Sam Adams Cream Stout, 4.9% ABV, 35 IBU. Pours thick and black, with a slight tan head. Nose is coffee, chocolate, and lactose, taste follows, with a bit of carbonation burn on the close. Mouthfeel is OK, overall very good.

This stout pours a black color with a slight ruby red tint and a medium foamy light tan head. The smell is roasty and a little bit sweet with toasted grains and chocolate notes. The flavor has roasted grains as the primary element with more mild chocolate, coffee, and cream elements with a bit of sweetness. The finish is pretty smooth and creamy, but I have had many smoother. Stouts of this style are much improved in this regard with nitro taps in my opinion. The body is heavy, but just a little lighter than ideal for a stout. This has some very solid, albeit not overly complex, flavors, but there are also a couple of minor drawbacks to this stout. It’s definitely an above average Sam Adam’s beer though.

A: small and brown foam with high persistency. S. Milk, coffee, caramel. T. Milky taste honoring its name. M. low alcholic feeling, light body. O. a little bit flat in comparsion with other Stouts (Not Imperials, of course), but good beer , nice to be enjoyed after a Carne Asada.

There is a notch on the left side of the label under NOV 2017, and "ENJOY BEFORE MONTH NOTCHED."

Appearance: The body looks black and it has a good sized light khaki head.

Aroma: It has a really nice aroma which is a mix between coffee and burnt popcorn kernels. It is strong enough to leap out of the glass at about arms length but delicate enough that when approached it doesn't become overwhelmingly strong.

Taste: When it hits the palate there is a bit of a roasted and burnt flavor but it is shortly replaced with the taste of coffee. This is then quickly replaced by this nice mix of toffee and burnt toffee which is really the highlight here. That burnt toffee flavor is just a tad sweet and it makes you want to take another sip to drink it again.

Mouthfeel: It feels a bit light in body for a cream stout. There just isn't much texture to the beer, like it is a bit thin. Other than that the beer has a nice flow across the palate and the carbonation feels good. A bit of a dry finish.

Overall: It has some good flavors and aroma but it is lacking in body. It focuses on roasted flavor but it has a nice sweet edge right at the end. It's good enough that I would drink it again.

12 oz bottle. Deep black, like a good stout. Good head retention. Tastes smoky and silky. Excellent stuff.

Creamy, roasty, slightly sweet, bitter. What a surprise this beer turned out to be. Maybe this is the first time I've actually seen it in the store or perhaps it's my craft-beer-tendencies that blind me to Sam Adams. Not sure, but when I saw the price tag ($8.99 for a sixer), ABV and description - it called to me. Pours an inky-black but doesn't look viscous or oily; the brew has a lightness about it that's accentuated by the soft head. Aroma of roasted barley, coffee grounds, charcoal and chocolate. The taste is bitter chocolate, dark roast coffee, char, burnt toast and a hint of milk chocolate. Outstanding balance of malt, hops and lactose gives a it a roasty, bitter and slightly sweet profile. 4.9ABV is wonderful; allows me to scratch that dark-beer itch without going overboard. Delicious beer with a lingering bitterness. Awesome example of the style.

A great stout and probably my favorite Samuel Adams beer. Drank this straight out of the bottle. Smelled notes of coffee and chocolate. A smooth taste and a great finish. Enjoy this beer. I know I did.

Appearance: Dark pour/reddish edges.
Aroma: pleasant medium-light coffee/chocolate cream
Taste: sweet up front and mid-palate, perfect carb, ends quickly and gives way to more bitter finish
Finish: bitter light coffee finish with the very end changing to that classic stout-ey medium burnt bite characteristic of most stouts I have tried.
Overall: well balanced and tasty. A really good cream/milk stout

Presentation: 12 oz bottle freshness notched for August 2017 poured into a pint glass.

Look: Dark cola brown almost black with a 3/4 finger tan head. Head collapses quickly but revives somewhat with a swirl.

Smell: Malts, dark chocolate, and coffee.

Taste: Rather sweet start fades into slightly bitter dark chocolate and coffee notes.

Feel: Medium body with moderate carbonation and a slightly dry finish.

Overall: A good, flavorful beer and the one that got me into stouts.
