Poured a golden-y yellow with little head. Called a "seasonal" at the Lodge, I was expecting something a little more interesting. It seemed lightly-colored for a dubbel. It's aroma was slightly malty and perhaps something else, but the flavor was ALL malt--too much for me. It made the brew sour on my tongue and wasn't very great. It definitely seemed too thin for a double. I guess it was drinkable but it was just too boring to want to do so.

Served in a oversized wine glass, this brew appeared dark amber brown with about a finger of white head that dissipated after a few sips. Aroma came out as the beer warmed with the expected bready malts and yeast. Also present in the nose were some warm spices. Flavor was impressive and really showed its better qualities as the beer warmed. The taste started out full and malty, and that breadiness stuck around and mixed with subtle sweetness. Towards the finish, a hint of slightly acidic fruit cropped up. Moutheel was full and creamy, medium carbonation. Spicy hops also presented a little bitter citrous, but did not last. Finish was soft and creamy with slight lingering spice. Definitely one to check out at the Redwood.

Sample at the brewpub (as Dubbel): This beer is a clear golden color with a medium and foamy white head. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma is spicy and hoppy. Light-bodied and crisp with a mild spice flavor, along with some malt and yeast. The finish is lightly bitter and lingers a bit. Slightly above average overall.
