I like to get this occasionally at restaurants since I live in Boston. Can't get in bottles or cans, only on tap in/around Boston. Very solid beer.

Didn't know anything about this beer until I got to the brewery in Boston last summer. The brewery was giving samples of this along with a few others. Since it's only sold in Boston I'll need to make my way back there if I ever want to have this beer again. The color of the beer is a deep red color with a pretty decent looking head on it. The lacing was sporadic along the glass. The smell has a pleasent aroma of hops and malts. The taste also has a hoppy and malty flavor. The mouthfeel is drinkable and just about medium bodied. Overall it's a good brew and really worth checking out when in Boston.

On tap. Pours a clear, dark copper. Aroma is very malty. Completely malty actually. I was unsure of the style or couldn't remember it. Smells of caramel, bread and soft roast. Flavor is the same.bread crust and toffee. Devoid of hoppiness, even as a subsidiary flavor. Has some fullness to the feel at a relatively low ABV.

As far as I still know you can only get this in Boston. I had this on my trip to Boston in '11. Can't remember the bar name but it was right by the Oyster House.

Second Favorite Sam Adams beer next to Noble Pils. If you can only get this on tap around Boston, I suggest getting it and you won't regret it.

I tasted this at the Sam Adams brewery tour.

A: brick red color, good clarity, two-finger head with adequate head retention.

S: malt sweetness, smoky note, caramel, some floral hops.

T: very well balanced, plenty of caramel malt and a little smokiness up front, the floral hops mingle with the sweetness in the middle, and the finish is gently bitter with some lingering sweetness.

M: middle-weight, medium coronation.

D: a very pleasant English style red ale. I could spend an evening drinking these.
