Hazy amber color with a nice two finger lingering head. Inviting scents of pine and tropical fruit on the nose. Taste is very balanced with soft to ample hints of pineapple, grapefruit and lime on the front palate, with a smooth, piney finish. Medium mouthfeel with a lightly coating finish. Solid IPA.

Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Beer Nerd 12-oz. tulip
From: Liquor Outlet in Henderson, Nev.
Price: $7.99 for a 6-pack
Purchased: March 7, 2018
Consumed: March 12, 2018
Reviewed as: American IPA
Misc.: Canned on Feb. 2018 (I forgot the date on the package)

Thought I had reviewed this before, but apparently not. Gave it a 4 on Untappd back on Dec. 25, 2016 at their brewery, writing, “4-oz. taster. Oh yeah. Creeping toward a 4.25.” But that was after a few flights at CraftHaus and maybe even a Bad Beat flight (I did have two of those as well). Anyway, after buying the six-pack and drinking the first five, I didn’t think it was quite as good. Will review it like it was the first time. Description read, “This ain’t your dad’s IPA, but maybe he’ll like it, too. Generously hopped with Cascade and Chinook hops, and a pinch of Citra, this beer has a crisp, dry finish that will leave you begging for more. If you think this beer isn’t hoppy enough, it’s you, not us.”

Poured a semi-hazy straw color with 2-to-3 fingers of off-white rocky head. Lots of fast moving bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. World-class even layered foamy lacing. Excellent foamy retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled pine, dish soap, grapefruit, Cascade, orange and lime zest. More pronounced from the can with pineapple, grapefruit, pine and Citra. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose. Got pine, grapefruit, pineapple, Cascade, green leaf, lingering peppery spice (probably Chinook), bitter orange rind, dish soap and lime zest. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt piney finish. (Feel - 4.00)

This was not quite as good as I thought and I probably overrated it, but still outstanding. (Overall - 4.00)

Pours a slightly cloudy/hazy orangish yellow golden color with white head. Citrus, pine, and some tropical fruits on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with citrus and pine.

Good sized head that leaves behind a full curtain of lacing. Beer itself is dark yellow, orange, hazy thing. Nose deals in pepper, green onion and a twist of lemony orange. Taste punches through with a nondescript tartness that almost immediately gives way to a very abrasive, earthy, pungent bitterness that transfers more dandelion than anything else. Mouth feel is monster bitter in a medium bodied dry finish beer. If I were bellying up to a bar in Vegas, I'd be pretty good with some draws of this.

A nice solid, fruity IPA with a lot of citrus and pine. The aroma is lots of pineapple and orange with a hint of pine and a good dose of sweetness. The flavor is lightly sweet with citrus, pineapple and pine. A little aggressive on the bitterness but all in all this is a nice beer.

Picked this up in a can as a shot in the dark, as the "Proudly Brewed in NV" didn't inspire much confidence. Also the word PINE printed at the top of the can seemed a little aggressive even though it was an IPA. The $7.99 for a six pack overcame any doubts I may have had. I don't know much about mouth feel or IBU's, but this a delicious winner. It really does give Stone a run for it's money. Yes it is a little unsophisticated and brash at the end, but I really like it. It's 7% alcohol which I guess is pretty standard for IPA's. It's a beer for big boys and girls who know where they're going.
