Dark brown body; opaque; thin yet creamy light khaki colored head. Sweet, mildly herbal aroma; light chocolate and cocoa undertones. Wonderfully balanced and rich flavors; cocoa with hints of milk chocolate; Greek red wine; herbal flavors; grassy. Heavy body; silky and slick; oily sludgyiness; huge residual sugar texture.

Called an English barleywine, yet this beer goes way beyond that description. The beer is dense and incredibly complex. It plays with elements of milk chocolate, rye, and dominating red wine notes. In a blind beer tasting, I would have guessed the style to be an imperial barrel-aged porter or stout of some sort. Regardless. this beer is a killer, complex and satisfying on many levels.

Bottle. Tan head. Dark brown, nearing black.

Thick, cloying in a bad way. This is hardly BW. Some rye spice. Cherry, cocoa, and metallic notes. I wouldn’t even be able to guess this is a BW. Boozey. Caramel and toffee. This is going down the drain.

Rich, malty, sweet barleywine. The barrel comes through, but is not overpowering. It is really sweet for a barleywine - personally too sweet for my tastes. Lots of dark candied fruits and sugars. Still a delicious sipper I am glad I got the chance to have.
