From a bomber into a Perfect Pint glass, this one is a nearly clear bright yellow color with no real head and a few bubbles percolating up. It looks amazingly like ordinary white wine. Nose is slightly boozy with honey notes and a bit of acidic fruit like maybe apple juice. There’s also a sort of funky fruit smell similar to scuppernong which I suppose is the mango. In the mouth it’s on the sweet side with a mild honey flavor, a bit of vanilla and notes of amaretto. There’s a bit of an apple juice aftertaste with no real hops bitterness, but a hint of alcohol at the end, or maybe that’s the pepper. Mouth is thin with no crispiness from carbonation. Overall, it’s tasty but nothing special. I’m not a huge fan of herb/vegetable beers, and this one isn’t bad, but also it isn’t great. It doesn’t really come out to much of anything more than a somewhat sweet, flat, mildly curious “beer.” Would not seek out again.

* Edit - Upon re-reading my review, YES I know what mead is and have even brewed some many moons ago. This does not taste like mead to me, more like a mildly spiced, flat honey beer. Unspectacular.

Decanted from a 16.9 oz (500 ml) bottle into a custom taster pint; coded 705/01/18, guessing this is produced May of 2018.
A: Pours a crystal clear, straw color with essentially no head or lacing, but really cool, tiny, tiny bubbles.
S: Mango and honey front and center, but aromas of lemon-lime and moscato also in play.
T: Sweet. Like nose, mango, honey, and perhaps chardonnay grapes were all in play. Black pepper very evident at the back end of the swallow and throat.
M: Light bodied with light, tiny, tiny bubble carbonation. The bubbles appear smaller than champagne bubbles.
O: Never cared much for mead, but this is a truly enjoyable, truly flavorful experience. Also a crowd pleaser around my place. Would definitely look to try it again. Gorgeous.

I have very little litmus to judge this mead. What I can do, however, is judge it based on its own merits. It poured a pallid straw in the glass with no head and ethereal effervescence. My first whiff was pure honey, but not sickeningly so. I let it rest, swirled and was then greeted by the mango and pepper. On the palate, it was like a dessert wine. I felt none of the carbonation, but was greeted to the elegant honey and just a hint of mango and spice. Overall extremely well done. Hail to the king, baby!
