Yellow pour, ample clarity, lots of white lush head well over 1". Aroma was mild, bready, lemon, spritzy, kind of the usual kolsch edge.

Taste had that light body and minimal citrus feel. Noble hops, standard affair stuff.

A: Hazy orange in color with a small white head. The beer has decent head retention and lacing.

S: Smells of lemon zest, orange peel, biscuits, honey, and a light piney hops. It also has a similar smell I get in Boston Lager.

T: Tastes similar to boston lager. Bready malt with citrus notes orange and lemon that finishes with mildly bitter piney hops. Pine is more apparent in the aftertaste.

M: Medium bodied, medium carbonation, refreshing, and easy drinking.

O: Overall it's a decent sessionable beer. I wouldn't seek it out myself but I'd order it at any local or franchise bar.

Cleaning out the SA notes, nice light straw appearance with tons of champagne like carbonation and head formation. Aroma was neutral.

Taste, a little dry, mildly bitter, lemon at times, reminiscient of SN's summerfest but with even less hop character. Probably noble/tettenang. Always a light body, the mineral water sweetness isn't really for me. But nothing is really hit or miss here. Its just another beer that may or may not come back again, if it does, its pretty comparable to the new branded Alpine Spring.

A: Hazy orange color with a thin off white head. Some faint lacing.

S: Wheat, hints of banana, orange, lemon and a bit of lime.

T: Wheaty orange flavor with hints of spice and banana. A bit too mild for my taste. Nothing about this beer excited me.

Old review, originally sampled 7/19/2004. Golden, light-bodied and topped with a medium white head and a little bit of lacing. Fruity aroma and flavor with only a little bit of hops to it. I was a little disappointed but it's plenty refreshing to get the job done.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into an imperial pint glass.
Since this beer is retired, I was very surprised to find this bottle mixed among a bunch of other singles on the bottom shelf of a cooler in a tiny local liquor store.

A: The beer is a medium gold with an orange tint, has a short white head that fades quickly and doesn’t leave much lace on the glass

S: The aroma is of caramel, honey, spice and hops.

T: The taste is very sweet with flavors of honey and spice. You can taste a decent, but not strong hops background.

M: Crisp and smooth with a light-to-medium body, light carbonation with a clean finish. Most beers that have the type of sweetness that this one does, will leave some stickiness behind but I’m not feeling that here.

D: It’s light and goes down very easy. Like many other Sam Adams beers, it’s one that I could go with for a while.

Given that this beer has been retired and replaced as the Sam Adams spring release by the White Ale, I can help but compare the two, even though they are from completely different styles. While this is a decent beer, I prefer the White Ale.

Samuel Adams Spring Ale pours to a deep golden hue with just a touch of amber. It also offers a large, healthy head that remains intact as I slowly drain my glass. The aroma is of a sweet, malty sort. After a second sniff, I can detect a hint of spicy hops and a slight earthy smell. The magic of Samuel Adams Spring Ale is in the taste, however. When this exquisite brew flows through your lips the initial flavor, like the smell, is earthy and reminiscent of peat. A delicate, fruity taste then presents itself and coats your mouth with a unique tart sweetness. As you swallow this tasty ale, you will notice a slight bitterness on the back of your tongue as a result of the hops. The overall finish is exceptionally clean; one of the many positive aspects of this outstanding beer.

This was a rich, light amber ale with a relatively short head. It looked well carbonated and sparkling.

The aroma was of light hops... I would have preferred a little more. Traces of pine and citrus.

There were crisp hops in the foretaste, and it was slightly sweet, mellowing fast. A very fresh-tasting beer. Quite nice.

good all around beer, moderatly bodied, suits the spring time atmosphere, nice and refreshing, not overpwoering, better then the summer lager, it's a depressing tiem each year when the spring is phased out and the summer is introduced, but i guess absence makes the taste buds grow fonder and every spring i'm delighted to see it's return.

Appearance: A nice golden with a small haze, it was still clear but with a slight haze to it. There was a decent white head that left a nice lace.

Smell: Smell was spicy with some sweetness to comliment it.

Taste: Very sweet with a nice spiciness. There were sweet fruits and fresh spices. As I got closer to the bottom the brew seemed to get sweeter.

Mouthfeel: A good consistency with mild carbonation to help make the texture more interesting.

A very drinkable Kolsh. The first Kolsh I actually enjoyed. Very Nice.

This had a sort of average pale color with a creamy white head that left quite quickly. A layer of foam stayed across the top though. Aroma was of a crisp brew and some spicyness as well. The body to this beer was light and flavors did not jump out individually but they mixed together so well. Bready base malt with some citric notes. Hops were unique in their profile. They were a little fruity and a little spicy. Acidic in the end. This was a very smooth beer with a nice crisp finish. I could drink these all night long!

This golden beer has a nice small-bubbled head. The citrusy, malty aroma is pleasant, but not remarkable. The taste is mellow with elements of caramel and citrus. It has a slightly dry finish that was just a little bit sour. I'm not a fan of spring and summer beers, but I might try this one again.

