Very clear straw yellow colored with a bright white rocky head full of dimples that lingers long and gradually recedes back leaving legs of lacing around the glass. Very low aroma of honey malt. Flavors of honey malt and grassy notes, some lemony nuances, medium bitterness. Expected more citrus, I believe this is all cascade. Full and creamy mouthfeel. Overall a decent session beer, good gateway beer. Obviously way ahead of its time, it was probably considered rich in flavor in its day, but is merely better than average today. Great to be tasting a bit of brewing history, cheers to Jim Koch for undertaking this project.

From old, undated notes. Poured from a bottle.

Clear yellow color.

Bright white head; spotty lace.

Light clove & banana bread nose; not much there.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Slight bread flavor; boring maltiness.

Bud Light flavor minus the corn. Not good.

Substantial clarity for this pale ale, yellow, full inch of head, white on top. Aroma was toasted cereal grains, not much in the way of hopping.

Taste, bud ale. Coors ale. Along those lines. Fractionally hopped, but prolly the high end of back in the day. This is just more expensive bmc ale type of stuff for me. Neat idea to bring it back, but its a dinosaur.

L: Pours brilliant gold under a clingy 1” white foam collar.
S: white bread, light malts.
T: Malt driven bread to biscuit with a moderate bitter hop accent on the finish.
F: Very creamy, medium body and carbonation.
O: A very drinkable classic that is somewhat run of the mill by today’s standards.

Golden yellow, clean. Straw, very mild citrus, pale malt. Maltier than most pales, bright and clean.
