Beer is stout black with a huge head of light brown bubbles. Had trouble keeping the foam down even with a slow pour.
Aroma is like burnt coffee with some hints of chocolate and molasses. Sharp flavor of roasted barley and bitter hops subsides to sweeter malt and a dry hop finish.
An interesting stout, but not one of my favorites.

The pour a piceous color with a smallish head that is frothy and tan in color, the resultant lace a fine silk like sheet to smother the glass. Nose is that of finely toasted grain, sweet and refreshing and the start malt laden and somewhat sweet, top is moderate in its feel to the palate. Finish is biting in its acidity, the hops pleasingly spicy, aftertaste bittersweet and somewhat dry, a fine drinking stout me thinks.

Deep brown, with hazy crimson hues when held to light. A vigorous pour produces a thin, spotty dark beige head that yields isolated foam aggregates. Deeply burnt, sharp, carbonized unmalted barley dominates the aroma, and is accompanied by secondary notes of bittersweet baker's chocolate and unexpected mild pearish esters. Clean, firm roasted grain bitterness incipient in flavor widens into a combination of functional, non descript hop bitterness and a mellow chocolate presence. Agreeably lithe fruitiness of a vaguely pruneish nature emerges mid palate and lends a blurred bitter cocoa dusted dark fruit contrast. Lightly bodied and soft on the palate, with an abruptly fluid, but crisp mouthfeel. Finishes clean, with hints of smokey charcoal balanced with stately, simple residual sweetness. A unique, refreshing, superbly drinkable dry stout with more ester character than the norm. With a fuller malt backbone this could be excellent. Thanks to Bennybrew for sending another tasty Maine brew.

Another fine brew from Maine Coast. Pours a deep black but not opaque as there is a fair bit of ruby coloring towards the bottom. The top was a finger thick cafe au lait head that receded into a sort of frothy milk bubble lacing. Smell was roasty, full of coffee smells and a good dosage of hops to boot. Further down the glass a more sweet profile emerged with some brown sugar and mollasass. Taste was chalky and charcol like with a nice bittering hops finish and a healthy dose of sweetness thrown into the mix. Aftertaste was plenty dry. Mouthfeel was excellent and creamy. Silk like as it passed down my throat. Very quaffable.

12oz bottle from a Xmas gift sampler of Maine brews from my friend Joe. Thanks!

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a small 1/4" tan head above the opaque dark brown/black brew. Head is relatively short lived, fading down to an uneven layer of bubbles, and lacing is average to good. Aroma is deep, dry, dark grains. Taste is sweet dark malts upfront, tends to a slight sour bent for second in the middle, and closes dry on the tongue. Mouthfeel is nice, goes down well, possibly because it seems a bit thin, and drinkability is great. A nice session dry stout here.

True to the name the color was pitch black but I had to drop the appearance drinkability scores based on the excess foam in the pour they gave to me.

The taste was nice and had a long finish on the tongue. If you do not care for the taste of roasted malt then this may not be the drink for you. The roasted taste was strong ewnough to remind me of the smoky flavor in really nice scotch.

Get the carbonation worked out and this is a 4+ good beer.

Pours a brown, five-finger+ head that goes slowly and leaves a chunks of lace. Black color. Explosive carbonation and light bodied. Roasted coffee nose. Starts and finishes dry (the only part that is "Irish style") almost watery but with a good roasted coffee flavor. $2.13 for a 12oz bottle from Bayside Liquors Bar Harbor, Me.

This is a quality go at the dry Irish variety. The aroma and initial flavor is of a dry roasted malt profile. The solid body supports the flavors well and brings through a touch of balanced bitterness in the finish.

Drank at Jack Russell's Restaurant, adjacent to the brewery. Poured a near-opaque black with a thin tan head, but when held to the light it had dark red highlights. The head left a decent lacy curtain on the pint glass, but it dissipated as it crept down the sides.

Smelled nice, roasted malts (obviously), something grilled (I agree with the reviewer who detected charcoal). You know; like an irish stout. A little nutty, a little burnt. Also tasted good; a biggish roasted nut flavor with a little char, a little choc in there, but pretty smooth. A quality stout.

My biggest reservations were in the mouthfeel area -- not dry enough for an Irish stout. The medium body never dried up for me -- i found the finish too oily for the style. Still, a drinkable, tasty stout from a small Maine brewer.

Pours an opaque ink black with a thick mocha-colored head that exhibited a nice cascade and lasted. Aromas of coffee and roasted malts with a milky sort of smell on the side. The mocha coloring in the head is mirrored by a mocha character in the tase, along with dark roasted coffee flavors and a nice hop presence to balance. Flavors are predominant up front, as the finish goes fairly dry. Body is maybe a shade thinner than the appearance would lead one to expect. On the whole, an enjoyable stout.

Pours black with ruby highlights. Big tan creamy lacy head. Head dissipates but lace remains. Smells like a dry stout. Dry and smoky with hints of bitter dark malt.

Tastes nutty and then bitter burnt malt. Coffee undertones. Very burnt malt. A nice bitter, dry finish.

Well balanced and smooth. Very very good. Must get me some more before winter sets in.