I have to say, wasn't impressed at all with this beer. I really like most if not all SA. A very light brew that just didn't do it for me. Appearance was ok, but smelled skunky. Friends of mine have had it and liked it and I have read the reviews I may have to revisit this beer and do an update on it. Maybe I did get a sixer that was bad. I'll try it again next Spring.

Golden yellow color, small white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet. A Medium bodied Kolsch style ale. Not a lot of hoppyness, malt flavor prominent. Nice clean beer. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are mild and slightly spicy. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

A reddish-golden tinted brew with a decent sized white head that stays well. The aroma presented consists of sweet and sour maltiness and a good dose of spicy German-style hopping. On the palate, grain sweetness up front, changing into more sourness and spicy hoppiness in the middle. Hops become even more apparent at the back and lead into a crisp, dry finish. Nice, refreshing beer. Perfect for warm spring weather.

Dark tan, almost leather in color (caramel color). No head at all, even after an aggresive pour. I can not really smell anything at all, nothing. The taste is citrussy and sweet. It finishes more malty. Not very complex overall and not a ton of flavor. I pick up a tiny trace of hops half way through.

Not a beer that I would seek out, but not bad. I would like a little more flavor.

Poured a slightly hazy orange-gold with a medium-sized white head. Floral aromas present and a hint of malt. Good amount of carbonation. Starts with apple-y sweet malts and finishes bitter; nicely balanced. Very crisp up front but buttery mouthfeel going down. I could drink several, and I just might...

Clear bright golden color with a small white frothy head that sticks to my glass. Grassy and flowery aroma, has a light bready, grainy flavor, it is light bodied with somewhat of a thin yet crisp mouthfeel, finishes dry and crisp, nice easy drinking refreshing brew.

pours out a clear copper colour. thin white head leaves a bit of lace. nice light fruity aroma, rather pleasant. taste is quite light but somewhat flavourful...the light malting balanced nicely by the hops. actually it seems the hop profile is the star of this kolsch, making it highly drinkable and quite refreshing. certainly no heavyweight...but a slammable ale that one could drink many of, especially when the weather is warm. a nice ale.

Pours a golden yellow color, very nice. The aggressive pour gave me two fingers of head and threatening to go last it recedes, leaving an impressive trail of solid lacing.

Soft malty, sweet aroma. Seems pleasant enough so far.

Taste is mellow with a light malt presence. Very smooth Kolsch with no detectable hop bitterness. If there is a taste or feel that I'm supposed to get from Spalt Spalter and Kent Goldings hops, I don't know what it is, kind of disappointing. This is, however a tasty brew with a wonderfully smooth mouthfeel. I pick up a slightly alcoholic vapor in the mouth during the aftertaste, more pronounced when eating something with the beer.

I find this very drinkable. Also, rather adept at washing down some fried chicken. Mmm....

This was on sale for $7.99 a 12 pack, so with curiousity and frugality I went for it.

Pours a dark golden, light copper color with a nice frothy white head that slowly dissipates to a nice everpresent cover on the beer.

Smell isn't anything special, a light malty aroma.

Mouthfeel is nice, smooth drinking and easy going down the throat. Taste is a dry and slightly refreshing malt with a bit of an apple dry aftertaste.

All in all a nice session brew. I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of this brew, but I feel like I got my money's worth. If its ever on sale again I'll surely buy it. This is a good beer to hang out with some friends with and get ready for a nice summer on the town.

A nice welcome to spring that I look forword to every year. I bought this brew around the end of febuary but I don't open or offer it till after april 15th. It is Spring Ale and it sells out fast around here. Although there is nothing spectacular about this brew it wont disappoint either. It pours the copper-side of yellow with a nice classic head and a good lacer. The aroma is sweet & malty. The taste is a good balance of the sweet malt and a tart hint of the hops. The body of the beer is medium compaired to even some other Sammy's. The finish is alittle dry tart on the mouth. Well, my stock is gone for this year, I'll look forward to pick this again next feb. to enjoy once again next spring!! Now, bring on summer!

Pours a light copper in color with a thin, fizzy head. Floral hops and a grainy aroma. Has a thin to medium body, the goldings/spalt hops are noticed throughout, some light malt and a bit grainy towards the finish. Not an excellent kolsch, but a great thirst quencher indeed.

I've had so many varying American micro-brew versions of this classic German style, and none from it's homeland, that I must concede that my grasp of the kolsch is inadequate. Despite that, how's the beer?
Clear, light amber hue. Head is a big 2" , lacey and fluffy.
Aroma: soft and mild, fresh and clean.
Sweet and honeyish taste...shy hops, sweet and short finish.
Does not leave the palate unmoved, however.
Taste remains sweet, slightly citric, and refreshing. Definitely downable, light and breezy, a good, but unmemorable brew.
