Notes: This beer's biscuity malt flavor and hint of citrusy hops are the backdrop for the bold zest of ginger, which adds a warming, spicy character that's just right for a cool night.

Minimal, but lacing head. Aroma has some ginger, as does the flavor, combined with a dry malt flavor. Minimal hops and an odd palate that leaves a sort of coating of ginger and lingering dryness with ginger remaining

Samuel Adams Ginger Beer brewed by Boston Beer Company, with an ABV of 6.00% This Spiced brew pours out a deep golden amber color with a small white head. The head to this brew goes away fast, there is also some nice spotty lacing, to this brew. The smell is rich with ginger, and other spices. You also pick up on some nice sweet grains and malts in the smell. Hops are present in the smell but faint. This is a nice inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is bold and spicy with flavors. You first pick up on the zesty ginger spices then the smooth grains and malts. I like how the spices hit the tongue. The body of Ginger Beer is a soild medium. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a real nice balance to it. It is hard to pick up on the 6.00% ABV in this brew, it is just that smooth. If you are not a fan of Spicy brews then, this would not be a brew for you. The spices add a nice touch to this brew. The mouth feel is Spicy, Ginger, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I'm giving Samuel Adams Ginger Beer a 4.25 out of 5. I would look this brew up again givin the chance to. Boston Beer Company (Samuel Adams), did a super nice job with this spice brew.

Pours a clear gold color. 1/2 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and great lacing. Smells of slight ginger, hint of pale malt, and a hint of sweet malt. Fits the style of a Herbed / Spiced Beer. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of slight ginger, pale malt, and a slight sweet malt. Overall, tasty, but simple. and decent appearance.

Enjoy by April 2017. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours golden with nice clarity and transparency; fluffy eggshell white head that falls leaving great retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are malt forward with some balanced spice notes. There's a nice amount of ginger along with some cinnamon. Some caramel and lime in the mix as well. The flavors basically follow the nose. Cinnamon and ginger lead the way along with some nutmeg. Some fresh lime in the mix. Some caramel and biscuit in the finish. Some honey flavor as well. Malts do their thing. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is nice. It's light with moderate to active carbonation. It's fluffy and very smooth.

This is a solid spiced brew. It's balanced. It starts off flavorful, but seems to fall off a bit as I get into it. It's still enjoyable though.

Found this one lingering in the back of the fridge. I always getting the SA mixed Holiday pack and was hoping this beer would be as good as last year’s sparkling ale.

Pouted into a glass, the beer is light gold with pretty good clarity. There is a white head that leaves nice lacing.

The nose is of light grains and a hint of ginger.

The taste is also light with grains, apple and muted ginger. The ginger does become more pronounced as you work through the beer. I would like to see it amped up another notch. Still, this is kind of a change of pace beer and it is light and refreshing.

The mouth is crisp with a decent level of carbonation that seems to fit the style.

Fresh from a 12 Oz into a nonic glass. Good soft head, mild lacing. Looks like a flat dark lager. Yellow. You can smell the ginger at least. It shows up most in the aftertaste it's gingery, yes. Not one I'd buy alone.

Second bottle of this one from the variety pack. Best-by month is May of 2017, so this should still be in great shape.

Really nice-looking beer. Pours with a golden color, about the same once in the glass; it's very clear, with a ton of little rising bubbles. Nice fluffy layer of white foam on top, too -- not huge, but pretty dense and seems to be wanting to stick around for a while. I don't recall this one foaming up that much when I drank the first bottle, oddly enough -- maybe I just did a better job pouring it this time around.

Smell is a nice grainy pale malt, ginger, and a very noticeable background sweetness. On a second sniff the ginger's coming through a little spicier and balancing that sweetness out a bit, which is nice as the sweetness was a bit stronger than expected on first sniff. Oddly, I'm getting more of an almost metallic thing as I get to around the halfway point. Not sure what's up with that.

Taste is similar to the smell, but the malt comes through a bit stronger. On the first sip the ginger was more of a background presence, with mostly grainy, biscuity malt and a little sweetness coming through ahead. On the second sip, the ginger is coming through stronger, but so is that sweetness that was so noticeable in the first sniff. The sweetness is a bit much, almost overpowering the other aspects (the malt in particular seems to get lost somewhere around the third drink, which is too bad because this beer does have a pretty nice malt flavor to it that makes it obvious it's not just an alcoholic soda-type ginger ale.) Overall it's not a bad flavor, but it is definitely a bit too far on the sweet side.

