I cant believe only one rating on this beer. Time to give some words for folks to read about this one.
Im sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter. The beer pours a slightly cloudy copper color with a billowy fluffy eggshell white head of 4.5 cm that almost overflows my glass. I started a little aggressive but this was mostly very gentle pouring.
The foam is fading slowly with large windowpane lattice on the sides of my glass.
Aroma is some bready yeast notes with a little black peppery spice, maybe some white grape and a little tropical fruit note, but the hop fruitiness is buried by yeast and spices. Pretty nice nose on this brew.
First sip reveals an average body with very fine and tingly carbonation plus a slightly crisp texture. Finish is very dry after each swallow. Nice drinking beer on the physical side of things.
Flavor is similar to the nose with some bready yeast and some white grape almost like a scone mix. Then some black pepper spice and maybe a hint of anice mixed in the background. I dont get any of the light tropical fruit notes, but the white grape comes back on my first burp. The 7% ABV is very well hidden and this is a nice drinking and interesting saison. Glad to have tried it and would recommend if you like the style. Well done Black Hog!
