Perhaps the most bland beer I have ever had. The hops aroma is nice but barely there. The malt is breadlike and tasty but lacking. I was expecting a robust autumn beer, but was treated with plain breadwater.

Golden copper in color. This is a pretty basic and uninspiring version of a saison. There are really no peppery notes and the funk is a bit too much to make it sessionable.

The taste starts out bready with strong flavors of Belgian yeast, wheat and a hearty malt character. Then some mildly sweet flavors of caramel, bananas, citrus and spices come in. The hops presence is good for the style and provides a little balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

Pours a dull yellow, but brighter and more orange in the glass. Clear on the bottom, hazy towards the top. Medium retention, lace- and film-forming, off-white head. Grainy aromas, as well as spice and tartness that I presume to originate in the yeast as much as the rye. Spice along the lines of allspice, cloves, or nutmeg, as well as banana to the fore in the tasting with mildly tart, malty backdrop. Herbal, almost rindy hops soon kick in. A little hard to distinguish from cloves. Reminds me of a pumpkin ale overall, just lighter in body, maybe less sweet. It's quite delicious. Medium in body and carbonation, very crisp.

Just a bit of anecdotal evidence that this beer may get better with age (mine "expired" in March, and I assume the same is true of most of the other recent reviews): of the 12 reviews since March, 8 have been at least + 4% rDev, with each of the last five (all late May and June) being at least + 7.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color with a large foamy white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains Belgian yeast, wheat, bananas, citrus, some spice, caramelized malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with strong flavors of Belgian yeast, wheat and a hearty malt character. Then some mildly sweet flavors of caramel, bananas, citrus and spices come in. The hops presence is good for the style and provides a little balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, it’s a solid beer but there are several better choices within the style.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 1/2015. Pours hazy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, wheat, cracker, spicy rye, toasted bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, wheat, cracker, spicy rye, toasted bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate amount of yeast spiciness and slight bready tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon/orange zest, pear, apple, light banana, clove, pepper, wheat, cracker, toasted bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good saison style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
