Notes: Taking our inspiration from autumn in New England, where pumpkin ales are fall favorites, we brew this saison with real pumpkin and classic fall spices. The real pumpkin creates a rich depth of flavor that is complemented by the spicy clove character of the saison yeast. The traditional pumpkin pie spices add layers of warm spice notes.

Samuel Adams describes this beer as having pumpkin and fall flavors with a flowery taste. I describe it as a flaming burnt ginger bread house that your 4 year old dropped pulling it out of the oven and landing in a pile of pumpkin innurds that your dog just threw up. I hated it ,solid F . Half went down the drain.

12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.

I moved this to the Saison style figuring if Boston Beer Co. is going to brew a pumpkin ale with Saison yeast then their intention was to make a pumpkin and spiced flavored Saison rather than an American pumpkin and using Belgian yeast.

Good amount of suds, great clarity. Smells of your typical pumpkin spice mixed with some trademark phenolics you get from a Belgian yeast, I don't get much gourd in the nose. Crisp and smooth with a bit of body, spicy two-fold from the pie spice and the yeast. Healthy kiss of hops, a hint of pumpkin and a faint ripe fruity alcohol within. A hell of a lot better than most of the usual pumpkin or pie spiced beers out there ... for one reason only, they yeast.

This is the best new pumpkin beer I've tried for the 2015 season. I love the saison base, it's a little weird but it's been a while since I had an interesting pumpkin ale. It's dry and spicy with an earthy hop character that comes out in the aroma and finishing taste. The pumpkin and spice mix wonderfully, so that you might not guess off the bat it's a pumpkin beer. Nicely done Sam.

Appearance: Hazy, dusty orange body, crowned by a modest, dense cream-colored head, with good retention. Irregular tidemarks adorn the glass walls. The carbonation is modest and slow-rising.

Aroma: Strong phenolic notes present well against pumpkin pie spices and earth notes.

Taste: The taste begins with moderate phenolic notes, soon infused with pumpkin pie spices. As the taste progresses, the spices: cloves, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger, battle against earthy phenolic notes and spicy alcohol, leading to stalemate. Late in the taste, the phenols assert a bit in this melange. Finishes with a long and lingering, rustic earth note.

Mouth feel: Smooth and very full, soft and pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: An interesting rendition of a pumpkin ale, the rustic Saison characteristics mix well with the pumpkin pie spices.

Presentation: Packaged in a twelve-ounce brown glass long-neck bottle with a pry-of crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

In Memoriam: Pumpkin (April 1998 - November 22, 2014) - the best cat ever. We will always miss you

A: Pours a clear golden amber in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation and faint golden yellow + copper highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy white head that reduces to a thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of pumpkin pie spices (clove, allspice, nutmeg), slightly sweet pumpkin, spicy/peppery saison yeast, and just a hint of brown sugar.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of caramel malts and roasted pumpkin but without much associated sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of pumpkin pie spices (clove, allspice, and nutmeg in descending order of strength) and moderate flavor of spicy/peppery saison yeast. Light amounts of bitterness in the finish which fades away pretty quickly.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: Interesting "pumpkin saison" which is not what I expected when I first purchased this one (as there was not info available online when I first grabbed it). Not sure if I am a fan of this hybrid style of not, the flavor combinations are complex and interesting but not super easy to drink.

Sam Adams Pumpkin Batch brewed by Boston Beer Company, 5.60% ABV. This brew pours out a deep amber color with a nice white head. Sam Adams Pumpkin Batch, has the look of most framhouse ales on the market. The smell of this brew is grains, malts, spice and pumpkin. Now for the taste of pumpkin batch, it bold with flavors. You pick up grains, and malts at first, then the pumpkin and spice comes in at the end. This is the first pumpkin brew I has where the brew has more of a beer taste than just pumpkin and spice. Not saying that is a bad thing, I like how this brew is different form most of the brews on the market. There is a lot going on in Sam Adams Pumpkin Batch, this brew has a nice balance to it. There is nothing overpowering about Sam Adams Pumpkin Batch. The mouthfeel of Sam Adams Pumpkin Batch, is Bold, Refreshing and smooth. Overall I'm giving Sam Adams Pumpkin Batch a 4.5 out 5. Boston Beer Company (Samuel Adams), did a nice job with this one. I would buy this brew again.

Terrible! Tastes malty and bitter! Tastes nothing like pumpkin! Definitely 4/5's saison flavor and 1/5 pumpkin flavor.

Don't buy it for the pumpkin!

Very strong funky yeast and sudsy. It is fruity/esters dominated. Could barely finish this one because it reminded me of a cough medicine due to a very artificial flavor of some sort.

Pours a clear amber color, smells of bananas and pumpkin pie spice. The taste is decidedly pumpkin pie space with some graham crackers thrown in. The aftertaste is bitter and I said to myself "this is the driest pumpkin ale I've ever had." Oops. It's not a pumpkin ale at all. Medium bodied, light carbonation, overall quite enjoyable.

A: Light, copper color, thin white head, little to none

S: Belgian yeast is the main player here, a little bit of spices

T: That belgian yeast smell translates into the taste of spices with a little bit of bitterness at the end, not a lot of pumpkin, maybe a little on the end

M: Light to medium

O: This is the first pumpkin beer I have bought this season and I was pretty underwhelmed by the amount of pumpkin it had in it. I realize it is a saison and the smell and taste really fit that bill but I was looking for some real pumpkin taste and this didnt have much.
