12oz. bottle served in a willibecker. Pours a lovely translucent mahogany with a loose, quarter inch, off-white head that quickly sizzles and disperses into a broken, fizzy slick. Some spots and swaths of lacing are revealed during the tasting. Nose expresses smoked beechwood and hints of caramel malt. Taste consistent with nose; however, I also get a hint of chocolate somewhere in the mix. Mouthfeel is light in body with an assertive carbonation just shy of prickly. All and all, a nice representation of the style. Not as big as a Schlenkerla beer but well done nonetheless.

Appearance: amber in color with a 1/4" head.

Smell: like smokiness with some fresh bread.

Taste: caramel, bread, grass, and a bit of smokiness. Mild bitterness.

Mouthfeel: lighter in body. Crisp from start to finish. Mildly refreshing.

Overall: a very easy to drink lager that is not overly smoked. Just enough smoke that this goes well with some BBQ.

Poured one and a half bottles into a half liter stein, pours a deep rich garnet infused mahogany with a large fluffy off white head that settles very slowly leaving multiple broken rings behind as it does.Mild smoke and toasted grain mainly stand out in the nose, faint brown sugar-like sweetness is detected as well.A little prickly in the mouth with a light to medium feel.More of a mild smoke flavor but it's there with mild sweetness and cereal grain notes in the finish. Not bad, would be good for a beginner of the style, not like drinking a Westphalian ham like more traditional versions.

Appearance: Deep clean amber-ruby with off-white suds and no lace.

Aroma: Righteous wood smoke. Very nice.

Taste: Heavy malts and smoke here, in a lighter bodied brew. Not as “meaty” as the real German counterparts, but still a solid brew.

It looks very dark brown, with red highlights. Topped by a foamy off white head. Moderate retention leaves a thin film, and sheets of lacing are left behind.
It smells like a campfire. Wood smoke and bacon grease. Not much else, to be honest, except for a big brown bread malt backbone.
Okay, so the smoke is more restrained and subtle on the palate. The beer opens up like a bock with rich sweet brown bread, toasty, with some toffee. Hints of molasses and licorice as well. Then the smoke comes in on the finish, light but it's there. Hints of bacon and pork. Finishes fairly clean with a just of touch of momentary smokiness lingering.

Well, I think this is my first ever smoked beer, aside from Stone Smoked Porter. It's not bad, but I don't think it's something I would want regularly, either.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a diet cola color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of dark malts, some smoke. Taste is dark malts, meats, smoke is present at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a unique beer worth trying.

Pours a dark brown, fairly clear, little head

Smells of Smokey oak. Taste is woody, roasted malt and light breadiness

Lower than average carbonation, smooth, dry Smokey finish

Interesting beer....would love to pair with some nice brisket!

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with a May 2018 expiration date. Sampled on February 4, 2018.

It pours a handsome looking mahogany brown amber with decent clarity and consistent carbonation bubbles streaming up to the creamy, white head. Some lacing.

The aroma emits a notable sweet bready malt character but little to no smokiness. Low hop profile.

The body is smooth and medium.

Similar to the aroma, the taste emphasizes sweet caramel malts and no smoked malts. It tastes good I will admit but it doesn't taste smoke, which I think was the point. Mild bitter finish.

A: Frumpy light tan head has a thick batter consistency, standing 0.5 inches with a bubbly and spongey texture. Cola-caramel coloring is a burnt Brazilian cherry when back-lighted. Momentarily lasting head is washy afterwards with a mid-range volume of carbonation, loosely packed, and of large size. Washy and spotty lacing on the vessel persists long into the drink.

S: Beautiful wet, smokey ash and smoked meat and bacon. Toasty woody caramel notes with a mid-level tone holds rather weakly. Nice initial wiff from the bottle gives you a much better perception.

T: Nice burnt caramel and smokey ash notes. Toasty malt, bacon and smoked slim jim. Smoked pine hops, earthy charred wood with some sweet dark fruit, black cherries and toasted crystal and munich malts.

M: Crisp lager like bubbly texture and composition, syrupy mid-level malt depth. Smokey ash afterfeel.

O: A generally good first impression, aromatic wise, Nice level of wet smokey ash and malt with a good drink-ability factor and appeal without being overwhelming. Multiple approach.

I enjoy a good smokey beer and this one did not disappoint.

Poured into a perfect pint glass and was a dark amber with a 2 finger head which dissipated rather quickly.

Mild, smokey aroma gave way to a slightly stronger smokey flavor. Remined me of a Boston Lager with smoke added.

Would probably enjoy this again.

Samuel Adams Smoked Lager | Boston Beer Company (Samuel Adams). Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this has a three finger thick off-white head, with spotty lacing, and a deep amber body.

Not much smoke in the scent; nicely roasted malts regardless.

I taste the smoke flavor mixing wonderfully with the malts. Smooth, clean finish.

Medium mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

I'll choose to give Samuel Adams Smoked Lager | Boston Beer Company (Samuel Adams) an overall rating of a 4.5

Pours a light copper with a tan head. Smell is dominated by the smokiness and malt, with some sweet and bready notes as well. Flavor is not as strong as other rauchbiers I have had, but still a very nice take on the style. The smoky flavor does overwhelm the palate, and after a few sips really is really strong in the finish and after taste. The malt comes through nice for a well balanced beer. Nice medium mouthfeel, nothing harsh or off-putting. Overall a nice beer, for those that like smoked beers, this one is worth checking out.
