Pours out a dark and very cloudy dark brown with a nice foamy tan head.

Smell. A big dominant clove aroma...the most cloves i've ever smelled in a beer. I like cloves, so this is a good thing for me. Also has a sweetness and a bit of a creaminess that is reminisce of a marshmallow.

Taste. Has a nice spice to it, though the cloves are not nearly as dominant in the flavor as in the aroma, though still quite present. Has a nice sweet maltiness to it along with the spices. Aftertaste has a creaminess with just a touch of a toasted malt.

Mouthfeel. Body is on the fuller side and is creamy. Carbonation is at a proper level.

Overall, a very nice beer. The flavor is good, but i think i like the aftertaste even more. But my favorite aspect of it is the aroma...love the cloves. I like this beer, but wouldnt want more than two in one night, and that may be pushing it. but a pretty good beer.

Presentation: 12 oz longneck, blue label with a picture of the brewer, and the typical notched freshness dating.

Appearance: Poured into my sam adams lager glass, very nice large off white head. Very cloudy reddish brown, lots of haze. Great head retention.

Smell: Bananas and cloves, but not overpowering. Definite yeast smell.

Taste: Light to medium bodied, but very smooth. Low carbonation level leads to high drinkability. Very nice wheat flavors mix well with the banana and clove esters.

Overall impression: Nice and drinkable, hides the alcohol very well. This is a nice beer that would do well as part of the regular lineup!

Cloudy brown ale poured into a Duvel tulip. Gives a nice 4 finger head that sticks around for awhile.

Smell is banana, clove, a little fusel alcohol. Very inviting.

Taste is wheat and cloves up front, followed by a very strong banana essence. Maybe a little orange peel or grapefruit in there as well.

A very good selection for the Longshot competition. I would probably buy this occasionally if it was offered on its own.

pours a hazy dark mahogany with a tan head that was just huge but dropped into about a 1/2 sheet covering the top of the beer.

the aroma is fruity, wheaty, banana, yeastie, emm good.

the flavor is malty, wheaty, caramelized malty, toffee, firm bitterness, slight herbal flavor, but this beer in immensely malty.

over all a very good beer from sam adams, love the long shots.

Wow! Agressive and characterful -- yet delicately balanced. The beer opens with a bright ruby / brown / amber hue, mild haze, and with an abundance of carbonation, head formation, and retention. Laces well. Strong aromas of wheat malt, barley, clove, and campfire-ish smokiness. The taste is dominated by smoke character (part smoke malt / part phenols), and with a quick follow-up of spicy cloves, white pepper, cumin, and corriander -- all could be yeast flavors. No bananna or fruitiness to mention. Back-up flavors of wheat breads, sweet barley malt, and overall earthiness. The balance is defineatly heavy on the phenolic side, and light on the estery side. The body is amplified by the carbonation, while giving a mild carbonic bite and drying out the beer. Finishes dry and a bit ashy / powdery. Don't let the score fool you, with this one-- I am one and done.

This beer pours a cloudy brown color. The head is two inches in height, fluffy, and very light tan in color. Lacing is thorough, and lasts until the beer is gone. This is how a weizenbock is supposed to look. The aroma is bursting with banana, clove, black pepper, and bubble gum. The taste has everything the aroma has, but with a little more clove. The mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with lively carbonation, and a velvety texture. Overall, this is a great beer. I would love for BBC to brew this again, even if it were only in The Brewmaster's Collection.

Cloudy brown/amber with a 3/4" head. The head falls slowly to a cap and leaves behind nice lacing. Lots of bubble gum, yeast, roasted malts in the nose...some clove as well. Fruit, light chocolate or roast qualities..bubble gum yeastiness and even a little banana and clove spiciness in the finish along with an almost sour twang - all the right qualities. Medium bodied - low to mid level of carbonation. Very good.

a: Khaki head with a meringue consistency fill my weizen glass to the top. Impressive retention and good lacing. The beer is a hazy chestnut brown in color.

s: Nice mix of toasted wheat, toasted barley, whole grain banana bread, and papery noble hops. Big aromas of overripe banana, molasses-rich brown sugars, and light clove. Some interesting notes of bittersweet chocolate.

m: Carbonation a bit low, but the soft feeling is nice...on the light side of medium. Body on the full side.

t: Toasted wheat on the tongue with notes of light chocolate barley and whole wheat banana bread. Some yeasty notes as expected. Some brown sugar. A nice roasted touch in the finish with flavors of noble hops and a light bitterness. Love the chocolate aspect and the progression from sweet to roasty flavor. Full flavored and complex. Light medicinal note in the finish, but I'll overlook it since it's pretty warm by this point.

d: enjoyable but limited...heavy

A: Pours a murky brown with a big frothy head. Moderate lacing.

