served from a 12oz. bottle -- best by Sept. 09 -- into a pint glass
Pours an attractive shade of medium-dark brown, but it remains translucent. Its not unlike a glass of iced tea, really. The billowing, two-finger head leaves rocky lacing as it recedes to a small ring.
Tons of bready malt aromas dominate the nose of this beer. Some fruit smells, dark fruit mostly with hints of cherry, come out to play. I get some vanilla, too.
Very malty on the tongue. A small bit of dark fruit on the beginning and end of a swallow. Much more of a spice component that I was expecting. There are more spices in this beer, it seems, than in the witbier that it was packaged with in the Longshot box! For my palate, the spices don't lend anything positive to the beer. The more I drink of this bottle, the more the spices are building up on my tongue and obscuring the malts.
Mouthfeel is fine. Its not full-bodied or creamy or anything, but its fine enough for a nice bock. Heavily spiced beers will almost always suffer in the drinkability dept. in my reviews and this is no exception.
As enticing as the look and aromas of this beer are, the spice components kill it for me.This promising bock is ultimately not for me.

Medium brown color with small head and lace.
Aroma was bready, malty, grape notes and dates.
Taste was sweet with bread notes and grains.
Some alcohol in finish yet the finish was dry with medium carbonation and body.
The balance was so so.
Still, worth having this one.
Enjoyable.

Another bock that pours thin, brown, whispy 1/5" head. Aroma is muted.
Taste imparts a more dark fruit alcoholic british mild brown ale vibe. Tobacco, plums, prunes, cigars, tobacco.

Review based on notes taken 7-2-10.
I have been overlooking this brew for a long time. Wanted to give it a shoot before age took to strong a toll. A vigorous pour gets early three fingers of fluffy biscuit tan head. Head turns quickly rocky as it slowly fades. Body is a deep mahogany amber tone. Nose is very faint with notes of minerals and toasted grains, both are tough to detect. Taste is malty up front with some snappy almost crisp fruit tones coming in afterwards. Malts stay prominent and get long and thick on the back of the tongue the more you drink. Mouthfeel quickly becomes thick and cloying. Drinkability is not bad but man, this beer really stays thick and malty all over the palate.
