Don't be fooled by the poor ratings this is bar none one of the best double ipa's ever made as long as you drink it within the 45 days. After that it does change significantly. I am anxiously waiting for the next release. If you're lucky to find it just try 1 I'm sure you will be impressed

16 oz can poured into an IPA glass. Comes in a 4-pack. Limited release.

L - hazy golden amber color. Barely read a newspaper thru it. Bone white foamy dome with medium lacing

S - grapefruit rind, conifer pine, wide hop variety. A lot of different hop scents that narrow down to the usual suspects

T - strong malt and bitter hops, not that complex. Kind of rough hops instead of the smooth hop taste from the whale DIPAs. Grapefruit and citrus are the dominant notes

F - very little heat from the 10 percent. Some thickness in the body, soft texture. Resinous hops lingers on the tongue

O - you can tell where Samuel Adams was going with this. Does not really do it justice, there's no smoothness to it. Basically a large batch Heady Topper

Pours lightly hazy deep honey gold with decent one finger head. Head drops but persists and leaves beautiful sticky lacing. Aroma is a nice dank citrus and tropical fruit with some pine. A promising start. Unfortunately the flavor, while following the nose, has a little more bitterness than would be perfectly balanced. The mouthfeel is thinner than you would expect and the alcohol (prodigious amount) is not particularly well-hidden. Glad to see Sam Adams venture into the NE IPA realm but they have a bit to do to catch up to the Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, Fiddlehead, MBC, Tree House, Trillum, NEBC, etc.
