750 ml bottle
Pours opaque black, tan head is velvety smooth, almost nitrous-like. Reminiscent of cappuccino. Very slowly dissipates.
Smells of rich cacao nibs, cinnamon, vanilla, cream, oak, maybe a bit of honey, and pecan.
Flavor is of fresh coffee, cocoa, cinnamon, honey, oak, oats, rye whiskey, vanilla bean, and caramel.
Full viscous body, light stinging carbonation and numbs going down.
I've been trying to get my hands on a bottle of this for I think seven years. In 2020 I finally did it. It's been such a pain getting a hold of one, but I can safely say that the hype is deserved. It's really damn good. Despite the flavor profile, it's not overly rich but rather very well balanced. The flavors are delicious. Besides being outstanding, the cinnamon sets it apart from other notable big stouts, so it's distinct and memorable. Truly a treat and worth the effort to get. Definitely try this.

2019 vintage.
This one pours a very dark black, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like rye spice, candied cinnamon stick, vanilla, oak barrel, roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, and light coffee.
This is a year or so old, so perhaps the coffee faded a bit, or perhaps they didn't intend for the coffee to be dominant here. Whatever is the case, it's still a good, but dry take on the style, with some candied cinnamon spice, a dry rye spice, some oaken vanilla and regular sweet vanilla, a touch of bittersweet molasses, and a sort of whiskey caramel type thing. There's a touch of roasted and bitter grain. This is more of a straight up stout than a pastry stout, despite the long ingredients list.
This is medium bodied, dry, and smooth on the finish, with basically no booziness to it. The ABV is a bit lower than I expect for BA stouts, but that does keep it feeling lighter on the palate overall.
I expected a bit more out of this, as it's definitely a more subtler take on the style. That's honestly something to be celebrated, as it's far from an out-and-out sugar bomb. It's balanced and well brewed.

I wish there was a rating of 10.
BG’s Double Mex is one of their supreme brews. It is one to drink for dessert. Over and over. Flavors of caramel, molasses, bourbon. Just delicious.
