The recent changes in alcohol laws here in PA have meant drastic differences in the way beer is made available to the public. Now, even a simple trip to the grocery store involves a trip into the Café section to look at/for singles. I found this one during a visit to one of the local Giant Food Stores!

From the bottle: "Earthy & Unexpected".

I Pop!ped the cap on this one & began a very slow, gentle pour. Once sufficiently decanted, I employed an in-glass swirl that raised just over two fingers of dense, foamy, eggshell-white head with moderate retention. leaving behind nice lacing in its wake. Color was solidly Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a pronounced earthiness, like freshly-turned soil! Wow. If this was hops-driven, I am doubly impressed. I might have guessed the malt were it not for the label. Mouthfeel was medium, big for a lager. The taste retained the earthy, soil-like flavor, but it was joined by a cool mintiness which was ... unexpected! Talk about truth in advertising. This kind of earthy, minty, tea-like flavor resonated throughout the drink, ending up in a semi-dry finish. This was really a nice beer overall & one that I would not mind seeing in a CAN.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours orange amber with a one finger white head. Smells of light floral hops, but very weakly. However, it has a nice grain smell and it is inviting. Tastes of nice grain with earthy and slight citrus hops. Beer is light bodied and a bit heavily carbonated, yet easy drinking. Overall, an above average beer.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains grassy hops, lager yeast, caramelized malts and some citrus.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and citrus. Then some breadiness comes in from lager yeast and a hearty malt character. The grassy hops presence is decent for the style and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly bready.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to pound down for a while.

Nice looking beer. Hazy amber Orange with white lacing and thin head. Smell is Light. Something interesting in the back... wet something... outdoors after rain maybe? Taste is bitter up front. Moves to more caramel malt bread, but very drying. Light bitter hop aftertaste and stays drying. More malt than most ipas, not as smooth as most pale ales. if this is an ipl I guess it's ok for the style.

Pours a golden copper with a little over half a finger of head. The nose is earthy and a touch dank. The earthiness carries over into the flavor profile.

From a 12oz bottle marked best by June. Pours an orange color with a finger of tan head. Citrusy hop smell. Slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Taste is a blend of earthy malt richness and hop bitterness. More malt-forward than I was expecting. Very good.

A dark golden to lighter amber with some lava lamp action going on inside the glass. Lots of carbonation rising and a finger of khaki head that sticks to the glass. In the aroma I get herbal/floral quality along with lemon, fruit rind, and bread crust. The flavor is nice. Earthy, herbal, a bit of hop resin/oil, and of course bready. Some bright lemon, as well. The feel is medium body but still drinks like a typical bready lager. Dry and with full carbonation. Not blown away with the aroma, but the flavor was different, and a nice little surprise.
