Big “psst” when the cap is cracked, as the fine mist of CO2 escapes and ripe fruit starts to fill our noses. Hazy golden color, and the lacing is a sight to see. Thick fruitiness, ripe kiwi and papaya, then some cookie dough and peppery alcohol in the nose. Smoothness rolls over the palate, unfolding complexities. Peppery, earthy, wild herbs, yeasty, marmalade, animal feed grain, pineapple, walnut skin and faint sage, just off the first sip. Warming but very mellow alcohol, with a semidry finish. A down and dirty Tripel here, the flavor makes up for the rawness of it all.

poured into a small chalice.

Hazy gold, white foamy head lacing up nicely.

Sweet fruit and floral hop wafts over a light malt base on the nose.

Medium bodied, nicely balanced sweetness, hops, and abv. Lingering spicy-sweet aftertaste.

Tripels are not usually my favorite but I could have a few of these.

Pours a hazy yellow with a thick, white head that persists surprisingly long.

Aromas are fresh and tart, highlighting citrus, honeysuckle and dry grass with a mineral edge.

Taste is similar the the description of the aroma, with an added malty roundness and light funk that balances the other components nicely.

In was a bit overcarbonated at first but mellows out after a while in the glass, leaving you with a fresh and satisfying long finish. It is one of my favorite Tripels right now.

Pours a medium dark orange amber with a beautiful thick, firm and bold pure white head.

Nose is all huge assertive Belgian candi sugar and esters. Big assertive fresh cooked bananas with undertones of sweet honey.

Mouthfeel is medium rich and lightly creamy with nice balance and character. Feels "high quality."

Flavors are layered and complex. Front palate is sweet malt, sweet fruit and honey that goes to green spice and herb character to a green pepper bitter finish.

This is a rich bold and very flavorful beer. Layers and complexities - something for everyone although if you love big rich malts or you're a hop head, it may not be for you. It is, however, a beautifully balanced brew and may be just about the perfect "middle of the road" drinkable beer.

Poured from the 750ml bottle into a tulip glass. Consume before October 2016 according to notch. Capped bottle, big hiss while opening, no gush.

Roaring on fire of a looker. Deep orange with an almost clear appearance, but with lots of fast rising carbonation and populating the head quickly. Beer looks like it's alive sitting in front of you. Head creation can be large, but a controlled pour makes an easy three finger off white head. Soupy and soapy creamed appearance that has big retention. This doesn't budge at all, quite surprising on a weak looking head makeup, but the classic tripel staying head power is here and huge. Rocky clumping and lacing to match.

Stellar aroma. Floral and spiced honey qualities abound. Slight perfume notes mixing in with wonderful candy store qualities. Hints of real ripping barley malt qualities it seems to, a great smelling tripel.

What an extremely diverse palate. First sip is some mineral carbonation, then a real soft taste of perfumed and blossom honey. Interesting an wild finish. Hints of small nuts almost peanut butter quality, with a big amount of white wine grape like flavors. Huge floral tones are all over this, and with an extremely simple body, which leaves behind syrup and even is lighter than most tripels with a nearly spritzy champagne like body. Juiced grape, low key sweetness and also hinting herbs slightly and peppermint aftertaste.

There's a lot going on in here, its nutty quality is a bit of a wild herring for me, but everything about this brew is just bang on nailed practically with wonderful diverse flavors to explore.

Bottle from Gourmet Haus Staudt. Cloudy copper with a persistent and creamy head. Spicy and peppery on the nose, malty but dry. There's a bit of candi sugar and bubblegum, but it leans toward the dry and spicy side. The palate is understated but quite flavorful, peppery with notes of caramel and ripe fruit, light leafy and grassy hops. Sweetness is restrained, and the finish is quite dry, spicy, moderately bitter. Highly drinkable for the style; a very nuanced and balanced beer with a refreshingly dry mouthfeel.

My bottle, I'm afraid was almost three years past the best-buy date. Arend Tripel had almost no head (just a cream-colored, very thin layer). No lacing to speak of. The aroma was of almost overripe fruit, fruit cake, tropical fruit, candy sugar, and possibly a hint of alcohol. Taste is of all that, with no bitterness or booze. Mouthfeel is medium, and this Arend Tripel finished semi-sweet and seemed quite aged.

A: VERY heady... Took me by surprise. Hazy light golden with some rather large bubbles coming up to add to the billowing head.

S: Salt and pepper potato chips., light almost closer to plain... But potato chip and breadiness. Not much fruity yeasts.

T: There it is again... but a little lemon zest. Lemon pepper potato chips? Weird. I like it, but it is rather odd. More as it warms, bringing out a slightly salty apple.

M + D: Not too bad... Very interesting and bizarre. Nice body, foamy feel... Easy drinking In that sense.

Poured from 750 mL bottle into chalice.
A: Pours a cloudy and carbonated yellow-orange with nice thick frothy white head (~1/2 inch).
S: Fresh yeast, citrus, mineral, and grass notes.
T: Hints of pineapple, honeydew melon, lemon grass, and faint mineral bite. Honestly, a little diluted though.
M: Very smooth. Coats the tongue well. Doesn't linger quite as long as you'd like though.
D: Good drinkability. There are better tripels out there, but this one is a good representative of style.
