750ml bottle - more fruited-up sour Saison from this San Diego brewery to make its way north, much in the manner of my mom, oh so many years ago.

This beer pours a hazy, yet bright medium golden yellow colour (apparently sans floaties, unlike its raspberry brethren), with one finger of weakly puffy, barely foamy, and mostly fizzy off-white head, which leaves zip in the way of lingering lace as it quickly blows off.

It smells of sour milky notes, salty white crackers, musty and grainy wheaten malt, dry mango esters (so, kind of the opposite of those exotic smoothies one finds at yer typical heritage fest), and maybe a hint of weak earthy and leafy green hops. The taste is sharply sour stone fruit - mango, I guess, abetted by yer typical lemon and underripe white grapefruit rind acerbities - battened-down wheaty malt, a touch of indistinct earthy funk, and some plain weedy, leafy, and herbal green hop bitterness.

The carbonation is fairly active in its palate-taunting frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and not particularly smooth, but the offset is hardly egregious, if ya know whut I mean, yeah? It finishes trending dry, sure, but unfortunately bereft of the purported inherent fruit, which has gone off to vacation in warmer climes, it would seem.

Overall, a pleasant, if not exactly mango-oriented fruity sour ale, with the fruitiness taking a hard back seat to the lactic and malty notes herein. No biggie, as the resulting effect is one of an easy to put back Saison, whose yeastiness has perhaps a few weird-ass friends sleeping over.
