Had heard the buzz for a few years and finally had a chance to drop in. So glad I did. I’d just be repeating all the other reviews but will still throw out that owner Mike is the kinda guy you always want to know, period. But having him steward his craft shelves, coolers and taps the way he does in such a comparatively smaller shop is a credit to him, and a blessing to all of us. I’m fortunate enough to hit some of the best beer stores in the country... Mike’s little Auburn shop reminds me of Beer Temple in Chicago. No lie. The selection is a great combination of big time craft beers regardless of locale, but a very healthy and discerning treasure trove of regional beers... In this case NY beers from NYC, east, central, south and western NY. Like Beer Temple... you can talk with a shared passion; sip some beers ; learn something... and load a frig or suitcase. In this case I had Mike pick me 8 beers tied to my preferences, and grabbed 2 of each. Went through them all over a few days and enjoyed each. Some were great and one from Aurora brewing was outstanding.
Side note ... having Thirsty Pug and Prison City brewing/ pub easily makes Auburn a destination town. Have recently met more than a few people who have known this for awhile... and I’m just latest to join the choir. Big thumbs up!

Really nice selection for such a small place in such a small town. Owner had a Grimm shirt on so I knew it would be good from the get-go.

Great little store! Not a huge selection but everything is quality. No mass produced swill. Nice mix of local and imported beers. Very knowledgeable owner.

Cool little spot here in downtown Auburn, NY.
Good vibe with other beer enthusiasts present, but somewhat limited by the small space and general arrangement. Excellent quality beers on tap and in bottles/cans, but somewhat limited by size of the facilities, while still respectable. All unique craft beers, with no lost space to "pedestrian" offerings. Cool "bar tender" with good beer knowledge

All about quality here. No garbage convenience/grocery store beers to soft through just a solid election sorted by style. This makes the shopping experience so much easier and enjoyable. You might find some good beers at wegmans on occasion but you'll ALWAYS find something good at thirsty pug. Mike is extremely knowledgeable and helpful when looking for a suggestion. Have something from his great tap selection while you browse. Worth the drive from 'Cuse or wherever you're coming from.

If you really care about finding quality craft beer in the Syracuse/Finger Lakes area then this is your spot. Owner is super knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk beer with. Store does a great job of selling fresh, properly stored beer. They also had by far the best selection I have seen in the Syracuse area. I love that they have 8-10 draft lines usually pouring pretty hard to find stuff so you can grab a couple beers in store or take a growler to go. It's definitely a must stop for me when in Upstate NY now.

Wow! The remodel has turned a great establishment into something truly amazing. The awesome fresh vibe of this place, coupled with the new ability to obtain poured drinks here, makes it far and away the best place in town to get good beer. Having a place like this in my hometown, makes me feel like I live in a real city, with some semblance of culture.

Where do I start .... The owner has a wealth of knowledge led by his passion for beer. He's been instrumental in not only stocking favorite brews of mine, but actually expanding my palette into other styles I wouldn't have considered previously. There's always a great whale of a beer in his stock and runs great specials. Do yourself a favor and swing through The Thirsty Pug sooner rather than later!

Auburn, NY Gem. The quality (not quantity, he doesn't even carry BMC) will match any store I've been in. Great selection, owner is passionate about beer, always running specials, and does frequent tastings. It would be hard to justify a beer store as being worthy of a road trip, but I'd say this is as close as you'll get. This store could fit comfortably into any major city, lucky to have it in Auburn.

Great new place in downtown Auburn. A little tricky to find, located in the Genesee Mall (behind Mesa Grande). It's tiny, but it packs a punch. The owner, Mike, is extremely hands on. Knowledgeable and eager to assist your shopping experience. Overheard him educating a wine drinker on what beers they might enjoy based on wines they liked. Another surprise? No BMC. At all.
Only open 2 weeks or so, but they've had Cigar City Jai Alai available twice. Obviously, it goes fast. Furthermore, they were raffling off various cans of Alchemist beers to shoppers (entry with $10 purchase). I missed out on that, but damned good way to reward your customers without being a total whore about it.
Great selection for a small place. Reminds me of a mini Craft Beer Cellar. Very much worth a stop.
Cheers!
