourbon! Smells amazing!

Taste: Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and some minor bourbon notes present. Could be a touch more bourbon and this would be a 5 star beer!

Feel: Medium bodied. Could be a touch thicker on the mouthfeel but I am nitpicking. (Update the 2017 version had a much fuller mouthfeel so upping my score!)

Overall: Another home run from the crew at Brew Gents! Such a complex beer withs soo much going on! I will be revisiting this beer when it is released again this year!

750ml bottle, 2016 vintage, poured into a 16oz stemless wine glass. Enjoyed on 1.8.2017, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a jet black color, very opaque, khaki head, about a finger high that has decent retention and yields spotted lace. The aroma is quite pleasant, tons of coffee, dark chocolate, light cinnamon with a touch of vanilla bean, mild barrel character, a touch of oak, soft and earthy with toffee forward bourbon and a touch of warmth that lingers. Cinnamon really pops on the tongue, light coffee roast, a touch of acidity, baker's chocolate, vanilla bean, lots of oak with some toffee and caramel forward bourbon, light spice and a lingering roasted grain flavor. The mouthfeel is good, medium body, nice legs, coats very well with lively carbonation, a bit dry from the cinnamon with a warm finish from the barrel.

Verdict: A really good adjunct stout from Brew Gentlemen, lots of cinnamon flavor which I really like. The coffee and vanilla work well together and add some great layers of flavor that sit on top of a very nice oatmeal stout base and the barrel character is subtle but adds good complexity and really enhances the beer.
