A Year With Dr. NanduA Year With Dr. Nandu
Notes: This is our one year anniversary IPA. This beer is the full strength IPA of the Session with Dr. Nandu which was the first beer ever brewed by the Aeronaut team (even before it was Aeronaut). The original beer was inspired by the Spanish Table beer Guineu Riner and Founders All Day IPA. The concept was to make a delightful, light, floral, fruity highly drinkable pale ale. In this beer we find a faint malt sweetness is paired with a distinct bitterness and rich tropical aromas of Mosaic hops.

Style: India Pale Ale
ABV: 6.3%
65.8 IBU

Poured from a can dated 7/15/16 into a nonic pint glass.
A - Wonderful copper color, I love the clarity in the offering, strong carbonation feeds a nice frothy cap.
S - Batard out of the oven smeared with orange marmalade, excellent aromatics. Grain well displayed and the hops are mainly tropical.
T - Starts out piney, shifts to comfier, then slightly sweet malts. The flavors run in a narrow band.
M - Full in body, nice carbonation keeps things moving along. There is a linger with an ever slight metallic finish.
O - A well constructed IPA . the grains come through and again, I love the clarity.

I had a strange experience while visiting Curtis Liquors in Weymouth, MA. The store has a slightly bizarre setup. There are random fridges set up around the front with a mishmash of spirits. You'll see a nice local Farmhouse parked right next to Spiked Seltzer, next to Kambucha next to mid-shelf Champagne. Stuck all by it's lonesome was a four pack of cans, white background with some red and black doodles throughout that look like they may have been conceived with a couple of colored pens on a cocktail napkin... how was I going to say No?

Pours a liquid copper, darker American IPA malty color. Looks really nice and likely indicative of a balanced malt v. fruit IPA.

Smell is grapefruit rind, buttery biscuit the marriage of malt and hops you'd expect. Nothing exceptional as everything is subdued.

Taste is, well, a slight disappointment. Malty, dirty grapefruit rind and a dusting of floral with a sneaky estery banana/bubblegum finish which is the winner as far as positive flavors.

Moutfeel is great, not sticky. The beer doesn't coat your tongue and throat and every sip is more of an experience than a chore. Surprisingly light, almost refreshing. Wow.

This is a good IPA, it hits on all fronts, but where some aspects are a home run I'd say the flavor is a seeing eye single. All the flavors are present and theres some pleasant flavorful surprises but it leaves me wanting a little more.

This is my first experience with AERONAUT and I'm a fan, they certainly seem to have their act together.

Strong recommendation to try

Poured an amber-gold color with a 2F head which quickly resolved in a Spiegelau glass.

Earthy aroma with a little citrus- not very strong, but pleasant.

A very unusual citrus taste which I haven't tasted in other IPAs.
Very enjoyable, and different. There is also an earthy character to the beer- not overdone.

The palate is quite enjoyable. Very hoppy, but not overdone. Very sharp.

Overall, an excellent IPA. The taste is unusual, and I really enjoyed the palate .

Recommended at Pour Richards in Franklin, MA when buying Singlecut. This smells juicy but tastes a little less juicy than it smells. That's fine! Excellent IPA.

Appearance: Pours hazy and amber, with a one inch head; shards of lacing dance around the glass

Smell: Floral and tropical, with papaya, grapefruit and passionfruit elements

Taste: The malt base is there and adds just a touch of biscuity sweetness to underpin the tropical fruit flavors; some grapefruit bitterness builds in the middle but nothing goes overboard in any direction

Mouthfeel: Medium body, somewhat creamy, with moderate carbonation

Overall: Drinkability is through the roof here; nice job

A great beer for the every day. It's available, it's affordable, it's in 16oz tall boys and it's really good. Nandu is hoppy and malty, it clocks in under 7 abv and it's extremely easy drinking. This is in my regular rotation of "beers to drink that I really enjoy but I won't get hammered having a few". It shares that distinction with Be Hoppy, Flower Power and Flying Jenny. If you like those, this is similar but tops of the list imo.

Poured cloudy orange, thin head and slight lacing. Smell grapefruit and grassy. Taste was slightly bitter finish and a smooth start. Mouth feel was weird kind of a mix of thin dry and slick I thought it would be better but maybe it was me. I'm not sure I would buy it again.

Serving: On tap at the brewpub in a sampler snifter
Served: 14 May 2016

Appearance: Pours a clear orange color, much different than the standard 'New England IPA', which was a bit nice to see. Crowned with a persevering white head that left lacing even in the sampler glass.

Smell: Soft citrus a pine notes, a subtle musk, like wet pine needles, some light passionfruit and tangerine notes.

Taste: Sweet malt core, though one that was not overly dominant. The flavors described in the nose are present here as well, though I found the pine, passionfruit, and tangerine notes more dominant than the muskiness. Subtle bitterness, which was a pleasant surprise.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Quite drinkable, but still felt more substantial than some of the juice bombs.

Overall: A really pleasant IPA that still has some of the New England hop characteristics without being an unfiltered juice monster. A refreshing change of pace and one I would definitely recommend checking out if in the area.

16 oz. can. Hazy orange. Small white head. Smell is citrus and some sharp tropical fruits. Caramel malt without smelling sweet. Taste has an oniony hop flavor. Some citrus. Sharp. Malty again with no sweetness. Bitter and sharp in the finish. Medium body. Low carbonation. Aggressive IPA. I can't say it's my favorite flavor profile, but it still works pretty well.

First beer I've had from this brewery. The can actually caught my eye, noticed it was local which is a plus. Overall I thought this was a solid offering, ordered a log for my kegerator and definitely recommend.

