Good Belgium style Tripel. Not better than actual Belgium Trappist though. Solid deal when buying barrel room set of 3 from Costco. Very balanced and easy drink. Will continue to buy but not my go-to beer

The nose is not strong as many triples, but the flavour makes up for it, containing the familiar banana notes, combined with toffee and a sour under note. For the price, this is a remarkable deal and enjoyable drink.

From a bottle poured into a pint glass.

The first thing I noted upon pouring this ale was the thick, rich head which immediately accumulated. It lasted a medium amount of time before giving way to some bright white lacing. The beverage itself is a deep gold color, nearly a light amber, and as cloudy as one would expect from an ale of this sort. The fragrance is of sweet malt, some fuits and spices, and a bit of yeast.

Though there are a multitude of small, rapidly rising bubbles in the ale, there is little carbonation in the mouth feel. The mouth feel is instead mostly sticky but not viscous. Similarly, this is a rather sweet ale for a Belgian/Belgian-style Tripel, but not overly so. The sweetness rapidly fades into the spice and smoke undertones, which linger longer on the tongue.

Overall a solid beer, though not at all superior to Victory Golden Monkey, which is a cheaper and very, very similar ale. Next time I throw down $12 on a belgian/belgian-style ale, it will be for La Chouffe, not this one. Still, all in all a good beer. Worth a try.

Poured from the 1 pint, 9.4 ounce barrel shaped corked and caged bottle that I bought as a part of the Barrel Room Collection pack at Sam’s Club a few months ago into a clean, clear glass. No “best by” date observed by me on the bottle. The Barrel Room Collection has three such bottles in it.
Note: It was somewhat difficult to get the cork out of this bottle. I believe each bottle in the Collection came out to be something close to $8.64 or so.

A Nice golden translucent body under a huge off white head. True to the style and delicious looking. 4.0

S Belgian yeast and sweet malt and it has the presence of a classic Tripel, my favorite style. Some fruity spices also detected in the smell. 4.0

T Solid Tripel with some oak sense to it. Sweet malt, the Belgian yeast and that fruit has more of a presence in the taste than what I picked up in the smell. Perhaps the sweet malt in the taste carried the fruit taste? Anyway I am happy to report that this is a good tasting Tripel. I will also be happy to finish the bottle!

M Appropriate Tripel mouthfeel which is a bit of sticky syrup feel but overall this Tripel and most properly brewed ones disappear quickly in your mouth but leave a thin film of sweet goodness afterwards. 4.0

D/O Drinkability is high for a 10% beer. I will be happy to continue sipping this one. Overall a very solid Tripel, my favorite of the Barrel Room Collection. 4.5

Notes: I held this one last of the Barrel Room Collection because I thought that I may enjoy it best (again my favorite style is Tripel) and I was not disappointed.

Amber in color with excellent clarity. Vibrant carbonation bubbles are present. There's a half inch of tightly knit off white head. Strong aroma of light Belgian candy sugar and pale malt. There's plenty of light fruity tastes like a touch of raspberries and cheery. Pale malt and light candy sugar are also very much present. The mouth is heavily carbonated and bone dry.

Looks and feels like a tripel. It has a dull, overly sweet aroma without eliciting any particular flavors. It may become more complex with aging, but my initial impression is not a good one.

It's hard to think of Sam Adams as a "microbrewer" anymore, but they make some good beers. This is the first time I have come across this one and I was very pleasantly surprised. It checks all the boxes, looks great, nice big foamy head with good lacing, perfect mouthfeel, great flavor. The alcohol is well hidden. Overall just a very nice beer.

