Appearance -- Poured black, thick head that very very slowly dissipated.

Smell -- Strong coffee right on the nose, subdued barrel.

Taste -- Roasted coffee on the front, barrel coming through right behind. Some lingering bitter chocolate in the mix too.

Feel -- Slightly thin, lacing in glass isn't bad at all, but flows off the tongue quick.

Overall -- Simply a great beer IMO. I'm a huge coffee stout fan so I'm a bit biased, but this is top notch to me. The non barrel regular version of this is very good, and the barrel just enhances it. If you can find it, definitely worth picking up.

Sampled at THT June tasting. Dark brown with a thin espresso head. Tons of coffee in the taste, coffee liquor, roasted malts. Medium body with low carbonation and a coffee roasty aftertaste.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours nearly pitch black, opaque in the glass with very slight visible carbonation, leaving a slender ring of bubbles around the glass. Aroma of dark toasted malt, chocolate, fresh coffee, oaky vanilla. Flavor is slightly sweet dark toasted malt, quality coffee, vanilla and hints of char and hops. Finishes with oaky malt, coffee; a little boozy. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess and good carbonation, despite the near still pour. A really fine imperial coffee stout. The coffee is distinct with flavors from top notch fresh coffee beans. The base malt is rich and supports both the coffee and barrel flavors very well. It could use a little char to the malt to suit my taste, but the coffee adds a little earthy smokiness to make up for it. One sign of a well made adjunct stout is that the flavor is robust from start to finish and it is here. Nice coffee and chocolate notes integrated from start into a lingering finish. Well done; I'll watch for more from this brewery.

real nice label, gold waxed bottle

22oz into a perfect stout glass

wow this guy looks great in the glass, huge dark chocolate head. this guy means business

nose is mostly coffee, tons of coffee, all types of coffee and a hint of with some whiskey sweetness.

taste is the same, tons of coffee, roasted coffee, fresh espresso, burnt coffee. pretty impressive anount of coffee. first few sips it is abrasive, but as it warms it comes together really well. real great chocolate come sup with lots of whiskey notes. sweetness starts cutting the roast really well. finished sweet with vanilla and oak. reminiscent of bcbcs

mouthfeel is thick, coats the tongue and each sip lingers. abv is well hidden.

overall the nice flavor makes me drink this guy a bit too fast. great coffee coming through through. as it warms it really opens up into a fantastic beer!

Appearance – Two finger head on a nearly opaque clear brown body.

Aroma – Cold brew coffee, roasted malts, faint oak, slightly fruity.

Taste – Coffee, bitter oak, strongly boozy with rye whiskey notes. Definitely a sipping beer, very strong.

Mouthfeel – Full and viscous, yet it didn't linger after the swallow.

Overall – WOW this is a big beer. Amazing and worth the price at least once.

I don't know if my palate was off when I tried this beer back in 2015 when it was fresh or if Four Father made that much improvement to the 2016 vintage. This beer is very comparable to Bourbon County Coffee; if not a better beer because the coffee is so big in the 2016 vintage of BA Wheelhouse. It seems like GI is skimping on the coffee the last few years of BCBCS. I may have found a much less hyped / higher quality substitute for Bourbon County Coffee? I hope so... Tired of waiting in lines on Black Friday for Bourbon County.

A really high-quality BA coffee stout with a lot of oak and barrel character. I've had a lot of fantastic coffee stouts already this winter, but this holds its own. The nose has a lot of whiskey, wood, and vanilla along with the expected coffee and roasted malts. The flavor is explosive, loaded with fudge, roasted nuts, and cappuccino. Thick and syrupy, with a long, chocolate-y finish.