Mouthfeel on the other hand is really nice. It's got a heftier feel to it than I expected (I didn't realize it was 6% ABV ahead of time -- the more substantial feel makes sense now!), but pretty smooth and with nice soft carbonation rather than harsh bubbles -- you definitely won't mistake this for a soda, despite the somewhat overboard sweetness in the flavor.

Overall, this definitely isn't bad but is probably the weakest beer in Samuel Adams' 2016 winter variety pack. The mouthfeel is really nice, the heftiness of it really does work with this being a "cold night" sort of drink as the description says, but it could benefit with a bit less sweetness in the flavor -- the sweetness that's there is the weird sort that stands out too much and seems just slightly off. Almost makes my teeth hurt. I have to wonder how different this would be with the 55 IBU listed on this site at the time I'm writing this, as opposed to the 18 IBU listed on the bottle (which I'm pretty sure is the more accurate number -- there is no way in hell this has more hops in it than a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale!)

Presentation: 12 oz bottle freshness notched for April poured into a pint glass.

Look: Ginger ale colored with a white 1.5 finger head. Good head retention.

Smell: Starts with malts and your typical holiday spice profile and finishes with a nice snap of ginger.

Taste: The ginger is up front but not overdone and balances nicely with the malt backbone.

Feel: Medium to slightly thick mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Works well for this style.

Overall: A solid middle of the road beer.

It's a little hard to rate this one. It doesn't taste like ginger and it doesn't exactly taste like beer, either. It is bright but it's generally lacking in flavor. Not hoppy, not malty, well not much of anything, really.

T: Follows the nose a little breadyness, up front. Ginger, a little citrus & breadyness as this warms. Fiinishes with ginger & a little grainyness

MF: Medium body, smooth carbonation, thins out as it warms

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 4/2017. Pours fairly crystal clear medium golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of ginger, lemon, lime, orange zest, wheat, biscuit, light honey, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt, ginger/citrus, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of ginger, lemon, lime, orange zest, wheat, biscuit, light honey, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of ginger, lemon, lime, orange zest, wheat, biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of pale malt, ginger/citrus, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from bitter/spiciness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%; subtle ginger spice heat builds through the glass on the finish. Overall this is a very nice spiced blonde ale. All around nice robustness and balance of pale malt, ginger/citrus, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, clean, and refreshing to drink. Very spot on for the style, and never overwhelming on spice flavors. A very enjoyable offering.

L: Crystal clear pale amber color. Thin head without much retention.

S: Lots of ginger and a little malt.

T: Ginger definitely predominates. Bready malts and a light hop presence.

F: Smooth and crisp. Moderate body and carbonation.

O: Never had a ginger beer before, but I imagine this one is fairly light on the ginger. There is definitely ginger there, but it's not incredibly strong. Not bad though.

Part of a Winter Sampler 24-pack. 4 bottles of 6 different beers. Poured in to a Sam Adams Ultimate Beer Glass.

Pours a bright gold color, crystal clear, with a thin white head.

Smell is a wet grain and bitter spice aroma.

Taste is a dry bitter flavor, wet grain and bitter spices.

Mouthfeel is light but not particularly clean. A bit of a cloying nature and a bitter finish.

Over an OK brew. I don't know that I would have this again.

Very attractive light gold color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma is mild bready malt with a small hit of floral, spicy hops.

Taste is mild/medium like one of the less assertive European lagers. Enough malt to know you're not drinking some adjunct laden brew yet not quite enough of a ginger hit to offset the malt richness. What it needs is a whack of strong, peppery, fresh ginger. There is ginger in there but for me it's more apparent in the mild aftertaste. Hops in there as well I suppose but not enough to notice.

Ok, upfront admission, I like ginger. When I made spring rolls the other day the kids thought I used just a bit more ginger than necessary and I thought I didn't use enough. So there's that. I wasn't really expecting a strong ginger character in this brew and can't say I would've bought it as a stand alone, but it was in the Winter Pack and I'm pleased it was.

This seasonal offering just doesn't seem to impress me on most features.

The good - It's got a lovely light copper color, a fair head and decent rimming retention. Fairly nice nose.

The not good - bitter finish, mostly weak flavor and I'm still searching for ginger flavor. Maybe I'm used to Caribbean style "ginger beer" which is just peppery ginger ale. But I use fresh and powdered ginger a lot in cooking and I know what I'm looking for - and not finding it.

Overall, I have to judge this beer on flavor satisfaction and I'm very disappointed.
