Pours a nice Amber with an off white head that dissipates quickly.

Smells of cherry, sour grape, and earthy funk, slight mustiness.

Tart cherry and sour grape with a slight musty earth bitterness. Finishes dry.

12oz bottle - no legible date - poured into a Stella Artois goblet at 48F.

Pours a slightly hazed, bright copper hue, topped with two fingers of creamy white head that quickly reduces to a thick cap, leaving just a touch of lacing behind.

Nose: Immediately more funky than I anticipated. Dusty, woody brett notes, old cedar, fermented cherries, grape, leather, wet straw, lemon zest, some warm, toasty malts, and a little pucker of acedic pediococcus. Surprisingly complex, but take and inviting.

Palate: I will immediately state that unfortunately, the flavour does not live up to the aroma. It starts off with a very frail, grainy backbone, almost akin to a pilsner. Some of the aromas do translate to the palate, but in an unusually dilute way. Like an essence. There's practically no tartness - neither from lactobacillus nor pediococcus. It does however retain some of the dusty dry brett character. There is still a hint of that aged, fermented cherry/dark fruit note, and a little touch of toastiness on the very back end. There is some light floral, pithy, and resinous hop character as well, also on the very back end - which ultimately paves the way for a fairly dry, quick, finish that accentuates the graininess, while ramping down on any hint of "wildness" that there was to be found.

Mouthfeel/Body: The beer is light-bodied, with a slight roundness from the malt, and a faint buttery feel. Effervescence is surprisingly weak and loose, even going as far as being slightly on the flat side. It is, however, relatively crisp, and could potentially be fairly refreshing on a hot summer day.

Overall: It's no surprise that Samuel Adams would play it this safe when venturing into the "wild ale" world. They dipped their toes, tested the waters, but ultimately kept this very toned down and a little too quiet. It's almost as if they took their Sam '76 and pitched a tiny bit of bacteria in it for a minute, and called it a day. It certainly has the aromatic traits of a wild ale, but the flavour just lacks that pucker, kick, and complexity that makes a wild ale wild. It's more like a blend of 15% wild ale, and 85% Sam lager. Nevertheless, it isn't bad by any means - certainly drinkable, and I respect the effort.

From the mixed 12 pack from Market Basket.
Mostly clear deep yellow in color with a thin white head that dissipate quickly. Light earthy funk and a faint tartness with some bready malt underneath. Pretty tame for a sour, maybe its a gateway sour beer.

Purchased in a Sam Adams variety pack. Wasn't expecting much from this one but was pleasantly surprised. Would recommend.

Got a 12 oz bottle of this to try. Poured into one of my tulip glasses. This beer pours a mainly clear, light copper color with a white head that's about an inch thick when first poured with lots of streams of little bubbles fairly rapidly and continuously rising to the beer's surface. Settles eventually to a thin to medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass. Aromas of some bready malts, oak, and some yearly, barnyard funk notes. The taste is pretty much the same, with some toasted bready malts and wheat that gives way to some oak, funky, and slightly sour flavors. A hint of green apple tart as well. Not bad, in fact fairly good, but this needs all the flavors overall to be stronger. This beer's flavor profile doesn't reach its full potential. There especially isn't enough of a bit with the sour, funk, and tartness. Has a somewhat crisp, slightly smooth, slightly prickly, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Not bad, but not great. Just pretty okay all around.

In the traditions of Kriek, Flanders and Gose, the Boston Beer Company tests the tart palate with hints of dark cherry fruits on a slightly wine-like base for a simplified sourness.

Pouring a rusty ruby color, the hazy Kosmic Sour builds a loose and short soapy foam stance ahead of a cherry laced sourness and a fruitiness that tingles the jaws slightly. A cracker-like sweetness ensues along with hints of pastry, cobbler and wheat.

As the flavors roll along, the taste of cherry invites other flavors of red apple, rose wine, lime, lemon and gooseberry until eventually taking on a watered down taste of cherry sodas. A faint and peppery bitterness contends with the light linger of sweetness while its tart, nearly sour finish is shy of complete.

Medium bodied but fuller for sour ale, the beer has a balance that’s sure to appease those who are testing the acidic waters but for the fans of full-blown sour ales, this offering falls just short.

Meh. Not my sort of beer. I respect the hell out of the Boston brewing company but like a lot of their side-projects I feel like this is just a brewer having some fun. I’d do the same thing if I owned a brewery- experiment and try new things. I’m sure somebody loves this.

Purchased a 6 pack at the store - it looked good. Pours a little flat, not much of a head. Color is amber, almost copper in color. Smells like it's going to be a good sour, but it's just not that sour. Some kind of fruit in the background, but not too strong. Could be a little more sour. Easy to drink, and would make a good summer beer.