Appearance: golden-orange body, effervescent; huge frothy off-white head, long lasting, good lacing

Smell: malty; sweet; peppery; faint Belgian yeast; I can smell the "Tropical Fruit" as on the label, but I couldn't tell you what kind

Taste: Malty with a good bit of Tripel sugary sweetness; very well balanced and extremely tasty; finishes sweet with just the right amount of hop bitterness lingering; this is a great beer

Mouthfeel: creamy, almost syrupy, but thin enough it's appropriate for the style

Remarks: best Sammy Adams I've ever had

the quality here is enormous, its rich smooth creamy beer with a vibrant Belgian yeast strain and a ton of grain character at its base, but for my palate, it was too sweet to drink much of, although that doesn't at all diminish my appreciation for it. hazy blonde, obviously viscous, but also supremely well carbonated, amassing a several inches high white impenetrable head on top. the nose and taste show a ton of candy sugar left over, oats in the body, and the oak adding a vanilla and pear sweetness to this thing. its sweet double jeopardy, but I still dig it for being as enormous as it is and not showing its booze, for bringing oak into the fold so well, and for offering a beer this good at such a fair price. round in feel, huge body, sticky sweet, but its aided in drinkability by all the bubbles. wheat is fresh, yeast is amazingly bold in flavor and capacity to survive the potential energy of this thing, and expressive in a new way for a Belgian tripel. while not my personal favorite, I really admire this beer, and indeed this entire barrel room project from sam adams.

L: Nice clear golden color. Big whitish billowy foam swells and takes several minutes to recede.

S: Nutmeg and cloves. Wheat bread. Sweet with a tangy spiciness.

T: Malty and sweet with a tropical melon and mango. Mushroom and decaying pine adds a funky twang rounding out the sweetness. Long greasy and old bruised banana flavor lingers long on the palate with a little white pepper. Mild oakiness and definitely a note of peat moss through the finish.

F: Big rich flavors rounded out by an extremely clear feel. I love the light body and the carbonation finishes nice and clean with only a small residual sugary feeling.

O: Quite nice. I like the yeastiness and the spice is nice, albeit maybe a little on the strong side. And the sweetness finishes a bit strong for me. But I'm just being overly critical, it's tasty and rich but might be better in my opinion if it were toned down just a scosche. Maybe 9.5%.

This is a very enjoyable brew - fairly "in your face", sweet, lots of citrus and fruit esters (I'm thinking pineapple and pear?), some coriander spice... and its 10% ABV is hidden very well in its sweetness. In fact, the sweetness gives it a fairly mead-like character. It's almost too sweet, but I think sweetness and fruitiness are desirable characteristics of good Tripels.

The color is a nice orangey-honey. Not much hop character, which I like (I'm definitely NOT an IPA guy), and very good smooth mouthfeel. The head is rich and creamy, lingers for a few moments, and clings nicely to the glass as it dissipates.

After getting halfway through the bottle, I am not tasting, but definitely FEELING, the alcohol's effects... in a GOOD way. A nice, light, smooth, and quite satisfying buzz. Probably good that I only have this one bottle, or I'd be on the floor tonight!

I will be buying this one again. It's the most enjoyable brew I've ever tasted from BBC. TWO thumbs up!

Coppery gold mostly clear liquid that starts out with a frothy white head which fades after a few minutes. The smell is quite fruity most of that citrus with some yeast and other esters in there as well. I'm also getting some slight bready malt but really no indications of hops or the alcohol which makes up a good portion of this. The taste is very peppery, spicy and citrusy just what I'd expect to find in a tripel. I'd say that this beer is a bit sweeter and maybe more fruity than some other good examples of the style. The alcohol flavors are pretty well hidden but a nice warming character definitely starts to make itself known especially as the beer warms. A surprisingly tasty tripel I'm glad I gave it a try and would would recommend it.

Near perfection for a Tripel (my favorite style of beer). I was shocked to discover Sam Adams even out-classed St Bernardus Tripel. This is truly as close as a Tripel can get to perfect for me.

Awesome! Best beer I have had by Sam Adams. I could only obtain it from the brewery in boston. Well worth packing it in luggage to get it back to chicago. Fantastic Belgian yeast flavors and a kickin abv.

This one pours a nicely ruby tinted rich golden color that a nice off white rich head that is long lived, settles slow and leaves good lacing down the glass.

The nose is fruity and pleasant with spiced notes that remind me a tad of all spice, there are nice bread tones and some alcohol. A mild but very pleasant nose here.

The taste is exceptional and definitely fruity, but not overly sweet. The flavor is a nicely done malt with woody notes that has a mild hopped experience that balances nicely with a complex array woody malts and spices.

The mouthfeel is silky and rick as a Belgian style should be, just right for this style.

