As far as session IPAs go, I'd say this is every bit as good as Stone's Go-To. A very nice and very subdued pine flavor, and a nice hops touch. Much better than I remember.

12 oz bottle. definitely achieves the easy-drinking, hoppy beer goal. quite pale, thinner body, higher carbonation. the weakest of the 3-beer Sam Adams IPA variety pack.

Appearance : Very thick, sticky lacing on the sides of the glass from a slowly receding three fingered head. The body is pale straw with a slight haze to it. The head is glorious, the lacing it leaves is just wondrous.

Aroma : Grapefruit and orange peel, a large dose of honey, biscuit malt, very faint piney notes. Very much a tropical smelling IPA more than a floral one. Upon deeper inhalation near the rim of the glass as it warms a few degrees there's some faint armpit. Sort of like the Rogue Yellow Snow but not nearly as potent.

Flavor : Peach pit, orange rind (the white stuff), light cantaloupe, with toasted white bread crusts. A faint pine note stabs the tongue at the end of the taste. Very refreshing.

Feel : Easy drinking, absolutely spot on for a light and sessionable IPA. Light, yet buzzing carbonation, with a semi-dry finish leaving a dry wood residue on the palate.

Overall : One of my new favorite IPA's. Very easy to drink, unoffensive, and still retains those classic tropical IPA flavors. Like an Odell IPA-lite. Like it a lot.

P: 12oz bottle into a perfect pint glass.

A: Pours a hazy gold with a small white head that dies rather quickly. Lacing is minimal.

S: Piney hops and a little citrus. Some malt but it's weak.

T: Much lighter in body than I expected, not very bitter even with a light malt base. You taste the pine and citrus hops with just enough malt flavor to know it's a beer. Goes down easy, clearly a session IPA. I'd put it more in line with a pale ale than an IPA but not sure I care.

M: Light body with moderate carbonation. Flavors linger on the tongue.

O: This beer in some ways reminds me of Yards Pale Ale but it's not as good. I'd grab a Yards any day over this but at the same time, it's a solid beer for a hot day. Nice flavor and easy drinking.

Rebel Rider pours a hazy golden color with a long lasting head. There is a earthy and almost skunky aroma. The taste has some hop flavors, big earth flavors. Nice body good feel. Overall its slightly above average. The hops come through barely, and it feels like it has a heavier body.

Not much for slamming beers on here. As in completely negative, or awful reviews. I like quite a few of SA's brews. However, this one is really bad. I'm planning on making beer brats tomorrow with this brew and I hope it doesn't ruin my brats if that's possible. Won't be drinking rebel rider anytime soon. Sorry

A: Clear straw color with 1 inch head white head on top that hangs around, good lacing

S: I get some malts and some dank hops, there is a decent amount of smell but nothing that really jumps out in it.

T: I get an interesting hop bitterness from those dank hops, a little citrus, bready malts on the end

M: Medium to light, hops create a resin coating on mouth, carbonation is active

O: A decent beer. Not my favorite session IPA but a solid offering from Boston Beer Company which I have come to expect from them.

Very fresh tasting and citrusy hop burst. Definitely on the thin side, but as the weather warms here in Maine, you could do alot worse. Not saying it's perfect, but enjoyable and refreshing.

Pours a lovely, clear straw-gold with a thin white ehad that dissipates quickly and leaves a bit of lacing.
Aroma is slightly citrus and crackery with a hint of dank.
Taste is bitter grapefruit pith with a hint of malt and then a finishing, slightly dank bitter.
Mouthfeel is watery and bubbly.
Overall, OK but nothing to write home about.

Head small (<1 cm, aggressive pour), white, creamy, rapidly diminishing to 2 mm ring and layer
Lacing good – partial wide rings of tiny bubbles
Body light yellow, clear, effervescent
Flavor light, citrusy, slightly bitter; no alcohol, no diacetyl: a pleasant pale ale
Palate light, watery, lively carbonation

-Spiegelau ipa glass.

A: Pristine corn-orange coloring with a slow medium rise of carbonation. Short living chalky white capping leaves a skimmy coating atop with a minimal amount of weak lacing on the way down.

S: Perfumy grapefruit, mid-range awareness for a session, low to moderate for an ipa style which ever you prefer. Wet freshly squeezed lemon with the aroma quickly tampering off after first impression.

T: Semi-dry lemon, grassy-barley notes with a rough helping of edgy citrus, damp, off bittering with fresh grains and crackers. Dry hopping of bittering citrus flower, grapefruit with a short lingering effect. Flavor quickly thins out on the finish.

M: Light bodied, semi-crispness, could of used more co2. Alkaline-pill like coating on the tongue.

O: Ok overall, for a session, less so for ipa style. While i respect sam adams for being an early innovator in the craft field and my involvement, the depth of hopping, along with the hop quality, and thinning body makes this a sub-par offering/entry into an otherwise hard field to gain respect from most hop heads. There are a few examples with some good hopping, fresh, high level ibus, unfortunately this is not one of them.Thin hopping off the tongue, low intensity hinders this, some off, sour, danky citrus notes makes this a single curious try with not much expectations, sorry sammy.

