A: Copper toned, little carbonation, quite cloudy

S: Sweet and yeasty.

T: Sweet like banana bread, some floral bite, and hints of brown sugar.

M: Creamy and low carbonation.

D: Refreshing but sweet and tasty. A real treat, and among the better SA choices.

Pours a dark cola color. Has a very soapy white head, that leaves a good trail of lacing. smells of banana and cloves. has a slight roasted hint to it with generally a light bitter hop smell
Taste is a Good sweet banana. Its almost like a banana split quality. tastes a lot like vanilla ice cream with bananas ( yes that's why i said banana split )
You could definitely couldn't drink a few of these. it does seem to fill you up quite a bit. I drank two and felt kinda bloated and full. Without eating anything.

Poured from a bottle into a Sam Adams Glass.

Appearance: Slightly hazy brown, with about one finger of an off white head.

Smell: Cloves, banana, and some wheat.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste sweet. I can taste clove, banana, some wheat and malts. After taste is an odd fruity flavor.

Overall: Not sure how I feel about this one, I guess it isn't bad, but not preference at all. I will drink what I have, but will not go out of my way to have this one again.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Summit pint/pilsner/weizen glass thing. I really don't know what their new glass is, but it is definitely multi-purpose.

Appearance: Cloudy dark orange without much head retention. Slight lacing.

Smell: Banana, pineapple, mango, clove and peppery hops. Some wheatiness underneath but the yeast really shines through.

Taste: Slightly sour wheat with strong cloves and light banana and other tropical fruits. Somewhat peppery finish.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, medium body, dry (borderline sour) finish.

Drinkability: I have only had a couple Dunkelweizens but this seems quite good and true to style. Plus this is probably the best of Sam Adams' many (too many) wheat beers, just a notch above the Summer Ale and Winter Lager.

Since Sam Adams obviously knows how to make an authentic German Weizen, what the f*** is wrong with their Hefeweizen?

Has an okay color, but is not cloudy enough. I was hoping for something close to opaque, but it is just mildly cloudy. Head formation and retention were not strong.

Has a nice blend of banana and cocoa powder over wheat. Really would be nice if it were more potent.

Having heard that the SA hefe was rather poor, I was unsure how this would be, but I'm impressed. Pretty good hefe characteristics, with that extra layer of dark malty flavors, namely cocoa powder. Has that nice chalky chocolate. Some bready flavors, but spiciness is subdued. Just a bit of clove. A twangy wheat note on there that maybe I would have liked smoothed out.

Pretty smooth. Could use more yeast. In fact, it's hard to tell if this was even bottle conditioned. I shook it out and assumed it was. Still, rich and creamy. Carbonation is just right.

Tastes good and feels smooth, and does not seem to be over 5.5% abv or so. Very easy to drink. I'd buy a sixer of this over a lot of SA's beers, and it's easily the best thing in the harvest pack (even if the mediocre appearance is going to knock the score down a bit). It's hard to get a fresh dunkel, often. This isn't the truest one in the world, but it's a good beer.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a dark golden brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains wheat, bananas, caramelized malts, some spice and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of wheat and a hearty malt character up front. Then some sweet flavors of caramel, bananas and a little bit of citrus come in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a good poundable beer with flavor and substance making it worth drinking for a long time.

The beer pours with almost no lacing. It starts out as a ruby brown at the top and gets progressively lighter until it ends in a ruby orange bottom. The smell is citrus and spice. Nutmeg, clove, allspice. A hint of yeast. That of what you would use tor rise bread - fruit cake-ish. The flavor has the smooth, creamyness banana flavor and the tart-sweetness of apple. Spiced-bread - pumpkinbread. Clove. Mild hop finish. Mouthfeel is decent. Smooth on the tongue despite some carbonation bite in the back of the mouth. Drinkability is passable. Better of two dunkelwizens I've had.

P:  Dark amber with a gentle haze and a bone colored frothy pillow top. Silky lacing that glides around the edges.

S:  Bavarian yeast displays over ripe bananas, mango, cherry alcohol, clove, nutmeg, plums, papaya, applesauce and roasted wheat.  Nice complex nose the blends well.

T/M:  Roasted wheat malt, tropicsl fruits, timid banana bread, clove, and nutmeg. Cinnamon applesauce hides in the background. Much more raw and rustic than the sweet nose. Medium-full body with a touch if stickiness and a brilliant prickly carbonation. Finish starts creamy and leaves dry with lingering apple peel and wheat bitterness.

