Presentation: 12oz bottle freshness notched for June 2017 poured into a pint glass.

Look: Clear, red brown coloration with a one finger tan head. Good head retention.

Smell: Malt forward with a moderate intensity.

Taste: Malts, light toasted grain. No noticeable hops so the flavor just fades into a watery finish.

Feel: Thinner side of medium with moderate carbonation give this beer a smooth but not creamy feel. Finishes slightly dry on the tongue.

Overall: An OK beer. It's not bad, just doesn't do anything to stand out from the crowd.

I got this beer as part of a variety pack put out by Sam Adams. Since it's the St. Patrick's time of year I thought this would be the perfect beer to try out.

This beer pours a ruby red color that has a combination of amber and copper hues and is clear with very light carbonation. The head is taupe in color and frothy in appearance, dissipating slowly to a rocky layer with a neck. 3.75/5 The aroma is of moderate intensity and leans heavily toward sweet as opposed to sharp. Notes of grain, white bread, sweet caramel, and toasted wheat bread all come out quite nicely and lend a very noticeable sweetness. There is really no hop profile to speak of here although there is a bit of fruitiness in the way of raisins/dates that comes through. 3.75/5 The flavor is of equal intensity as the aroma with more of a lean towards bitter instead of sweet, although not by much. The grain and sweet caramel of the aroma shows up in the flavor as well, but the hops come out to play much more strongly with a very earthy presence, along with a bit of spice shining through. The malt leads the flavor profile off but the hops kick in quite quickly. The finish is of moderate length and intensity with the bitterness once again coming through more strongly than the sweetness of the malt. 3.25/5 This is a light-medium bodied beer that features light to moderate carbonation and a slick but astringent sensation on the tongue along with a bit of prickliness in places. There is really no drying and it comes across as a bit watery at times. 3.5/5 This is an ok Irish Red that is quite light, even for the style. It is a beer that can be paired with food or imbibed without. More than anything I was a bit bored with this beer. I'm not sure why, it just doesn't do it for me. Maybe because of the watery quality that comes through? 3.5/5

Pours a clear dark amber/pale reddish brown producing 3 fingers of tan, moderately lasting, frothy head that leaves nice spidery webs & rings of lace. Aroma is toast & caramel malts, ale yeast, fresh & dried white fruits with an earthy, floral hop profile. Taste is toast, caramel malt sweetness, roasted nuts & a heady fruitiness backed by an earthy, floral note in the finish. Aftertaste is a toasted/roasted, lasting, bitter, earthy maltiness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation, slightly juciy it finishes grainy, not clean.

Reddish amber colored with a quarter inch of beige resting on top. I smell toasted malt and faint rooibos tea. The taste is showcases the toasted malt/rooibos tea flavor. The mouth is unobtrusive and quaffable.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a clear reddish color with a small white head. The aroma is caramel malt and fruit. The taste is just like the nose.

In a 12 varietal pack. Served in a Guinness glass. Not a lot of head and it dissipates fast with little lacing. But it tastes good! Pleasantly malty and not too thick like some, I'd say this is a good Irish Red from Sam Adam's and Jim Koch's team.