Not much in the way of hops, rather malty. Lacking in an fun citrus flavors. When people say Sam Adams is boring, this is what they are talking about.

L: poured into glass. Looks like it might be an I'm IPA. Cloudy medium color. Head very thin

S: grapefruit or orange and a little hops. Maybe some pine.

T: Terrible. Not an ipa. Seriously lacking hops. Way too carbonated.

F: feels like I'm drinking soda.

Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Clear golden yellow with a nice off white head

Smell: Some hops, citrus, orange. A little pine.

Taste: A lot of citrus and pine. Ends with mild hops.

Mouthfeel: Sharp, very carbondated. But light.

Overall: Its a good beer, but weak from an IPA standpoint. However it is light and easy to drink.

A: Pours a clear gold with a thick white head.

S: Aromas of minerals, biscuits, crackers, lime zest, kumquats, lemon rind, grapefruit pith, and pine present themselves on the nose.

T: Notes of lemon rind, pine, grapefruit pith, lime zest, kumquats, bitter orange peel, minerals, crackers, and biscuits fill the mouth. The finish is extremely bitter, with overpowering pine, mineral, and citrus rind flavors dominating.

M: Light-bodied and sappy. Carbonation is prickly. In my opinion, this is not so easy to drink for a session beer.

O: Compared to many reviewers on this site, I am not automatically inclined to give every SA product a low or average score, and honestly, I really like a number of SA products. Still, I am not all that impressed with this beer. It lacks complexity and the bitterness is overwhelming and unpleasant compared to many other session IPAs I have tried. Furthermore, it is a little too filling to really succeed as a true session beer. All in all, it is not awful, but it does not compare favorably to similar products from Stone, Founders, and the like.

Samuel Adams Rebel Rider has a thin, white head, a clear, yellow-gold, bubbly appearance, and moderate lacing left behind. The aroma is of low-profile citrus and pine, with white bread. Taste is the same, at a thin, shallow level. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Samuel Adams Rebel Rider finishes dry and drinkable.

L: Copper, slightly cloudy.

S: Mild dank smell with a little bit of biscuit and citrus.

T: Similar to smell, dank with a mild malt finish and minimal citrus/pine. Pretty watery tasting.

F: I like a little more carbonation and a stronger body, too watery.

Overall: Did not enjoy this as much as I hoped to, as someone who is a fan of IPAs and session IPAs. Expected it to be more citrusy but really did not mind the dankness of it. Just the watery-ness of it really took away from the overall enjoyment for me.

Utterly lacking in all of the things I look for in a session IPA. Having the opportunity to drink Boat anytime I want, why I would ever choose this beer that hardly had a nose and tasted like watery skunky bread, I'm not sure. Somebody brought it to Easter and after two sips, I was done with it. Perhaps it was stale?

Clear, gold, with a frothy white head. The aroma is of spicy hops, although not as pronounced as other IPA's. Grain. It's a dry beer, with a spice hop note, and a little graininess. Some underlying malt, but the mid-tongue hop spiciness is the key to the beer. Medium in body. Not quite as good as I expected.

This one is about a medium orange, very slightly hazy so that it's translucent, with a creamy whitish head that's light in texture. It holds up a layer on top of teh beer, puts down a ring where it settles, and follows with light patching in between pretty think rings further down.
The aroma's notes come in and out, holding out but softening to make it more of a strain to catch them from time to time. There is a nice, even hoppiness, mostly of citrus zest and a musty sort of pith. It's almost, but not quite, dank.
There are adequate hops in the flavor but it seems that to make it sessionable the brewers just lowered the malt base. It's a bit biscuity, but it allows some pith in as well as a light note of spent toasted grains. It's a pretty good IPA all in all, but lacking in a couple respects.
The body is medium but a thin medium, and some more malts would have added a bit of heft to the body complementing the sharp crispness. It still flows nicely and is quite smooth, and the balance is consistent.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date, sample from the brewery.

L: Mildly hazed golden straw hue, excellent lacing.

S: Fresh citrus zest, cracker-like maltiness, smells a little thin but certainly like an IPA.

T: Herbal, heavy citrus, peppercorn, & pine from the hop flavor and bitterness. Barely enough malt for balance here, would have like to a see a bit more body. Light on the alcohol obviously.

F: Very crisp with a lighter body, dry and a bit thin.

More than enough hop character to be an IPA, the malt has been sacrificed to ensure it is a "session beer" ... perhaps a bit more than it should have but this one is still beerish.

I like to read what the brewer's trying to get across in their brew. In this case SA succeeds.. I taste everything stated and enjoy its lightness and easy drinking. . I'm a keg dude and will be be looking for it this spring and summer. Definitely a session beer.
