6-Pack - $8.99 at Bullock's Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.

Best Before: Aug 2016.

Appearance: Pours a golden body with noted clarity and a medium-small, near white head.

Smell: Spiced biscuit tops with a thin ribbon of implied honey-tinged sweetness ahead of fruity, citrusy hop notes and some earthy, grassy hints.

Taste: Bready, biscuity malts with a slender honeyed sweetness and touch of raw dough. Lightly floral and earthy with some citrusy touches. Medium-light bitterness. Lightly resiny and more of a citrus oil vibe heading into the crispish finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A lively, easy-drinking pale with relatively good balance to it.

- spiegelau ipa glass

A: Neat clarity, tarnished orange coloring is topped off with a chalky white, milky cream textured head that was remarkable in stay. Quick paced macro-effervesce, minimal lacing.

S: Freshly sliced lemon, lime, with lightly dry grains and straw that quickly dissipates into a minimal offering.

T: Flavor was semi-sweet crystal malt, and lightly dry citrus hops. Dry hopping of citrus and pine hop flowers, and bittering dry lime.

M: Fairly crisp mouthful, lightly creamy, nothing to write home about.

O: Overall thought this was ok at best, moderate hoppiness, but linear and very non-passionate in complexity. Ok drinkability, but again very unexciting. As much as i respect Sam Adams for their early involvement in the craft movement and getting me involved in the revolution, with the exception of their Nobel Pils, they seem to struggle in producing hoppy beers, either with lack of passion or resentment. They do make their share of very drinkable beers for everyday consumption, this just isn't one of them with so many other commonly available and more viable options per style.

12 oz bottle into a teku.

Appearance: Pours a clear copper color. The head is a finger high and white in shade. Actually, it's a bit less than a finger high - the duration sucks, too. On the plus side, a skinny ring of lacing sticks to the glass. (3.5)

Smell: I'm not familiar with Crystal hops, but they bring some nice characters here. Apricot, grapefruit, pine, earth, and flowers in particular. Some of the malts appear with a caramel expression. Not a vivid or in-your face aroma, but it works for what SA was trying to accomplish. (3.25)

Taste: A pretty straightforward flavor profile. Starts with some nice fruity yet floral hops, while the finish is a bit malty. More maltiness comes out the more I drink it. It does drink fine all in all, it just doesn't stand out in any matter. (3)

Mouthfeel: About what I'd expect from this kind of beer: fairly crisp, not heavy, decently carbonated. However, a bit too much residual sweetness lingers after several sips. Apart from that niggle, the feel is completely standard - no more, no less. (3)

Overall: Not a bad everyday drinker, just lacking excitement. It's every bit the middle-of-the-road beer I thought it would be - I mean, what else is expected from Sam Adams? I'd look for other pale ales over this one. (3)

3.09/5: Got the job done, just without any pizzazz or excitement

Boston Beer Co. catches a lot of heat for many reasons. Some valid . . . Some not. But, after drinking this pale ale I still think if a more respected brewery ( where's the Sam Adams love at ? ) put out this same beer, it would probably rate around the Same. It's ok, but not great.

This one pours a clear amber, with a quarter inch head, and little bit of lacing.

This one smells piney and earthy, with a little bit of fruity sweetness.

This is really not all that bad, surprisingly enough. The Crystal hops seem to provide a nice citrusy counterpoint to the earthy and grassy hops from the UK. There's a nice bready malt character as well. Not super complex or bold, but very tasty, and very crushable.

This is medium bodied, with a crisp and bready mouthfeel, and a moderate level of carbonation.

One of the better hop forward Sam Adams beers that I've ever had.

Looks great. Pretty amber with thick, frothy white head; and it leaves a decent lace. The smell was malty, floral, and citrusy, but it had a bitterness to it like a citrus rind of an orange or grapefruit. The taste is very peppery, carbonated, and citrusy (orange mainly I think). It's nice and refreshing. It leaves a dry, and interestingly bitter aftertaste. I don't know. I like it. I could definitely drink it again.

Pours a crystal clear darker Amber with half finger head. Smells of mild malt and even milder hops. Very minimal head rentention and lacing. Very balanced hop to malt ratio. Super drinkable. Too mild for my hop headedness.

Drink by July 2016.

L- Deep gold, great clarity, two finger white head.

S- Citrus peel, some earthy spice, light bready malt.

T- Light amounts of citrus and hoppy spice, light white bread, light to medium bitterness.

F- Light, good carb, easy drinking.

O- Another beer typical of Sam Adams, light to medium on aroma and flavor and easy drinking, not that it's a bad thing.