S: Big estery smell with phenolic banana and clove aromas.

T: A complex and spicy taste with a subtle banana flavor. A crisp bitterness in the finish. Nice, but the flavor is not quite as full as I've become accustomted to expect from a weizenbock.

M: Medium-full body and a smooth creaminess. The carbonation is a bit too much for the style and this beer in particular.

D: There are some truly magnificent weizenbocks out there, and this one falls short of them, yet it is a very good and well-made beer. Definitely better than the grape pale ale that accompanied it in the six pack. Props to Rodney and SA.

Two fingers of foam fall to a compact head in a Schwelmer Weizen glass. Range of small to large bubbles throughout. When swirled a fair amount of spotty lace results.

Phenolic clove aroma, spicy gingersnap cookies. No banana, but that's ok. It's pretty unique, and appealing for a Weizenbock.

Clove and ginger, licorice, with a peanut butter milkshake consistency. Fairly low in carbonation, but it works with such a hearty style. Vague astringency/bitterness of hops way in the background. It lacks the banana esters and almond nuttiness of Aventinus, but the Longshot still manages to hold it's own.

I was tempted to pour two bottles into the half-liter glass, but decided to limit it to one this time.

I've enjoyed most of the Longshot brews thus far, but this one (and the Old Ale last year) stand out as being my favorites.
Pours an dark brown color that reminds me of chocolate milk. It's super cloudy and very dense looking. There's a pretty thin head that forms, but it's not as heady as the heller weizenbocks. The color isn't as dark as some, but it's really got a very bold coloration to it.
Smells like banana-bread and Yoohoo. Simple, but wonderful.
Tastes sweet and chocolaty up front, but then you start to get some of the fruitier flavors with bananas, coconut, and tea berry.
Some wheat beers can be chalky and while this one looks like it should be, it isn't. It's as smooth as silk.
Not too boozy (a weizenbock trademark) and not too thick either.
I'd love to see more of this beer. This is easily the among best Weizenbocks I've had.

A - Pours a dark, dark red/brown with a mixed bubble head of tan foam and decent lacing.

S - Very fruity, with an almost Belgian spiciness and molasses. Slight funk and muted floral hop round out the aromas.

T - Quite sweet and tart up front, and lots of fruit. The middle is an absolutely superb blend of caramel/toffee/molasses, rich fruitiness - raisins, prunes, and a hint of hops, before finishing with a light bitterness.

M - Very creamy, soft body. Substantial.

D - Very, very drinkable weizenbock. Superb.

Wow, cannot believe this is a homebrew. Very nice head on the pour. The nose has all kinds of scents. Apricot, cherries, blueberries, really nice smell to it. Alcohol is a bit strong, you can taste it, or at least I can. Wheaty, cherry flavors, plum perhaps. Has the feel of a belgian beer, very yeasty. May have a belgian yeast strain. Very nice work. I like the Longshot brews I've tried.

Pours a hazed caramel/chestnut with 3+ fingers of rocky tan head. Above average lacing & good head retention

S: Bananas & bubblegum

T: Fruity (apples & pears) with juicy fruit gum flavors along with some grainyness up front. Some brown sugar notes, along slight peppery flavor & some rye bread type flavor as this warms. Finishes with a nice spicy rush of flavor more fruittyness, a bit of dryness & more juicyfruit

MF: Medium bodied with low low carbonation & a nice warming sensation

Drinks pretty good, but I'm feeling the booze already on 1. This is a keeper IMO

Pours a cloudy dark brown , smallish head , a little lacing.

Smell has banana , clove , and bubblegum.