O:  Complex and well blended. I haven't had too many dunkels but this IMO is pretty tasty. I picked up the harvest seasonal 12 pk and I think this is one of the better ones in the group.

The beer pours an amber color with a thick frothy off-white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a really nice wheat malt scent along with a delicate hefe yeast aroma and a touch of caramel sweetness. It has excellent yeast character with only a minimal crystal malt contribution. The taste is good as well. It has a smooth pale, wheat, and caramel malt flavor. It's dry with a moderate caramel sweetness and plenty of yeast esters. The banana/clove character is ever present with a pretty slick malt profile. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a good drinking dunkel. It's not as sweet as some, but the caramel malt taste is there.

Appearance: Hazy amber, ok head.

Smell: Faint banana, spices, clove.

Taste: Nice! Spices, clove, mild sweetness, a little citrus tang in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Feels a little heavier than most hefe's.

Drinkability: Very tasty, I might pick up a 6er of this if they ever package it that way.

The clear winner of the beers in the fall sampler, I really enjoyed the dunkelweizen. Tasty blend of flavors, and a little more heft than many hefeweizens. Good stuff.

Now available in the Harvest Collection 12 pack.

I was really excited for this one and I'm glad to say it was worth the wait.

Pours a lighter color than I expected, pours like a hefeweizen (hazy) with a shades of brown.

Smelled similar to a hefeweizen (probably that classic german yeast and malted wheat)....slight citrus notes. very nice

Tasted excellent. Lots of malt on this one. The malted wheat and german yeast makes this one taste similar to a hefeweizen, but with much more body thanks to the dark wheat. Really tastey. They should replace their Hefeweizen with this guy.

Drinkaility was awesome. I sure wish there were more than 2

Overall, definitely worth picking up a 12 pack for (in my opinion anyway). If you like hefeweizens and dunkels like I do, be sure to grab this

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Light brown, very clear with a creamy, foamy 1/4" tan head. Leaves thick lacing.

The scent is primarily sweet dried banana chips with some bubble gum and wheaty malt. Just a little clove.

Bready malt and a hint of chocolate up front on the taste with nice grainy wheat and sweet ripe bananas. Ends with a nice banana pudding note, like homemade banana pudding with vanilla wafers. Moderately sweet but balanced. Nice.

Medium bodied and smooth, comes on lush and malty and ends a little drier. Compliments the flavors well.

I am a dunkelweizen fan, and you might call this one a little non-traditional but it's nice. Well balanced with interesting taste notes. It has character. A solid Sam offering.

Bought as part of the new SA mixed 12 pack (good batch of beers I must say!). Pours a cloudy/murky brown color.. nice head to it that stays with the beer the whole time, nice lacing too. Sort of a toffee/nutty aroma to it. Taste is medium bodied, get a hint of the clove/banana hefe taste along with a nice malty taste. Nice smooth finish, pretty drinkable. Not overly tasteful but for the style I guess it fits the description pretty good. Maybe not something I would seek out but a nice change of pace in the mixed 12 pack.

Poured an extremely dark color when only held up to light, it would reveal a dim ruby hue. Nice dead that subdues after a while leaving minimal lacing. Smell is of roastiness like a stout with some lactose ala cream stout along with that banana-ry aroma. Beautiful aroma. Flavor also has that banana ester flavor up front ala Aventinus but also comes with a roastiness. This beer is like a cream/milk stout mixed with a dunkelweizen. Unlike anything I have ever tasted before and absolutely marvelous. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, medium carbonation and very smooth. Extremely drinkable. Wonder what the abv% is?

A - dark brownish amber with an orangish hue; soft, white, cap of dense head that has good retention

S - banana, spice, caramel

T - banana, spice, pepper, caramel, wheat

M - medium bodied, smooth, well carbonated

This is a decent beer that has a good flavor. The yeast adds a nice banana, peppery aroma and flavor. There is also a nice, balanced caramel sweetness throughout. Not bad.

Dark orange/light brown, cloudy beer. Pieces of sediment suspended throughout. Creamy white head. Highly carbonated. Great retention and lacing.

Spices (cloves) and slightly funky yeast in the aroma.

More spice in the flavor, along with some banana and a slight tang. Some bitterness, and a little bit of roasted malt.

Light to medium bodied. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Highly (not overly) carbonated with a lasting dry finish.