Overall this is an exceptional offering from Samuel Adams and a real treat. This one is one of the best in their entire line up. I highly recommend trying this one.

A nice tripel that so far stands out in my experience with the barrel room collection. Fruity and spicy with a nice color. . Good flavor comes through though as the beer warms I noticed it seems to get a little sweeter, which I don't care for in this style.

Pours a gold, clear colour. Head is overly generous in the pour but good integrity, small off-white bubbly foam.

Smells tart, fairly funky. Belgian phenols with citric twang, slight soapy character, some barnyard. Bit stale as well, could use a bit more fresh tartness. Nice, though.

Taste is a lot sweeter than expected. Notes of vanilla and nutmeg upfront, gets caramel toffee midway, before finish is slightly boozey with a touch of honey and cherry medicine. Some orange citrus and Earl Grey notes. Definitely missing that slight Belgian edge promised on the nose.

Smooth, foamy, maybe a touch on the thin side but really very decent. Not enough flavours I really like, although the balance overall is fairly decent.

Deep orange body, light haze and tons of carbonation. On pour, a huge off-white head presents itself but after awhile fades to a slim ring. Light lacing and legs.

Quite zesty! Light maltiness with a pleasant earthy and spiced hop note. Peppery. A citrus sweetness is present and white grape juice. Bubblegum and a hint of clove.

Wow - expectations surpassed! Everything the nose sets you up for is present and there is nothing subtle about any of it. Beautiful spice with spot on pepper, clove and a hint of coriander and perhaps a bit of lavender. Although a bit out of style, a nice bubblegum and pear character rounds out the taste. With an ABV of 10%, this beer blows me away! I can detect literally no alcohol at all, it is masked beautifully - however, half way through the bottle... I can definitely feel it!

Light to medium body and gobs of carbonation. Not exactly smooth, but it works well for this. A mild dry finish and not lingering aftertaste.

To date, this is easily the best beer I've had from the Boston Beer Co! What makes it so impressive is its incredible balance, well masked alcohol profile, and complex hit to the taste buds. Next time you see this, don't shy away from this due to the fact that it is a Samuel Adams - it's a brilliant beer that must be experienced!

The beer pours a decent amount of white and bubbly head that dissipates very quickly. The beer itself is a clear dark copper that looks very nice but does not quite seem to match the style. The beer leaves some lacing on the glass. The beer has a very fruity and herbal smell. The fruit smell is very tropical with hints of lime and bits of banana and strawberry. There also bready yeast notes. The beer taste is similar to the smell. The same tropical fruit notes such as lime, banana, and strawberry mixed with bready yeast. The taste also has a slight hint of alcohol. The mouthfeel has biting carbonation and smooth feel. Overall, a decent beer.

Poured from bottle into a chalice glass

Appearance – The beer pours a deep golden-amber color with a huge white colored foamy head. Tons of tiny carbonation bubbles are seen streaming up through the brew, creating that wonderful head on the brew. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is huge of a yeasty smell mixed with a nice biscuit malt aroma. Along with these smells are lots of fruit aromas. A slightly sour lemon is one of the greatest, but is complemented nicely by some pear, apple and peach. Some sweet candied sugar and a good deal of a grassy smell along with a light funk and some spice of clove and coriander are there as well, producing a very nice and robust triple aroma.

Taste – The taste begins with a somewhat bready flavor mixed with a good level of candied sugar and some lighter fruit sweetness. The fruit flavors consist of the fruits that were in the nose, with these growing stronger and stronger as the taste advances, heightening the overall sweetness of the taste to the end. Along with these flavors there is also some spice flavors and a yeasty taste which start out stronger but with them losing strength as the flavor moves on. The brew hides the 10 % abv. very well with only a light hint of booziness coming at the end of the taste. With the fruit growing rather strong at the end, it is nicely balanced by the arrival of a light oaky, hay-like, and grassy flavor, with the overall combination of flavors left on the tongue at the end leaving a nice somewhat fruity sweet, but very easy drinking triple flavor.

Mouthfeel – The body of the is on the average side for a 10 % abv., but rather heavy for a Belgian triple. The carbonation, as the look would have suggested was higher, but was again rather average for a triple. The carbonation was very appropriate for the style with the tiny carbonation bubbles nicely matching the yeasty and fruity flavors of the brew. And while the body was slightly thicker for a triple, it actually worked quite well for the beer as it nicely matched the mix of light grassy, oak, and hay to the sweet flavors well.

