On tap at 2nd anniversary. This was the Sunday version without vanilla beans in the barrel.

L: Pure black with a persistent tan head. Almost looks like it was on nitro.

S: Chocolate, caramel, vanilla, bourbon

T: Follows the nose. Everything so well integrated. Surprising how much vanilla comes out from the Ferryman part of the blend. Sweet, but balanced by just enough bitterness. If I'm being picky, I'd like a touch more barrel.

F: Perfect. Thick and velvety.

O: Wow

2020 vintage. Pours thick and syrupy with virtually no head until pouring the dregs at the bottom of the bottle. Smells decadent, baker's chocolate and vanilla buttercream. Light oak tartness for barrel character, with some bourbon spice, honey, and boozy heat on the mid-palate. Soft and smooth on the tongue, but not as thick as the pour suggests, avoiding the tooth-coating viscosity of trendy pastry stouts. Well executed.

Appearance - The beer poured it deep black color with a tan head crowning the glass.

Smell - The vanilla came through in a big way in the nose. Chocolatey barrel notes were lying in wait.

Taste - There was so much vanilla here. It did not come over as perfumey or artificial. Balancing well with barrel notes, the vanilla was nearly perfectly balanced. As the taste progresses, dark chocolate is evident and back.

Mouthfeel - The beer had such a smooth body that complements the vanilla perfectly. In my estimation, It would be hard to produce a better mouthfeel.

Overall - I was super impressed by this beer. It is top-of-the-line for vanilla stouts.

Draft pour to snifter, near black, no head or lacing. Faint nose of vanilla, some wood and bourbon. Bourbon and wood really come through on taste and meld well with the roasted malts and vanilla. Hints of molasses. A bit boozy in a very good way. Heavy and silky body with mild carbonation.