Had on tap. Pours clear, gold in color, with 1/3 inch head. Taste is very herbal, with tea, wet hops, and malty grain. Solid IPA that I could do several of. Interesting IPA that has me curious about other Aeronaut offerings.

Pours a relatively clear copper in color with a finger of long lasting white head. Aroma is on the subdued side but there are notes of pine and floral hops. Taste is very muted as well with a touch of grapefruit and some pine with a decent lingering hop bitterness. Decent mouthfeel with medium body and carbonation. Overall a decent beer but I found the aromas and flavors to be rather muted. Aside from a gentle lingering bitterness I don't get much from this beer.

Served in a pint glass at the Union Brewhouse in Weymouth.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is an orange color with great clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Frothy lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Citrus, herbal, grassy, toasted, biscuity, and pale malts.

Taste: Same as above. Chewy and bitterness in the rear too.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, crisp, refreshing, medium carbonation, a little chewy, and light bitterness.

Overall: A nice IPA. A little less toasted feel could make this beer better.

A: Hazy, dark orange in color with a thick, white and foamy head that dissipates very slowly.
S: Bright tropical citrus notes with hints of pine and floral.
T: Grapefruit pith, hint of orange among other citrus notes.
M: Medium carbonation, slight bitterness, crisp and hoppy finish.
O: Saw a 4 pack in my local liquor store's fridge and decided to get it as it looked interesting (excellent can art!!). Wow, I like it! Definitely is up there with Wormtown's "Be Hoppy", Bldg 8's "The IPA" and that ilk. Try it!

This was a big surprise - heard of these guys but never had their beer. They had a keg going for a charity event I went to in Somerville - some sort of gardening fundraiser - lots of kids and crunchy-looking people. As a result, me and this keg became close friends. Nice citrus smell....piney....and a well balanced malt / hop thing going. Again, wasn't expecting such a good beer. Kudos....hope these guys keep growing. An auction is starting I think for garden items....will be sure to make a hoe joke

Outstanding IPA - so glad Aeronaut is canning and distributing, and this beer has really turned into a go-to for me with it's reasonable ABV, clean citrus flavors and a solid bitterness that holds the proceedings together. Nice, clean dark golden orange pour; it's on the darker and cloudier side but it's not hazy or turbid. Out of the can is a crisp citrus aroma - orange, passion fruit, ripe fruit in general, lightly floral - and a noticeable malt base and the fruit flavors aren't all over the place. It's a nicely balanced beer that's built on a strong foundation of malt and hops. Citrus, piney and floral but not quite juicy - which is neither good nor bad, just depends on your taste. This hits the American style IPA mark perfectly. It's a small shop from New England but it's not a juice or hop bomb. Great execution.

16oz can 2/12/16
Not cold at retail
Golden honey color, a bit of haze
Fresh citrusy hops
Weird, it's like the nice citus flavor comes to a halt half way through the sip. It's not unpleasant by any means, I just want more of that citrus flavor.
Dry bitter finish

I got credit for it from tone77, but it was part of a gift from one of my "Characters" that I passed around to others for their enjoyment & inclusion in their own CANQuest (tm). Many thanks and if you would like to be identified by name, let me know.

From the CAN: "To celebrate our first trip around the sun, we've brewed A Year With Dr. Nandu - a punchy India Pale Ale brimming with Mosaic and Centennial hops. Multiple rounds of dry-hopping create a rich, citrus and passionfruit aroma that we've captured in this pint-sized [CAN]. Each [CAN] tells the story of a season from this past year."; "Sip. Explore. Find adventure."

Another tall boy CAN! I love Crack!ing them open for no other reason than they seem to CANstitute a challenge. I performed a gentle Glug followed by a vigorous swirl to left a finger of foamy, bone-white head that quickly fell back to wisps. Color was solidly Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was much more passionfruit than citrus, but I definitely got both. I would have said mango/papaya, but okay. My mouth was beginning to water. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was fruity, sweet with passionfruit and tart with grapefruit and I was feeling much better as a jonesing hophead after a load of session AIPAs. I really liked the way the flavors of the hops commingled to give it a pleasant flavor that was not too much one way or the other. The finish was dry, certainly, but not gasping. In fact, well after the swallow, I could taste the passionfruit flavor. I feel much better after this one.

Piney, Dank, Pithy, Bold

This is a grownup IPA. While all of the kids are brainwashed into drinking their juicy opaque IPAs, the veteran beer geeks notice the more intricate, well-played out and bold IPAs that don’t try to ride or even desperately keep up with a supposed Northeast—or Vermont—IPA trend. And let's not forget the balance and drinkability; A Year With Dr. Nandu is swimming in it ... just swimming in it. Hunt this one down.

Really nice smell - bright lemony fruits, maybe a dash of lime? Clean, expressive. But really didn't care for the beer that followed - lots of pine and bread, maybe a little chewy, but towards no purpose. More funk than bitter - I didn't manage to finish my glass.

I have a notion the problem, here, is me, and that this beer - which tastes really old school, to me, like, dawn of East coast IPA old school - would be awesome to someone else.

A big thanks to the commander of canned beer, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has an orange/dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus hops, passion fruit. Taste is passion fruit, citrus, medium bitterness, light malts are present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall a tasty and good quality beer.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Appears an amber color with very little head in the glass. Smells of pineapple, mango, and candied fruits. Taste is sweet and crisp like simple syrup and fruit. Bitterness come in the finish and lingers. Leaves the mouth feeling slightly oily. A solid IPA but I prefer the session Nandu.
