One of the best fruit beers I've had. Sweet, but not overpowering.

Had on tap at the brewery

Appearance: clear, low carbonation, no head, dark gold

Smell: sweet blueberries

Taste: blueberry and light toasted malt

Mouthfeel: sweet, medium-light bodied, with low carbonation

Overall: Not the most complex brew, but it delivers where it says it will deliver. Nice fresh blueberries with a solid beer taste. Very enjoyable. I will grab another pint of this when I return.

Poured on-tap at Jack Russell's, the beer was served in a shaker pint. The beer is a bright yellow-gold coloring with a filmy, low profile, white surface coating. Nose of tart/sweet blueberry, with a grainy and buttery backbone. Flavors of toast forward, with blueberry overlays, and an overall richly sweet profile. Light, smooth body, with a slowly receding blueberry sweet aftertaste. Clean, smooth finish. Light in body and in flavor, which leaves it lacking a bit.

Pours a cream, five-finger+ head that goes very slowly and leaves a chunks of lace. Amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Strong bluberry nose. Starts sweet, blueberry flavor is not overwhelming, dry finish with some hops barely lingering. $2.13 for a 12oz bottle from Bayside Liquors Bar Harbor, Me.

In general, I HATE fruit in my beer. This was one my wife ordered and I ended up drinking enough to write a review. I dont think it truly qualifies for lambic since it is made by adding blueberry juice but I have gotten into the habit of thinking about this beer in that fashion.

This was a well crafted ale with a deep amber color and an aroma of blueberry that was apparent without picking up the glass. The mouthfeel was a bit odd but maybe this is a lambic-style thing that I am just not used to.

Interestingly, I did not get much blueberry taste but the berries came through in the aftertaste loud and clear. I think if you are a fan of lambic beers then this will be a good buy.

Upon hearing that a major ingredient in this beer was blueberry syrup, I was a bit skeptical about Maine Coast's ability to avoid a brew that was more blueberry juice than beer. In actuality, I was pleasantly suprised when I returned home from Jack Russell's and tried this beer. The color was practically purple...at the very least, a deep copper. The small head had decent retention and minimal carbonation was apparent. The smell was virtually all blueberries, with some hops peeking through after some swirling and wafting. I was suprised by the balance in the taste. I expected to taste too much blueberry, but the semi-sweet malt and nice hops addition rounded out the obvious blueberry taste. The finish was clean and crisp. The lighter/medium body had a subtle fizziness, somehow fitting for the fruit beer style. Overall, this was a fairly well-crafted fruit beer, and so far remains one of the exceptions to my general opionion of most beers I've had in this style.

Sampled from 12oz bottle

Appearance: brown color, huge, huge head with lots of lacing

Smell: Blueberries you can smell across the room, quite literally. We poured two glasses and you could smell them sitting back on the couch with the glasses on the other side of the table. When you get closer you get scents of wild flower and sweet malt, but Blueberry still dominates

Taste: Ok, very dry malt with blueberry flavor. The wife loved it, I thought it was ok

Mouthfeel: Sticky sweet and dry finish

Drinkability: One, maybe two..no more

The color a translucent burnished copper color, the head frothy and light tan also modest in stature with the lace a velum like sheet to coat the glass. Nose is blueberry sweet, fresh, crisp and quite pleasing to the senses, start is nicely malted and somewhat sweet, top is thin. Finish is mild in its carbonation, hops subdued and the taste of blueberries quite evident though out, drinkable, and pleasant enough, but a bit to thin-waisted to get much respect from me.

Interesting.Pours with a noticeably foamy head and nice aroma. The blueberry taste is very subtle, but I noticed a whiff of green peas. Don’t know why. Still, I found it to be a pleasant beer with a more subtle fruit taste. I think I could like the blueberry beers.

Pours a surprising ruby red. Clear with a small white head. Smells strongly of blueberries but not overpoweringly sweet. Light malt aromas.

Taste is very nice! Not what I was expecting after the aroma. Bitter and tart, not syrupy sweet like so many fruit beers. Creamy malt. Low carbonation with the blueberry bitterness coming through and finishing with a light sweet flavor. Bluebery flavors actually complement the beer and don't drown it out. (Imagine that!) A nice medium bodied ale. I like the taste of the darker malt with the bluberries in contrast to other fruit beers that have light wheat malt. This one actually stands up well to the bluberries.

I would put this blueberry ale right up there with Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale as two beers that have mastered this style. Head and shoulders above the rest.

Deep copper in color with very little head. There's alot of sediment suspended throughout.
The aroma reminds me of Bubble Yum bubble gum. Very sweet, fruity and juicy.
The flavor is a muted version of the aroma. (and thankfully so, as enticing as the aroma is, I couldn't imagine a beer tasting that much like Bubble Yum.) The beer is actually very dry and a bit tart. It sweetens just a bit toward the end & the flavors come out a bit stronger too.
Thin body and carbonation is almost nil.
A different, but refreshing beer.

Appearence is very attractive although how cool would it be if it actually poured blue? It didn't. Instead it poured a ruddy red with a very off white head. Some spidery lace down the side of the glass. From someone who works closely with blueberries this beer did not smell much like them. It smelled more like artificial bubble gum or childrens cough syrup. Not particularly pleasant. Taste was interesting. Bennybrew tells me this is the same recipe for the Brown Ale with blueberry added. The beginning of the taste was good as there was a fair bit of profile that you could find in the Brown with the blueberry spicing it up a little. But the finish was way too astringent and bitter, but not in a hops kind of way. Mouthfeel was very decent although it lacked the carbonation I was expecting. Decent brew, but I will let the tourists marvel in this one. There are much better brews to be found on Mt. Desert Island.

Wow—what a huge blueberry aroma! The very first thing I noticed as I was pouring the beer was the odd purpley hue, which I guess I should have expected from a blueberry ale. It looked exactly like you’d expect a pale ale would look if you added blueberries to it. The off-white head had pretty good staying power and kept cranking out that blueberry aroma; it smelled like the blueberry syrup at IHOP…

The flavor is faint at first, and then the blueberries come surging in, like a slow but steady tide. The malt sweetness seems to creep in just behind the fruit, sweetening out the overall sensation. The mouthfeel is fairly thin, but it seems like the goal is to showcase the blueberries, which I’d say this beer accomplished handily. I might prefer a built more malt flavor in the mouth: perhaps some aromatic or biscuit malt so that this beer would taste more like a blueberry cookie or pancake. Still, if you’re a blueberry lover, or a fruit beer lover in general—here’s your beer!

This poured out sort of a rich dark pumpkin color. The smell of blueberries was overwhelming.

It had a strong blueberry flavor, but the taste seemed a bit thin, not a lot of body to it. It improved as I drank it, although I did note a bit of a metallic aftertaste, not sure what this might have come from.

I guessed on the style, and don't know the ABV, sorry.
