Drank from a 1 pint 9.4. fl. oz. bottle purchased at OEC Brewing, Oxford, CT
9.18.2019
Served in a tulip

The nearly crystal clear, dark amber liquid was capped by a frothy, finger-tall, cream colored crown that fell to a lasting sheet of bubbles. Streaks of spotty lacing stuck along the glass.

The aroma was intense. Super crisp and dry with a strong powdery yeasty quality. As the head receded, oaky barrel notes came through big time. Quite tart. Loads of wet hay and horse blanket character too. Hint of fruity sweetness. I might guess some type of a cordial barrel treatment, like a brandy or a Port wine. Unfortunately, I did not detect any plum.

The flavor profile was similar to the nose but even more sour. Crackery malts led things off. Big wheaty presence too. Really crisp, dry and snappy. Hint of fruity sweetness. Like the nose, however, I did not get any plum. Lemon-like notes appeared in the center. Super sour and acidic. The tartness and acidity crescendoed as the beer moved along the palate. Big dry, oaky barrel notes and tannins appeared in the finish and lingered after the swallow. Hint of aged hops, must and funk as well.

Medium bodied mouthfeel. Soft and slightly creamy on the palate. The liquid contained a finer beaded, moderate effervescence that fluffed up nicely on the palate. After a few sips, the acid in the beer felt like it was stripping the enamel off my teeth.

Artista Zynergia Plumtastic is an interesting (albeit super tart and acidic) wild ale that closely mimics the complexity one might find in a traditional fruited lambic. It might seem a bit strange that OEC are using an already finished beer and blending it with plums and their own sour ales. Then again, these folks are all about experimenting and pushing limits.

This one pours a golden purplish color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like funky plums, sharp red wine, harsh oak, lemony funk, barnyard funk, and grapes.

This is very, very sour, with loads of plum funkiness and sourness. There's wine and grape, sharp and sour, along with lemony acidity, prickly barnyard funk, and some oak on the back end. It's your classic unapproachable OEC. I love it, but I could see others not caring for this.

This is light bodied, fairly crisp, but not super clean, with a long-lingering acidity on the back end here.

I'm really happy to try this. It's very, very intense, but it works for me.

Had on tap. Pours hazy, copper in color with minimal head. Taste is big plum, oak, light chocolate, and sour mix. Low carbonation, light bodied and slightly sour. Interesting fruit and refreshing. Perhaps the most plum-forward beer I have ever had. First beer from the brewery and it has me curious for more.

very cool beer here, i love this oec stuff, but i do not think its better than the loverbeer offering that is in the blend, it just doesnt improve it, different and delicious as this is. a nice rich purple color, hazy in the glass, with a very active just off white head that really sticks around and responds to a twirl of the teku. plu is a tough fruit to get to come through very vibrantly in beer, but its right there up front in the nose, along with a strong red wine character, tannic and sharp, more clean sour acidity than funky wildness, and a light citrus quality. the flavor is great here, lots off plum fruitiness up front, more body and barrel than i remember in the loverbeer alone, and a lot more sour, this is puckery and sharp, but mellowed by plenty of body and a strong wood influence. white wine notes in the flavor too, lots going on, blackberry, prune, and a appreciable maltiness. it feels rich and bigger, is super well carbonated, and lingers long and sour on the tongue, with a bit of a wild funkiness creeping in as it washes down. the plum is really obvious and standout in this, and i like that a lot. the acidity makes a small glass enough for me. i think this oec blending project is pretty awesome, i would love to know more about it, and i wonder how brewers like loverbeer feel about their beers being meddled with like this. i cant imagine they love it, but maybe i am wrong. the beer speaks for itself though, its delicious!
