This was my first taste of the Barrel Room Collection. Though I am not a big Belgian man, this was pretty good. initially when I saw the red ale label I immediately thought it would be somewhat like an Irish Red ale. Obviously I was wrong.
The appearance was a brown/reddish color that was cloudy. There was some slight sediment in the glass. The beer had a moderate amount of carbonation but the head was fizzing pretty well. There was a small amount of lacing around the glass.
The smell was sour right off the bat. Maybe a little too sour for my liking. There was a strong fruity smell. It also had a somewhat of a champagne like smell. It reminded me of a lambic.
The taste was pretty strong. It didn't smell like a 9% beer to me but it sure tasted like one (perhaps the heavy tart flavor?). This was heightened by the sour taste. Apple and oak notes were pretty apparent to me.
The body was a little lacking. But not bad. It's a pretty drinkable beer. Again, not a huge fan of sour type beers but this one was definitely worth the price.

Well, sat on this too long...Or did I?
Pretty amber to deep brown in hue. Sandy head. Some retention, light lacing.
Fruit forward on the nose, tart cherries as advertised, some barrel char as well. Also a hint of leather.
Taste definitely goes toward a red wine barrel aging.
Not bad. But after reading a few comments here, I'm thinking the aging helped.

Poured into a tulip, the appearance was a stiff burnt dark red color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that quickly slid off in a semi-fizzy sort of way. No lace.
The aroma had some cherry skin and flesh, some dried grass, light acidic citrus pulp, burnt bread, some vinegar, green apples and a tart to almost sour glossing of orange/lemon rind.
The flavor was mildly sour to present the acidic level with some lemon and orange-like tartness, light bitterness. Sour to tart apple and cherry flesh to acidic sort of aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was medium bodied with a decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt appropriate. Finish was quick with some acidic fizz.
Overall, well, it's a decent attempt at an American Wild ale. The "pucker" factor is actually there, though I didn't mention in the mouthfeel portion of this review.

A 1pt 9.4 fl oz bottle with a best before date of 1st October 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A dark ruby reddish brown colour with a big three finger light tanned head that had decent retention and left only sparse lacing.
Aroma: Fruity tart cherry, red berries, grape, plum, caramel and a touch of vinegar.
Taste: Much less fruit than the aroma, sour, tart, cherry, plum, oak, alcohol and vinegar.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and highly (overly) carbonated.
Overall: Taste was decent but I think its fruitiness was definitely affected by the harshness of the carbonation, which I felt mellowed it, when compared to the aroma. For me, the problem all stemmed from the harshness of the carbonation when swallowing, which I thought was way more than even any soda that I’ve drank before. If toned down a bit, I think that I would have enjoyed it a lot more.

There is no fruit notes in this. Pucker is average. Pours nice but that's as far as it goes. Good malt and oak taste finished with a moderate pucker. Very disappointing for a Flemish. Sam Adams should stick to ales. Save your $.
