This brown ale is a slightly milder version of the style. That said, it is a very good beer.
The beer pours a beautiful very dark brown color. As it's consumed, it leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass. It's smell is mostly a mix of malts with a little bit of hops. Upon the first sip, I encountered was of a spicy and sweet malt mixed with a hint of choclate and biscuit flavor as well. The finish is slightly has a slight hint of bitter hops and coffee. The mouthfeel is medium, not too heavy, not too light.
Overall, this beer is very drinkable and an excellent brown ale. Some people that like much thicker, stronger brown ales probably won't like it much, as the BBC's brown ale leans more on the "casual" beer drinker's side. However, this is a good thing, as it's a complex beer, while maintaining a good level of drinkability. One important note, make sure you try this brew at the right temperature (about 50 degrees). If you try it too cold, it just doesn't taste the same. A solid offering from the BBC.
