Inspired by the fat kid in all of us, the brewers at Listermann unabashedly go to the candy aisle for their sweet, savory and imperialized porter. Marshmallow and peanut butter slathers across a larger-than-life porter for a taste that's a blend of s'mores and peanut buttercups.

Thick, black and juicy with all-things indulgent, the beer's milkshake consistency is evident to the eye. The scent radiates form the glass, drawing in the senses with peanut butter, chocolate and coffee with mesmerizing effects. Lavishly sweet, a strong dessert impression coats the tongue with chocolate, vanilla, sweet cream, peanut brittle and toffee.

And with subsequent sips, the tongue becomes wrapped in a sweet and savory cocoon of espresso, bittersweet chocolate, walnut, hazelnut, peanut and cream. Richly textured, the marshmallow taste and texture has a chewy, saturating character that satisfies the sweet tooth right down to the coffee and kahlua finish.

Full, creamy and velvety, its marshmallow fluff resemblance is uncanny. A long and lavish aftertaste of peanut butter, marshmallow and latte is much more dessert-like than about any food item on the dessert menu. And at its imperial strength, there's win-wins on all fronts for the sweet tooth.

Imperial Porter brewed with peanut butter and marshmallows. Obviously, this beer is inspired by the fluffernutter (and I can't believe I haven't come across a similar beer before now). Poured from a bottle into a Wicked Weed tulip. Pours like Imperial Nutcase: very dark (nearly black) with a perfectly-formed 2 fingers of khaki colored foam. The nose is also a lot like Imperial Nutcase. The same aromas of freshly-roasted peanuts, roasted malt, and dark chocolate.

Drinks a lot like Imperial Nutcase. Firm feel with a medium-full body and the same wonderful flavor. Rich and sweet up front with flavors of molasses, chocolate, and peanuts, then there's some balancing roasted malt bitterness at mid-palate. The peanut flavor doesn't quite seem as strong here. Probably because the roastiness it brings is more offset by additional sweetness than usual. Also, there is a slight sarsaparilla note on the finish along with some dark chocolate.

Really good beer. Not sure it's any better than standard Imperial Nutcase, but the flavor is different enough to at least warrant a look if you like INC and you come across this. I really enjoyed it. It has an interesting balance of flavors: sweet malt and marshmallows, earthy peanuts, and bitter roast.

Looks oily black with a slight lacing. Smells wonderful, like hazelnuts and chocolate and it tastes just like it smells. Not as thick as I expected but a very well balanced stout. Can’t wait to try another.
