Bottle poured into my Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass.

A - nice red body. Very clear with a thin tan - white head.

S - lots of spices. Cinnamon, cloves, allspice, nutmeg... and some malts.

T - again with spices. Not too harvesty in my opinion. Again there's a Malthus sweetness and lots of spices as mentioned in the s melly. No lingering bitterness but I think the slight hop presence would be sorely missed. They provide a nice balance that prevents the beer from being way too sweet. Its a nice taste for what it is.

M - above average level of carbonation that also helps offset some sweetness, almost like you see in a hard cider.

A slightly above average pumpkin ale. Probably wont get another twelve pack but I will drink it if its around.

Appearance: Beautiful semi-translucent dark brown. No haziness to speak of. Had a fizzy light brown head but that faded quickly.

Aroma: The all the spice of a pumpkin pie without the pumpkin. Decently malty. Not expecting much bitterness based off of the smell.

Taste: Those spices from the nose explode on your tongue, especially cinnamon. There is a darkness in the flavor that is hard to place, but I think it's a smokey flavor in the background. Not sure what's causing that flavor profile but it's not necessarily unwelcome. No hops to speak of but the spices give off a flavorful bitterness that echoes around your palette long after drinking. I wish the head would have stuck around because what little of it I had sort of played the role of a pie crust in the flavor. There are some great things happening in this beer, unfortunately they aren't well balanced and it's more like the different flavors are all jumbled up instead of working together.

Mouthfeel: Super effervescent. A little on the watery side. Would have liked a more medium bodied beer for this style.

Final Thoughts: Like a lot of Samuel Adams beers, their Harvest Pumpkin Ale looks great and smells pretty good but comes up a little short in the actual drinking of it. If they toned down the spices a bit and upped the O.G. then this one might be a real winner, but for now it's just an above average beer that would pair well with a cool autumn night around a campfire.

A- Brilliantly dark amber. Kind of a thin head that went away quickly.
S- The smell is not much for pumpkins and more for spices, cloves, alcohol on the nose.
T- Not very sweet. I had the Saranac version of this beer and it was much sweeter. The first flavor is the sweetness of the pumpkin and then followed by the spiciness of the pie spice and peculiarly enough back to a sweet flavor.
M- Ummm, very light for a pumpkin ale although the finish leaves a cotton mouth feel.

Overall I always look forward to drinking my pumpkin ales in the Fall and there is nothing wrong with this one... you could kind of call it a dry pumpkin ale since it isn't very sweet.

Mostly clear, reddish brown color. Head is thick and offwhite. Good retention, little to no lace.

Pleasant smell, in that you can pick up both pumpkin and the usual pumpkin spices. Most beers seem to be one or the other, this seems to have both the meat and the spice. Decent enough malty backbone.

No pumpkin flavor, it's all spice. Some maltiness comes through in the taste, but this beer is all spice, likely too much, and it keeps on well into the swallow.

It's just too spicy. Nothing else comes through. It's smooth for a second, then the spice cracks you upside the head. Almost sweet, but again, the spice overrides it.

Overall it's ok. I can deal with spicy beer, I'd just like more sweetness to balance but this was lacking balance altogether.

A: This beer pours a very dark amber color, has lots fizz type bubbles like a soda has. Very thin head that has a slight tan color. No lacing.

S: Very strong pumpkin spice aroma with some small hints of cinnamon and sweet malts.

T: Lots of pumpkin flavor with some sweet malts up front. The taste follows through with some cinnamon, nutmeg, and some spice.

M: Mouth is sweet and somewhat creamy. I wouldnt say the body is full enough to give this a pumpkin pie feel.

O: I think August is too early for this beer to be released as I'm sure I will enjoy this beer once fall officially comes. Overall, good seasonal beer, lots of flavor and spice. I could drink a six pack of this for sure!

Bottle poured into pint glass.

Appearance: Dark amber/brown with minimal head and decent lacing, decent bubbling from carbonation.

Smell: Pumpkin pie all the way. Spices and pumpkin are up front with a little hop and malt presence:

Taste: Pumpkin and spices, nutmeg and cinnamon. Slight malt and hop flavors to keep this one from being overly sweet.

Mouthfeel: Heavily carbonated up front with a smooth finish.

Overall: Each year I have this I like it more. I am not sure if the brew is changing or my tastes are changing as the years go by.
