As vibrant in color as the liveliest fall foliage, with a deep red hue supporting rich notes of caramel and vanilla, followed by a smooth maple finish. Warming enough for a chilly fall day, these autumn flavors dance against a lightly sweet malt background.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours deep red with a small off white head. Smells of some darker grain with a tad of maple syrup, but it is all quite weak. Tastes of darker grain with slight maple. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, an average beer.

Pours reddish brown with a two-finger tan head. Malts and maple attack the snoot on the dip-in. Slight sweetness, relatively light with a bit of a different taste than you might expect. A good one.

From notes taken 03/14/17:
Very deep, dark copper color and mostly clear. Foamy golden tan head of superb retention. Honey and dark fruit more than maple, I’d say. Still, there is a case to be made, since maple is about half-way between those two. To taste, maple is more distinct, nearly to the exclusion of the other two. It is sweet, but nowhere near as sweet as natural maple syrup (which is less sweet and more woody than your average maple syrup). It still has some vegetal and leafy qualities, in addition to a slightly toasty, caramel background. Sweetness is unique enough for the otherwise cloying nature of it to actually be interesting and enjoyable. Apart from somewhat herbal and spicy retro-olfaction, the hops might as well not be there, unless they are purely a balancing factor. Medium to full in body with very “wet” and heavy spritzy suds. Compare to a Bock, a Vienna, an Altbier, a lightly hopped Amber. It might not be any of those, and it might not be its own style, but it is far removed from just about any other beer, regardless of what it started out as. This beer is what Leinenkugel’s Heart of Oak tried to be, but falls short of, say, Red Lodge Ale’s Hunt for Red Oaktober. Admittedly this is an ale and those two are lagers, but the same basic impression was attempted in each.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear reddish brown with a nice tan head. Aroma of malts and maple. Taste is of maple and malts, slightly sweet, not too heavy.

This is a killer beer for a malty/sweet beer fan. That's my preference. I only wish that I could get this more often. It was part of a seasonal 12 pack variety pack..as usual for Sam Adams....why don't they sell six packs of this stuff or others instead 2-3 beers per 12 packs?????
