A- orange to copper, resembles a Manhattan.

S- get a lot of rye, some sweetness from the cherries and some bourbon/vanilla notes. Some bitterness is evident from the bitters.

T- it's tastes like a carbonated Manhattan, it has the rye flavor, with the tart yet sweet flavor of maraschino cherries, and the bitter taste that comes from the bitters, the bourbon is nicely balanced and adds to the complex nature of this beer.

M- Above average carbonation with a taste only to be rivaled by a Manhattan itself. It tastes like a carbonated Manhattan.

O- What a fantastic beer brewed by the Quaff Brothers, they are not afraid to brew anything and this beer is an example of love of the beer. They captured the Essence of a Manhattan and make it very easy enjoyable for everyone, fantastic beer!

A rye base beer aged in Willet Rye Whiskey barrels finished with orange bitters and maraschino cherries. Poured from a bottle into a Lost Abbey Teku. After the cap came off with a loud hiss, the pour was slightly hazy, reddish-orange with a finger of head that quickly dissolved (not surprising with a barrel-aged beer of this ABV). The nose is quite faint, but I get cherries, alcohol, and the unmistakable sharp, peppery odor of rye whiskey.

Full bodied beer with a luscious, smooth, velvety mouthfeel and a rich flavor. The flavors up front are sweet, malty with lots of toffee and caramel. They are accented by vanilla and oak, fruity hint from the cherries and orange bitters, and just a hint of rye spiciness arriving on the back of the palate. I don't seem to get much hop flavor at all. The alcohol is very evident from the start, but it adds richness to the flavor instead of heat and unpleasant booziness. Still, the beer is not all that drinkable, but for 11.2% ABV it's not bad either. The finish is sustained and leaves a mix of orange bitters, rye spice, and boozy sweetness coating the mouth.

Never had a Manhattan before, but if this is what they taste like then sign me up for manhattanadvocate.com. It drinks like a nice English Barleywine flavored with mulling spices. My one big complaint (and maybe this is true of all Manhattans) is that it could really use more spiciness to help cut through the sweetness some and balance it out more. Still, this another solid effort from Quaff Bros. and Listermann. Their one-off ``Party Source'' beers just keep impressing me.

"Quaff Bros. Manhattan Project is a rye base beer aged in Willet Rye Whiskey barrels finished with orange bitters and maraschino cherries."

Pours a transparent brownish color with a small cap of tannish head. It's a beer, so it's easily distinguishable from a Manhattan, but the color is somewhat similar, just not the clarity and, of course the head. The smell of this beer is amazing. The citrus bitters, rye against the sweetness of the maraschino cherry and sweet vermouth is in great balance. I'm not kidding that this smells just like a Manhattan. Given the goal here, I can't imagine this being any more correct. The taste is similarly impressive. This really blurs the line between beer and cocktail effectively, while still very clearly being a beer. The rye barrels come out more. Much like it smells, this really nails a Manhattan and is probably most impressive in the balance of the rye flavors and the fruit. It's got a pretty full body, though I would have guessed more like 8% while drinking it as it is pretty easy to get down other than the sweetness. My only real quibble is that it is not a beer you want to drink more than half a bomber of before I would imagine you would get sick of it. I would struggle to find anyone attempting to make a beer than replicates a Manhattan doing any better than this. Really impressive.
