It's definitely the barrel aged version cus it says so on the label.

Pours u-u-u-U-LTRA black, a bit too fizzy, with a large and tumbling tan head.

Smells bourbony, very alcoholic, some red wine and some chocolate and malt but mostly loads and loads of booze.

Tastes... really good. Not nearly as intense as I was expecting. Whiskey starts thing out, albeit much lighter than the aroma, moving into a middle of chocolate malt, generic stout barley, and over ripe grapes. It's an unique blend, very intense (even for an RIS) but also very drinkable.

I feel like if this had come out before Stone's RIS and Rogue's and Dark Lord and all them, this would have become an archetype of the style. It's unique within stylistic expectations and well put together, the sort of thing that would have turned heads just a few years ago, but today it just don't quite cut it as an elite imperial stout.

Tan head. Black color.

Aroma is booze.

Taste is kind of like BCBS. Roasted malts and chocolate with a a nice big bourbon kick. Oak and vanilla. A touch of booze.

Full bodied. Nice carbonation and finish is warm. Solid!

look: Almost completely opaque dark brown. Thick mocha head on the pour that recedes to a ring around the glass.
smell: Vanilla, bourbon, and dark fruit.
taste: Very rich, roasty, bourbon, vanilla, and caramel.
overall: Stellar brew from Orpheus.

22oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 13.99. No bottling date but just released in the past couple weeks (09/15). Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours pitch black with a finger and a half of deep mocha head. The foam shrinks back to a thin ring that persists without leaving any lace behind.

Smells of dark fruit, bourbon, cocoa and oak. Seems richer with more pronounced dark fruit as it warms.

Flavor is a mix of bourbon, candy sugar, dark chocolate, heavily roasted malts, stone fruit, burnt caramel, raisin, semi sour cherry skins along with some considerable booze heft. While it is admittedly a bit hot, the strong flavors go a long way in keeping this beast quite drinkable.

Full, creamy feel with moderately soft carbonation. Bitter roast, dark fruit and bourbon linger in a long aftertaste.

The first barrel aged release from Orpheus is some good stuff. The barrel aging balances and enhances The 12th Labor in a great way. The bourbon sweetness and smooth oak round out the boozey, bitter roasty base. With quality like this from a relatively new local brewery it will be exciting to see what they have in the works.

Black and thick with minimal head. Smell is very similar to BCBS (which is a very good thing) with lots of rich bourbon and chocolate. Taste is different however with tons of roast, char, burnt sugar and of course more bourbon and cacao. Mouthfeel is quite thick. Alcohol is well hidden even at 13%. An excellent beer.

Enjoyed on tap in a 10 oz snifter.
2017 Vintage.

In the glass, pitch black. Absolutely nothing would survive. Total darkness. Not a head to be seen. Beautiful beer.

The 12th Labor smells of huge chocolate and even more huge bourbon notes, roasted malts, and a touch of that soy sauce aroma. Mentioned below BCBS is a good comparison.

Tastes even better than it smells, rich chocolate, bourbon is even more present and the barrel lends a vanilla note.

Such a smooth beer for being 13.9% dangerously drinkable, the booze is there but doesn't deter your next sip.

If this was more widely available I think it would be immensely sought after, it's honestly one of the better stouts I've enjoyed. I'd put this up against DL or any stout for that matter. Proud ATL produced something this great.

My first BBA beer from Orpheus and I have to say it was darn good. Great vanilla and bourbon flavor. For this being one of their first BBA beer the viscosity of the beer is thick and rich. I'm really looking forward to more stouts from them.
