On nitro-tap 1/14/2016 at Doherty’s Ale House in Warwick, RI, served in a tapered pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a large dense off-white head that fades very slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains Belgian yeast, citrus, spices, wheat and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out very bready with flavors of wheat, Belgian yeast and a hearty malt character. Then some sweet flavors of citrus and spices come in along with some caramel. The hops presence is very mild but brings a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, it’s a decent beer but there are better options within the style.

Poured thick and foamy. As this offering eventually settled, the hazy pale straw color became visible. The nose has notes of wheat and orange. The flavor follows the nose with even more citrus on the finish.

I thought that even the suggestion of a nitro witbier was highly dubious but I actually really liked this offering. It is highly drinkable and surprisingly tasty - an ideal sessionable spring beer.