Overall – A rather thicker and fruity triple. Certainly not a bad brew to try and one I think most would enjoy.

Poured from the corked bottle into a Duvel glass. 6/1

Pours pale gold, relatively dark, with thick heavy white foam. Nose is floral, pepper. Belgian strains. Taste opens with a sweet juicy fruit (tropical tasting) followed by a slow hop burn. Little sweetness sits on the end. Boozy, but very tasty. Really good.

750 ml cork and caged bottle poured into a Bruery tulip.
10% ABV, "Enjoy this ale now or age it to further develop unique flavors."

A - Deep golden amber in color, this dark tripel shows off it's steady carbonation through the clarity of the beer nicely. Its tall and sparkly ivory foam has superb retention, shrouding the glass in lacing as it diminishes.

S - Sweet lemon peel and peach pit give the nose a fruity complexity that leads into white grape and clear rock sugar before slightly biscuity malts create a firm base. New World's complexity runs much deeper though, as clove and traces of bubble gum show off the intricate yeast while virgin oak hints at the time in barrels.

T - Rock candi sugar and crystal malt splash the tongue with initial sweetness that's closely followed by a drier, more biscuity maltiness. Belgian yeast quickly takes over however, sprinkling a bit of white pepper and coriander on the tongue followed by bubble gum and delicate fruit complexities that mirror the aroma.

M - Incredibly smooth even with a prickle of carbonation, this high gravity tripel has a hint of warming alcohol on the finish but certainly not its elevated 10%. Sweetness is calmed by dryness on the finish for a wonderful drinking experience.

O - Samuel Adams New World tripel is a beer to behold; it's rare to come across a state-side Belgian style tripel that can hang with the classics but, this does it and more. Its aromatic and complex aroma leads right into the delicious flavor, finishing out with incredible smoothness that begs to be sipped time and time again. Truly a classic.

No bottle date. I've had this for at least 2 years, probably close to 2.5. Orange color with a cloudy haze. 1 finger white head that dissipated quickly. Lots in the aroma: sour, fruity, peppery, some booze. Taste up front is plums & estery yeast flavors. There's also a sourness that's a little puckering. Toward the back I get some booze (a little medicinal), and in the finish more yeast. There's a lot of sweetness as it warms, including some tropical fruit flavors as suggested by the brewer. Mouthfeel is light-medium. Overall I enjoy a good belgian beer and this is a decent representation of the style. But it's really sweet, cloyingly so, and tough to get through a whole 750ml bottle.

EDIT: I think this beer would really shine if the sweetness was balanced with sourness. Also the oak-aging needs to be ramped up, it was detectable only after suggestion.

Poured a caramel, orange, semi-clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of pillowy, white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom. Good amount of foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Good, thick retention on the top.

Smelled wet Belgian spices, tropical notes, cloves, banana, pineapple, mango, kiwi, honey and faint bubblegum.

Tasted sugar sweet oak, vanilla, tropical notes, pineapple, kiwi, mango, honey, cloves, slight bubblegum and tasty Belgian spices.

Light body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Longer finish.

Just a really good tripel. I would have it again for sure.

Cork-topped bottle of some ridiculous shape that looked like it was rejected from the cooperage. 750mL, apparently. Man, that cork is seriously in there. And there it goes, off the ceiling. Served in a chalice this beer is orange amber in color and forms a nice, solid, foamy off-white head. Appropriately fruity Belgian tripel aroma. Pear, tropical fruit.

Once in the mouth the flavor is a little bit of a let down compared to that aroma. Yeah, it's fruit, but there's also a dominant bitterness, and it betrays its 10% ABV. Which is not to say this isn't a fine tripel. It's especially good considering it comes from a macrobrewery. It hits all the right notes of tropical fruit, sweet candy/caramel flavors, and it has the best yeast flavors I've ever had in such a large scale brew. But Tripel is a style with some serious competition, and this just isn't anywhere close to the top in that regard. Good thing for the Boston Beer Co., beer isn't a competition.