The taste of this beer is about the same as aroma with a more of a spicy phenolic character.

Mouthfeel is medium, good carbonation.

Overall a nice Longshot starter for me.

I found this at the Andersons store in Toledo, sold as singles. Poured into a tumbler, hazy opaque brown color with thick spitty froth. The aroma was unmistakable, definitive weizenbock. Lots of cloves, plums, bananas, really nice. The fruity esters pull through in the taste, delicious and on par with other great weizenbocks. Great job, I wish I could brew like this.

12oz bottle poured into a paulaner glass. Murky amber with a nice light tan head, good lace at the start. Smell of banana and clove very prominent. Fairly strong on the bubble gum and clove taste. Nice carbonation with a solid mouthfeel. This is a beer I could drink a few of in one sitting. This may be the best Longshot SA has put out. Unfortunately, I have to buy 3 grape pale ales to get 3 weizenbocks. I would love to try this on draught.

A - Pours a raisin brown with a small tan head and spots of lacing.

S - Clove, banana, bubblegum with a light yeasty and wheat bread aroma.

T - Strong clove with a solid wheat malt base and a mix of spice and banana.

M - Medium mouthfeel and chewy with a warming alcohol feel.

D - Congrats Rodney. A very tasty Weizenbock.

Pours a hazy brown body with a light tan head that leaves a bit of lacing. Big clove aroma which is met in the flavor by a kick of hops and a bit of melanoidins. This beer is on the bitter side of the style, but I think that just mixes things up a bit. There are also some nice caramel and toffee flavors and what might be a slight dry roasted flavor. I think I might have gotten a slight note of diacetyl in the aroma, which is unfortunate, but hardly detracts from the beer. Overall, this is a pretty decent weizenbock, nothing I'd ever turn down.

It took a couple tries but I found exactly what I was looking for in a weizenbock in the LongShot.

Surprisingly, this one pours a milk chocolate hue with a huge beige cap. This seems dark for the style, but I have limited experience with weizenbocks.

Smells great with notes of clove, sweet bread, yeast and banana.

Taste follows the smell. Clove and banana upfront leads to warming alcohol and some pepper. Yeast, alcohol and clove linger on the tongue. Great.

Feels thick and almost chewable with moderate carbonation. I dig it.

I loved downing this one. I can only hope other weizenbocks are as delicious as the Longshot. I could drink this one all night, but I'm not sure I would session it. Great overall.

Its good I tried this after the grape pale ale. Pours murky brown with a thick, creamy tan head. Nose is ripe banana, clove, brown sugar, toast; like a fresh banana bread. Thick mouthfeel. Great taste. Again like a banana bread, but with spicy hops, molasses, and bubblegum yeast esters. Did not expect such a good beer.

An excellent example of the style.

A hazy, opaque deep brown with maybe a hint of a ruby highlight. A rich, creamy, thick, lasting head with great lacing all the way down my weizen glass.

Aroma is a bit flat, but the banana sweetness and yeasty esters are present that I'm looking for.

Taste is a rolling caramel sweetness with a burst of banana flavor and just a faint hint of spicy clove. Excellent clean finish. Alcohol comes out as it warms, but is never overly obtrusive.

Creamy, medium-full mouth with pleasant carbonation.

Wish there was a regularly brewed local option for this!

Now this is a damn good beer. Pours a murky brown color, might even boarder on off putting, but the taste? Delicious. Strong malt backbone, with a dates/caramel flavor, mixed with vanilla. Almost like a vicious whiskey. Complex, but not overwhelming.

Overall, this is the type of thing I was expecting from a "Homebrew" collection. The grape pale ale wasn't bad, but this is a well done beer with lots to offer. Worth checking out.

Served from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours dark with a small creamy white head.

Smell: Wheat, banana, yeast and a slight clove aroma.

Taste: Much like the smell, starts with a wheat taste and then moves on to banana and yeast flavors. There is a slight clove spiciness throughout. There is also a very very slight alcohol flavor but it is not overpowering.

Mouthfeel: Smooth Mouthfeel with the right amount of carbonation.

Drinkability: I could have a few of these in a sitting.

This is a good beer from the longshot contest. I look forward to see what other types of beer this contest will produce.
