The beer was served in a 22 oz. pilsner-style glass. It had a nice frothy cotton like head. Slowly dissapated with spotty lacing. Surprisingly nice head retention. Deep red color with an orange glow where the light strikes. Slow bubbles attempt to reach the top.
Definite sign of caramel malts with hints of roasted malts in the sweet aroma. Faint scent of hops in the background.
It tastes like toasted sourdough bread with sweet caramel honey coating the top. A spicey toasted hop finish holds off the carbonation in the end.
Medium to thin mouthfeel.
I'd have to say this is an easy beer to drink. It may be a little sweeter than I prefer, but I had no problem putting back 3 deuce-deuces.
Although it's not going to break my heart that this one isn't on the shelf at one of my favorite beer purchasing establishments, I must say this will be my beer of choice the next time we decide to dine at the downtown, excuse me, UPTOWN Charlotte Uno location.
And please note if you are so inclined, that this place is located on the corner of College and 2nd, not Tryon and 2nd as it's listed. I found out the hard way.

Sampled RBESG 2006, bottle. Reddish amber colour, creamy head. Reasonably hoppy aroma with some stale notes. Moderately malty and bready flavour with dusty hops. Okay, but not impressive.

L - Look like it always has; dark cider look, good head, not much lacing.
S - Has a sour malt/light hop smell to it; a bit of pine, and some floral components. Not pronounced.
T - Wow have ales come a long way since this broke ground 30+ years ago (for me at least). I remember liking this a ton over the lager back in the late 80s/early 90s. Now, it just tastes like a bitter lager. A little lightness and floral hops on the back end redeem it.
F - Good carbonation, not much palate impression.
O - still a darn reasonable "mega-micro" ale that I won't say no to!
(Had from a bottle only 3 weeks old on 8.28.20)

Pours a clear amber with soft head.

Taste is soft and malty with notes of knäckebröd, wheat dough, citrus and some floral hints. Moderate bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.
Overall, a solid, ale, easy to drink and balanced.

Nice clear golden amber color, white head quickly dissipated.
Smell malty and wonderful English hops
Taste malty, simple, but tasty
Mouthfeel could be better
I don't know if they still brew this in the Jamaica Plain (JP) Boston brewery. When they did and it was available on draft, this ale was absolutely superb. Everything fresh brewed draft at the JP Brewery is excellent. They even grow their own hops there.
