Aeronaut Brewing Company
Massachusetts, United States

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.30%

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is our one year anniversary IPA. This beer is the full strength IPA of the Session with Dr. Nandu which was the first beer ever brewed by the Aeronaut team (even before it was Aeronaut). The original beer was inspired by the Spanish Table beer Guineu Riner and Founders All Day IPA. The concept was to make a delightful, light, floral, fruity highly drinkable pale ale. In this beer we find a faint malt sweetness is paired with a distinct bitterness and rich tropical aromas of Mosaic hops.

Style: India Pale Ale

Piney, Dank, Pithy, Bold

This is a grownup IPA. While all of the kids are brainwashed into drinking their juicy opaque IPAs, the veteran beer geeks notice the more intricate, well-played out and bold IPAs that don’t try to ride or even desperately keep up with a supposed Northeast—or Vermont—IPA trend. And let's not forget the balance and drinkability; A Year With Dr. Nandu is swimming in it ... just swimming in it. Hunt this one down.

I had a strange experience while visiting Curtis Liquors in Weymouth, MA. The store has a slightly bizarre setup. There are random fridges set up around the front with a mishmash of spirits. You'll see a nice local Farmhouse parked right next to Spiked Seltzer, next to Kambucha next to mid-shelf Champagne. Stuck all by it's lonesome was a four pack of cans, white background with some red and black doodles throughout that look like they may have been conceived with a couple of colored pens on a cocktail napkin... how was I going to say No?

Pours a liquid copper, darker American IPA malty color. Looks really nice and likely indicative of a balanced malt v. fruit IPA.

Smell is grapefruit rind, buttery biscuit the marriage of malt and hops you'd expect. Nothing exceptional as everything is subdued.

Taste is, well, a slight disappointment. Malty, dirty grapefruit rind and a dusting of floral with a sneaky estery banana/bubblegum finish which is the winner as far as positive flavors.

Moutfeel is great, not sticky. The beer doesn't coat your tongue and throat and every sip is more of an experience than a chore. Surprisingly light, almost refreshing. Wow.

This is a good IPA, it hits on all fronts, but where some aspects are a home run I'd say the flavor is a seeing eye single. All the flavors are present and theres some pleasant flavorful surprises but it leaves me wanting a little more.

This is my first experience with AERONAUT and I'm a fan, they certainly seem to have their act together.

Strong recommendation to try

Poured from a can dated 7/15/16 into a nonic pint glass.
A - Wonderful copper color, I love the clarity in the offering, strong carbonation feeds a nice frothy cap.
S - Batard out of the oven smeared with orange marmalade, excellent aromatics. Grain well displayed and the hops are mainly tropical.
T - Starts out piney, shifts to comfier, then slightly sweet malts. The flavors run in a narrow band.
M - Full in body, nice carbonation keeps things moving along. There is a linger with an ever slight metallic finish.
O - A well constructed IPA . the grains come through and again, I love the clarity.

Had on tap. Pours clear, gold in color, with 1/3 inch head. Taste is very herbal, with tea, wet hops, and malty grain. Solid IPA that I could do several of. Interesting IPA that has me curious about other Aeronaut offerings.

Nice East Coast, heavy on the hops, hoppy after taste, no noticeable citrus. Weak smell bu wonderful taste. Definitely worth a try if you like IPAs.

Love the art work on this can! 9/13/18 opened on 10/17/18.

Pours out to be a rather clear golden Amber color. White clumpy foam soon spreads out thin, solid ring and scattered foam remains.

A very hearty, grainy, citrus and peppery grapefruit, rich lupilin, style aroma from the Mosiac hops. A slightly sweet, Amber/buttery malted scent also brings light sweetness.

The overall flavor and mouthfeel really does come across as a hefty sided session IPA. 6.5 % abv. Is a heavy session, more complex than most session style ipa's as well, but it's light to medium bodied approach makes it very easy breezy.

Hearty, earthy and grainy hits me first, deep Mosiac hop effects, peppery citrus and mild juicy toned hops keeps the complexity high. The malt really plays well around the edges, sweet Amber, bready with a hit of honey is easily detected after the hops relax.

Very enjoyable and easy with decent complexity overall. O.k time to sip!

I got one can of it given to me by a friend. Pours a nice clear golden color. I couldn't smell much. Text was very smooth as was my mouth feel. Over all A very nice beer from a brewery that I had never heard of and wouldn't mind hearing more from. Good job and I would definitely buy that again even if somebody didn't give it to me for free

16 oz can poured into pint glass canned on 8/25

A: Light amber, great clarity, very small white head but it was a full pour so not much room for it to develop.

S: Lots of candied hops, sweet, pineapple, light mango, peaches, a little bit of a bready end

T: Nice pineapple, mango, grapefruit, lightly herbal very juicy

M: Light to medium with a fine line but more medium not very cloying on the tongue ends slightly dry.

O: This beer is pretty good. The beer tastes cleaner and not as muddled as Hop Hop and Away. Nice juicy fruit flavors with a nice medium body just a solid IPA.

2016 Year with Dr. Nandu, transported in a crowler and served in a tall glass. Beer pours pale golden in color and looks quite tame. Aroma however is magnificent. Tropical fruit punch, passionfruit, papaya. Flavor of hoppy and fruity, very drinkable for a double IPA. Sweet and bright, easy to drink, and non-traditional for an IPA. An impressive offering which has raised my expectations from Aeronaut.

This is my first beer from Aeronaut - found it at the local packing store just over the border into Maine. Canned 12/29/16. Just gonna say from the start... this beer would be the love child of Old Speckled Hen and an American IPA, meaning caramel malts underlying a moderately fruity hop profile. And that should not scare you by any means.

Deep, satisfying copper orange color with a half-finger head. Nicely carbonated with a clear body. Muted floral aroma, nothing jumps out but definitely declares itself in the American IPA style.

Mouth feel is crisp and light - not terribly malty yet not necessarily hop-forward either. Bitterness is moderate all around. I get definite caramel flavors in the after taste and the Mosaic comes out most at the end. I think they have succeeded with Mosaic where many have failed by keeping it tempered by sweetness. Interesting.

This beer leaves me wishing I could have this in the summer instead (hopefully it gets released in June again this year). If they were shooting for Founders All Day I think they overshot it by a mile because it has a much more complex flavor profile with less reliance on malt. I definitely want to have this again and look forward to hunting for it.

16 oz. can. Hazy orange. Small white head. Smell is citrus and some sharp tropical fruits. Caramel malt without smelling sweet. Taste has an oniony hop flavor. Some citrus. Sharp. Malty again with no sweetness. Bitter and sharp in the finish. Medium body. Low carbonation. Aggressive IPA. I can't say it's my favorite flavor profile, but it still works pretty well.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a golden burnt orange color with a sly transparency about it. Some carbonation could be seen rising at a moderate pace. Sticky lace clings around the glass after a finger’s worth of white foamy head dissipated. The aroma started with some danky sweet onion, thick grassy bitter hops, subtle pine and all of that seems to layer on the malts nice and clean. The flavor yields to the maltiness, somewhat sweet but clean and throwing itself against the bitterness of the hops and then brings in some citrus against that pine and dankiness. Aftertaste seems well balanced between the malts and the hops. Quick finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Mild carbonation. Sly acceptable stickiness. Overall, I was quite impressed with my first Aeronaut beer. Very well balanced.
