Taking our inspiration from autumn in New England, where pumpkin ales are fall favorites, we brew this saison with real pumpkin and classic fall spices. The real pumpkin creates a rich depth of flavor that is complemented by the spicy clove character of the saison yeast. The traditional pumpkin pie spices add layers of warm spice notes.

Pours almost clear orange amber with a beige head. Pumpkin, sweet malt, fall spices. Medium carbonation, spiced finish. Decent example. The spiced finish is what makes it one of the most palatable of the group.

A fall favorite of mine, even though I am typically not a fan of ales. This brew retains the quality Sam Adams is known to deliver year round. The pumpkin flavor adds a subtle sweetness that compliments the beer, and is not at all overpowering. Best of all, the aftertaste; while present, is not an overpowering sour/sweet like you'd get from other flavored ales like Redd's.

Poured into tulip. Fat head, lace all the way through. Dusty amber color.

Mild spicy nose, some apricot.

Taste is pumpkin and other autumnal spice, sweet malt undertones on the end. Hops weave in an out of flavor.

Mouth is unremarkable.

A saison with fall personality. The pumpkin spice is, actually, the most interesting part. Interesting but not overly memorable.

Don't really notice too much pumpkin, but the beer is very smooth with a surprisingly full mouth. Hints of spices show up in the finish and in the strong aftertaste.

Another meh pumpkin ale, lacking in pumpkin nose and taste. Thinking this would be more marketable as an Octoberfest or Winter Warmer with a slight hint of fall pumpkin. As a full-up pumpkin beer, it's a no-show.

Appearance: Hazy, dusty orange body, crowned by a modest, dense cream-colored head, with good retention. Irregular tidemarks adorn the glass walls. The carbonation is modest and slow-rising.

Aroma: Strong phenolic notes present well against pumpkin pie spices and earth notes.

Taste: The taste begins with moderate phenolic notes, soon infused with pumpkin pie spices. As the taste progresses, the spices: cloves, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger, battle against earthy phenolic notes and spicy alcohol, leading to stalemate. Late in the taste, the phenols assert a bit in this melange. Finishes with a long and lingering, rustic earth note.

Mouth feel: Smooth and very full, soft and pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: An interesting rendition of a pumpkin ale, the rustic Saison characteristics mix well with the pumpkin pie spices.

Presentation: Packaged in a twelve-ounce brown glass long-neck bottle with a pry-of crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

In Memoriam: Pumpkin (April 1998 - November 22, 2014) - the best cat ever. We will always miss you

A thanks goes out to the legendary woodychandler for this beer. Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Yes, a bottle from woodychandler. Rare, but it happens. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, spices, light pumpkin. Taste is pumpkin, more than in the aroma, spices are present some malts, easy drinking. Feels medium/light bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.
